Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Hockinson, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
If they want to really sell a roof, their tactics should be a little bit different. We will definitely not be buying anything through Mr. Glenn.
Dear Interlock Industries, We knew that someday we would need a new roof. We had been considering various roofing materials as we have a concern about a plaguing issue of a moss growth problem as a result of fir needle build up. We had to go on the our roof at least one to two times and sometimes more often a month to blow off the roof as the needles would collect everywhere and build up in the roof valleys; plus the additional time necessary to remove the moss. We spent way too much time on the roof. We happened to see the Interlock aluminum roof system and after speaking with staff and our friends and doing some research, we made the decision to have your roof system installed this past fall. We want to let you know that we are happy with the product as well as the style we selected. We had the deep charcoal grey " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate profile installed on our traditional style home. It looks great! Many of the neighbors have commented on how nice it looks. They first thought it would be too commercial looking, but once they saw the end product they were impressed. All the staff from Robin at the Clark County Fair exhibitors’ booth, Mike Rasmussen, Divisional Sales Manager, as well the roof installers were very professional and good in explaining the product, what was involved in the installation, as well as being responsive and open to addressing our questions, comments and concerns. Once the product was ready to be delivered the installation date was confirmed. The installers arrived early on that date and started in on the job. They were diligent on the installation. They did clean up at the end of each day. They were open and encouraged questions and any comments we had. If there was something we noticed that was not quite right they would check and correct. They were as concerned as we were about a quality job done right. The roof does well as the valleys do not collect needles anymore. The only concern/complaint is that the needles do get caught in the interlock sections particularly when it is raining and windy making it difficult to remove them. We have had a lot of rain since the roof was installed so we have not had a chance to really remove the needles. Hopefully once the roof and needles dry out; it will be easier to remove them. But it does appear that we will not have to go on the roof nearly as much as in the past.
It was a very positive experience. I certainly would recommend people to at least talk to them. They have a product that makes sense, particularly for younger families.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Hockinson
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Hockinson, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Hockinson.
Will a metal roof handle Hockinson's snow and ice buildup?
Yes—aluminum's light weight and smooth surface actually shed snow better than asphalt. Hockinson sees about 48 cm of snow annually and roughly 36 freeze-thaw cycles per year, conditions that cause ice dams and moss growth on traditional roofs. Metal panels won't cup or warp through those temperature swings, and the four-way interlocking seams are fully sealed against meltwater. You can add snow guards if you prefer controlled release, but the roof itself handles the load without strain.
Why doesn't aluminum rust in wet Pacific Northwest climates?
Aluminum contains no iron—it physically cannot rust. Instead, it forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal underneath. When scratched, that oxide reforms automatically. Hockinson's 1468 mm of annual rainfall and moisture-heavy air would corrode steel roofs within years, but our 3105-H24 aluminum alloy plus the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating on both panel sides means your roof stays sound through decades of wet winters. That dual-sided coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading.
Can a metal roof stand up to Hockinson wind gusts?
Absolutely. Local wind gusts reach 116 km/h; the four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. That interlocking system means each panel locks mechanically to its neighbors in all four directions—no fasteners exposed to wind lift, no gaps where gusts can peel edges up. You get the same rock-solid performance whether you're near the Columbia River corridor or in the valley.
Does a metal roof get damaged by hail, and can I save on insurance?
Metal roofs resist hail exceptionally well. Interlock panels hold a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. In Hockinson's climate, that's practical peace of mind. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer premium discounts on metal roofs compared to asphalt, which dents and loses granules under impact. Check with your carrier—savings often offset part of your installation cost.
How long does an Interlock metal roof last, and what's the warranty coverage?
The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner—meaning you never face depreciation. It covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance for as long as you own the home. If you sell, the next owner gets 50 years of transferable coverage from completion. That's a fundamental shift from asphalt, which degrades predictably and rarely lasts past 20 years. In Hockinson's 36 annual freeze-thaw cycles, that stability is real.
Will a metal roof cut my cooling costs in summer?
Yes, especially if you choose an energy-efficient color. Interlock's Aged Copper Penny profile achieves up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance and 0.84 emissivity, rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council. While Hockinson gets about 2957 sunshine hours annually—less than sunbelt climates—a reflective metal roof still bounces heat that asphalt absorbs, lowering air-conditioning load on hot days. The difference compounds over decades and improves your home's thermal envelope year-round.
Can my Hockinson house handle a metal roof, or do I need expensive reinforcement?
No reinforcement needed. The Cedar Shingle profile weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft, the Shake about 0.58, and even the Mediterranean Tile—which replicates heavy clay or concrete—comes in at roughly 0.59 lb/sq ft, about 96% lighter than the real thing. Your existing roof structure already supports traditional roofing; metal typically installs right over it. That weight advantage means faster installation, lower labor costs, and the ability to upgrade without structural work. It's one of the biggest practical wins in an older home.
What maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Metal requires virtually none. Asphalt shingles need granule replacement, moss treatment, and gutter clearing after every heavy rain—Hockinson's 1468 mm annually makes that constant work. Wood shakes crack, split, and invite rot in the freeze-thaw cycle. Aluminum doesn't cup, rot, split, or require coating reapplication. Rinse debris off twice a year if you like; the roof itself stays intact. The Alunar coating handles chalking and fading for 30 years, and CALGreen verification means minimal upkeep to maintain its performance.
Is a metal roof worth the higher upfront cost in Hockinson?
Metal roofing costs more upfront than asphalt—typically 2-3 times the price—but it's the last roof you buy. Asphalt fails in 15-20 years; you then pay again for removal, disposal, and reinstallation. Over 50 years, the total cost of multiple asphalt replacements often exceeds a single metal roof. Add the Guardian Warranty (lifetime, non-prorated), transferable 50-year coverage for the next owner, no maintenance expenses, hail and wind resistance, and insurance potential savings, and the math tilts decisively toward metal. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation.
How long does installation take, and can you install over my existing roof?
Yes, we install over existing roofs in most cases—no tearoff, no landfill hauling, faster timeline. Installation typically takes 2-5 days depending on roof size and complexity. Because Interlock panels are so lightweight (0.41-0.59 lb/sq ft), structural loads aren't a concern. We remove only the old ridge cap and flashing, install new underlayment and panels, then flash and seal everything per ICC-ES ESR-1790 code. That means minimal disruption, lower labor hours, and you avoid disposal costs. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served this region since 1997—we know Hockinson's weather patterns and installation best practices.
