Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Fern Prairie, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
We have had our roof for over 5 years and no problems whatsoever. Best roof ever. I highly recommend this company and metal roofs for everyone.
Communication was unacceptable. Day 1 I was told the crew would show up at 9 am. When they didn't arrive by 11 am, I called the scheduler to find out if the work was going to start. I had not been told the crew was driving down from Seattle. Once Damon Isbell and National Sales Manager Michael Rasmussen got by first installment payment, I never heard from them again - NEVER. Even when I sent them pictures of the sloppy work that was done and missing vents in my roof, they did not contact me. The product looks very good, but expensive. Make the salesman stop at the project while it is in progress and again once it is all over. Communication is Key and you need to improve.
They could improve on not starting the roof and not having all the materials. I have nothing against the crew because our roof is the way it is. They should have sent a crew out that knew the material. It was a new crew for Interlock.
They didn't deliver what they said they were going to deliver. We are in court litigation right now. They got to a point and I noticed they were putting dents everywhere. They had contractors doing it. I tried to stop them, and they said they would come back and repair the dented tiles. They got done and wanted their money and didn't come back and do what they said they would do. It's not the product they sold us. They had a good sales pitch, but we will not be able to walk on the roof again. I would suggest a better product and more qualified installers.
We love the roof ,the 50year garente is great the peace of mind of the material used is great . The price was hard to swallow but I love the look and peace of mind that we have a worry free roof is great.my only issues were the waiting time , not knowing when the job would start and the lack of communication with the work crew.but overall I'm happy. Sell less roofing jobs so you can keep to your commitment of time frame. Need better communication with worker when problems arise, communication with worker that don't speak English causes problems and worries for homeowner. I wasn't happy about the collection department badgering us about where the payments were after explaining numerous times. Not our fault the banking and mail system is so slow
Their scheduling could improve, and the clean-up afterwards could have been better.
We decided not to go with them because the product is too expensive for our age.
We really like the product, but we wish the communication was better. It's just frustrating because it was a very expensive roof. The sales pitch, I did not like or appreciate the sales pitch. It was either commit to it now, or the price goes up. We asked them to wait to build the tiles until we sold the house, but they didn't and we were forced to do something financially we didn't want to do. They could've made sure we were on the same page. I just want to know when they are going to respond to our request. Some of the tiles look like they have shifted and I want to know when they will send someone out to fix it.
Overall the Installation Manager was great. The salesman was not professional at all. The initial sales process did not provide a great impression. The sales person was cocky and we didn't get the deal we wanted.
Once the installation started, it was done quickly and professionally and I love the result.Getting the team out here was another matter entirely. Apparenlty, their crews were overloaded, but I was scheduled 3 separate times to begin the project and, 3 times, no one showed up.....no phone call...really no nothing. I had to call Interlock a couple of times to get things shaken loose. Like I said, I understand when the crews are tied up and that's fine. But, I purposely cleared my schedule for the 3 days necessary to complete the install and 3 times was left high and dry.
Well, we could have gotten a phone call stating they weren't going to be there the day we agreed on. They gave us a second date and they were also not there for that one either, the third date they finally showed. A little more communication as far as letting people know if you can't make the original date.
Based upon what we have learned about the product, we are definitely ready to test it over time. We would however - and have - told friends about our new roof and its materials. Communication.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Fern Prairie
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Fern Prairie, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Fern Prairie.
Will a metal roof handle Fern Prairie's snow and ice buildup?
Yes—aluminum's smooth, hard surface actually sheds snow and ice better than asphalt, reducing the load on your structure. Fern Prairie gets about 48 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 36 freeze-thaw cycles per year, which is exactly where metal roofs outperform. The four-way interlocking panels stay sealed even when snow thaws and refreezes, and you can add snow guards if you want to control slides. Unlike wood shake, aluminum won't absorb meltwater or rot when trapped ice sits on it.
Does heavy rain leak through a metal roof?
No. Fern Prairie receives about 1468 mm of rain annually, and Interlock's four-way interlocking panels shed water completely—the overlap design is the same engineering used on standing seam commercial roofs. When installed to spec by a trained installer over a solid deck with underlayment, water simply runs off. The aluminum itself cannot rust or corrode from exposure, so even if water touches the substrate, the panels won't degrade. That's a key difference from steel roofing, which will rust if the coating is breached.
Are metal roofs safe in Fern Prairie's wind gusts?
Absolutely. Clark County gusts reach about 116 km/h, and Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking design means each panel is mechanically locked on all sides—wind doesn't lift individual shingles the way it does asphalt. Combined with proper fastening into solid deck, you get a roof system rather than loose shingles, which is why the warranty covers wind uplift. For Fern Prairie's coastal-influenced weather, that's substantial protection.
Why doesn't an aluminum metal roof rust like steel?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element iron oxidizes into rust, and aluminum simply cannot. Instead, aluminum develops a thin, invisible oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, continuously protecting the metal underneath. Fern Prairie's 1468 mm annual rainfall means your roof is wet frequently; on a steel roof, scratches in the coating would eventually rust through. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) with a 30-year-warranted Alunar PVDF coating on both sides, so even in wet climates, the underlying metal is corrosion-proof.
Do I need to reinforce my house for a metal roof?
No. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, and even the heaviest Shake profile installs at only 0.58 lb per square foot—roughly one-tenth the weight of real tile. Most homes can support a metal roof retrofit directly over existing asphalt without any structural work. This matters in Fern Prairie, where you could otherwise spend thousands on reinforcement that metal roofing simply eliminates. The aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is strong enough to handle 48 cm of snow load and 116 km/h gusts without adding structural stress.
Will my homeowner's insurance cover hail damage to a metal roof?
Metal roofing often qualifies for insurance discounts because it's Class 4 impact-rated—the highest UL 2218 rating available. Interlock panels are warranted to withstand perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches, which is more severe than typical hail in the Pacific Northwest. Ask your insurer whether they recognize this rating; many offer rate reductions for Class 4 roofs because they're proven to resist damage. With Fern Prairie's occasional spring hail, that combination of durability plus potential insurance savings is worth checking into before you commit to any roof.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost versus asphalt shingles?
Over the life of the roof, metal typically costs less. Asphalt shingles in Fern Prairie's freeze-thaw climate (36 cycles per year) usually last 15–20 years before curling, cracking, and leaking. You then tear off and landfill the old roof—multiple times in a homeowner's lifetime. Interlock comes with a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner and a 50-year transferable term for the next owner. No tear-off, no landfill cycle, and one installation instead of three. Factor in zero rust risk, minimal maintenance, and potential insurance discounts, and the per-year cost often favors metal. Current promotions include no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation.
What warranty comes with an Interlock metal roof?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's one-time transferable, meaning the next owner receives 50 years of coverage from completion date. The Alunar PVDF coating is separately warranted for 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214/D2244 measured), and wind resistance is warranted to 120 mph. For a Fern Prairie homeowner planning to stay long-term or thinking about resale value, non-prorated coverage is significantly stronger than typical shingle warranties, which decline in year two.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?
Minimal. Unlike asphalt (which becomes brittle in freeze-thaw cycles like Fern Prairie's 36 annual transitions), wood shake (which rots when wet and catches debris), or tile (which cracks and leaks), aluminum requires no sealing, no fungicide, no replacement of individual pieces. Rinse debris twice yearly if leaves accumulate; that's it. The four-way interlocking panels stay sealed, the Alunar coating resists weathering for 30 years, and aluminum never needs repair from moisture damage. Over a 50-year ownership span in a wet climate (1468 mm rain annually), you'll spend a fraction of what asphalt or wood requires. CALGreen verification confirms reduced-maintenance performance.
Can a metal roof be installed over my existing asphalt shingles?
Yes, and it saves money. Interlock installs directly over existing asphalt in most cases—no tear-off labor, no disposal costs, no weeks of disruption. The lightweight aluminum (Shake at 0.58 lb/sq ft) doesn't strain the existing structure, and the solid deck underneath provides the foundation for a watertight install. Your local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., has served Clark County since 1997 and manages over-the-shingle installations routinely. Installation typically takes days rather than weeks, and you avoid the environmental cost of sending tons of old shingles to the landfill. The roof is ready to shed Fern Prairie's 1468 mm annual rainfall immediately.
