Review: February 3, 2016

Dear Interlock Industries, We knew that someday we would need a new roof. We had been considering various roofing materials as we have a concern about a plaguing issue of a moss growth problem as a result of fir needle build up. We had to go on the our roof at least one to two times and sometimes more often a month to blow off the roof as the needles would collect everywhere and build up in the roof valleys; plus the additional time necessary to remove the moss. We spent way too much time on the roof. We happened to see the Interlock aluminum roof system and after speaking with staff and our friends and doing some research, we made the decision to have your roof system installed this past fall. We want to let you know that we are happy with the product as well as the style we selected. We had the deep charcoal grey " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate profile installed on our traditional style home. It looks great! Many of the neighbors have commented on how nice it looks. They first thought it would be too commercial looking, but once they saw the end product they were impressed. All the staff from Robin at the Clark County Fair exhibitors’ booth, Mike Rasmussen, Divisional Sales Manager, as well the roof installers were very professional and good in explaining the product, what was involved in the installation, as well as being responsive and open to addressing our questions, comments and concerns. Once the product was ready to be delivered the installation date was confirmed. The installers arrived early on that date and started in on the job. They were diligent on the installation. They did clean up at the end of each day. They were open and encouraged questions and any comments we had. If there was something we noticed that was not quite right they would check and correct. They were as concerned as we were about a quality job done right. The roof does well as the valleys do not collect needles anymore. The only concern/complaint is that the needles do get caught in the interlock sections particularly when it is raining and windy making it difficult to remove them. We have had a lot of rain since the roof was installed so we have not had a chance to really remove the needles. Hopefully once the roof and needles dry out; it will be easier to remove them. But it does appear that we will not have to go on the roof nearly as much as in the past.

I continue to be pleased and happy with my Interlock metal roof after 10 years! People new to the neighborhood ask about it and are amazed to learn it's metal and not asphalt.

Review: February 7, 2025

Definitely worth the wait. We got our estimate and signed on the dotted line in late August, then got our new roof in mid-November. I was a little concerned because we were now into the "rainy" season. I needn't have been. From start to finish the job was done professionally, efficiently, and they even coordinated with the satellite dish person who relocated our dish for us. I actually contacted Interlock and asked for a yard sign to be placed out front because I wanted all my neighbors to know about our beautiful new roof. First rate and I have recommended them to others and will continue to do so.

The Installers were professional, efficient and friendly. There was virtually no debris left in the garden or anywhere. We love our new roof and recommend Interlock to anyone looking for a new roof that will last a long time.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Mill Plain

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Mill Plain, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Mill Plain.

How does a metal roof handle Mill Plain's snow and ice buildup?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt shingles because aluminum's smooth surface prevents the adhesion that traps moisture. With about 48 cm of snow per year and roughly 36 freeze-thaw cycles, your roof faces constant expansion and contraction; aluminum's flexibility prevents the cracking and curling that degrades asphalt over time. Optional snow guards can be installed if you want to manage snow release. The four-way interlocking panel design (ESR-1790 rated) keeps water sealed out during the region's 1468 mm of annual rainfall and melt cycles.

Will a metal roof rust in the Pacific Northwest's wet climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; instead, it develops a self-healing oxide layer that actually protects the underlying metal when scratched. Steel roofs rust, but Interlock uses 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 roofing-grade aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), which is fundamentally corrosion-resistant. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of every panel—extra protection against the region's 2957 annual sunshine hours and damp conditions. This dual-coating approach was engineered for installations from coastal salt-air homes to extreme environments, ensuring longevity across Mill Plain's variable 1468 mm rainfall and freeze-thaw cycles.

Can my existing roof structure support a metal roof, or do I need reinforcement?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's aluminum panels are extraordinarily lightweight—the Mediterranean Tile profile installs at about 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most homes can support this weight without any modifications, and the roof typically installs directly over your existing asphalt shingles, saving the expense and landfill impact of a tear-off. Mill Plain's typical wind gusts of 116 km/h create downward pressure on any roof; the lightweight aluminum actually allows for better wind performance because less structural mass means less wind-induced stress on fasteners and seams.

How does metal roofing perform in Mill Plain's gusty conditions?

Interlock metal roofs are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h), well above the region's recorded gusts of 116 km/h. The four-way interlocking panel system distributes wind load across multiple connection points instead of relying on a single row of fasteners, so local wind events pose no threat to a properly installed roof. With about 15 km/h average daily-max winds and frequent gusts, the interlocking design means you won't experience panel lift, flutter, or separation. Installation to specification ensures that high-wind warranty coverage applies to your home.

What's the hail rating on Interlock roofing, and could it lower my insurance?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 rating can qualify homeowners for insurance discounts in some regions because it demonstrates superior impact resistance. Mill Plain experiences the freeze-thaw cycles and moisture swings typical of the Pacific Northwest, but hail damage is less frequent here than in other parts of the country. The Class 4 durability means your roof handles not just hail but also the impact of debris during the 116 km/h wind gusts common to the area, giving insurers confidence in the roof's longevity and reducing claim risk.

Will an Interlock metal roof help reduce my heating and cooling costs?

energy-efficient colors in the Interlock line offer thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55, reflecting heat that asphalt absorbs. In Mill Plain's 2957 annual sunshine hours, this reflectance reduces peak roof temperature and lowers cooling demand during the warmer months. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms performance. Across the region's average 11.5°C mean temperature and 48 cm of snow, a reflective metal roof minimizes the thermal cycling that stresses asphalt shingles and breaks down their binders. Over a 50-year lifespan, the cumulative energy savings—combined with no need for roof replacement—add up significantly.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

A metal roof is the last roof you'll buy. Asphalt shingles degrade under Mill Plain's 1468 mm annual rainfall and 36 freeze-thaw cycles, typically lasting 15-20 years; Interlock's Guardian Warranty offers a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty to the original owner and remains transferable for 50 years to the next owner. That means one installation replaces 2-3 asphalt roofs over a 50-year period, eliminating repeated labor costs, tear-off fees, and landfill disposal. The current promotion—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—makes the transition more affordable. Over a home's ownership lifetime, the math strongly favors a single, durable metal roof.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Metal roofs require virtually no maintenance beyond occasional debris removal—gutters stay cleaner than under asphalt because aluminum doesn't shed granules. Asphalt shingles degrade under Mill Plain's intense freeze-thaw cycles (about 36 per year) and must be inspected annually; wood shakes split and rot with moisture and require periodic treatment. Interlock aluminum resists splitting, cracking, curling, and rotting—covered by the Guardian Warranty—and the 30-year Alunar coating warranty (ASTM D4214 / D2244 measured) means no fading or chalking from the region's 2957 sunshine hours. The metal won't buckle or lift during the 116 km/h gusts that plague asphalt installations, so you avoid costly repairs.

What profile options does Interlock offer in Mill Plain?

Interlock offers five distinct profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, and Standing Seam. Each uses the same four-way interlocking aluminum technology (ESR-1790 certified, UL 2218 Class 4 rated) and the same 70% PVDF dual-sided Alunar coating, so performance is identical across all styles. Choose Slate or Cedar Shingle for a traditional Pacific Northwest aesthetic; Shake and Mediterranean Tile for architectural character without the weight (Tile is 96% lighter than concrete or clay); Standing Seam for a sleek, modern look. All profiles are manufactured to the same exacting roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy standard (ASTM B209) and perform identically in Mill Plain's 1468 mm rainfall and 116 km/h wind gusts.

Who installs Interlock roofing in Mill Plain, Washington?

Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997 and installs throughout Clark County and beyond. The company manufactures Interlock panels in Delta, BC, just north of the border, and has deployed the same four-way interlocking technology from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station—meaning local installers understand how to optimize performance in Mill Plain's specific climate: 1468 mm annual rainfall, 48 cm snow, 36 freeze-thaw days, and gusts to 116 km/h. They're currently offering no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. Contact them directly to schedule a consultation and confirm your home's eligibility for the Guardian Warranty.
