Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Hastings-Sunrise, British Columbia
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Many years ago, we had our roof installed by Interlock Roofing Company, which came with a lifetime warranty. The roof served us well, but over the last couple of years the paint began to peel and it became quite unsightly. We contacted Interlock to request a replacement. I have to admit, it took some time and a few follow-up emails and phone calls, but eventually our case was passed to Todd — and thanks to him, our problem was fully resolved.Todd arranged for the best installer, Danny, to handle our roof, and I don’t have enough words to describe how exceptional he is. Not only is Danny extremely knowledgeable and professional, but he is also a true perfectionist who pays attention to every detail. Our roof looks beautiful again thanks to both Todd and Danny. We truly appreciate their dedication and the quality of their work.
We have already taken several positive comments from friends and neighbours and have recommended Interlock. Just the schedule. Things could have been done differently to shorten the project time. It was very disruptive to have scaffolding around the house for over 2 months Would have rated a full 5 if not for the time it took and the resulting secondary damage. We were treated fairly by Interlock and we are very pleased with our roof. Neighbours like it too
This was a replacement roof for a torch on roof. It also included the installation of solar cell panels. I did not realize how slippery the interlock roofing is when wet. Solar panels require cleaning periodically. I am not sure that this was the best choice for a solar installation. I would not recommend for a Solar installation but would for a non solar roof. This was a joint project involving Ready Solar and Interlock. Ready Solar had to lay out where the mounting pads and junction boxes would be located and supply hardware to the roofer for installation as the roof was going on. This coordination status could have been communicated to me as I was left unsure as to if it was occurring. Facia should have been same guage as cap. I had the ridge vents option and would have liked to see one or two safety hooks installed for fall protection. There were billing adjustments that Todd knew about but the bill came with no adjustments. I had to refute the original bill and negotiate the adjustments. This is a little shoddy and should have been dealt with before a full price bill issued to me.
It is a great looking roof! They did great!
Installation inspection should happen before the crew leaves the site.
yes see above Generally a good job, product looks great and we are sure it will be a greta new roof
It was good. It took a long time from when we first got the information that they were going to do it but it's ok.
I was very happy with the salesman, project manager, and workers. They were very respectful and I was comfortable with having them around which is important to me. NONE
One month into the purchase of my first house, a surprise awaited following a refresh of my gutters – two words every homeowner dreads hearing…’roof replacement!‘ High anxiety. Having no experience or know-how, being a rookie homeowner, replacing the roof felt daunting and uncomfortable. Hearing only the industry horror stories of work done poorly, inadequately and haphazardly, I feared the worst. I immediately took to Google in search of companies and quotes. It did not begin well. The first company priced my job at 24k, and suggested they’d need to ‘refresh’ it in 8 years. The second company was priced more moderately and offered 10 year coverage, but came across pushy, wanting me to sign on the dotted line after the first conversation. I had to tell the operator twice in the same chat that no, I would not be sending an advance payment immediately and was not ready to let them begin work. Needless to say, a terrible start to the search, confirming my fears about the industry and pricing. The next day, back to the Google I went, this time in search of the highest-rated company I could find. ‘Interlock Roofing‘ appeared, along with reviews touting the company’s metal roofing product that was both durable and held considerable ‘curb appeal.’ More than that, the reviews spoke of the company’s professionalism, honesty, quality of work and timeliness (no small feat in an industry known for the exact opposite!). I sent an initial interest email, hoping the reviews were real and true! And my goodness…did they prove to be! From my thorough initial chat with Lynda to the revealing Powerpoint orientation meeting with Mike, to Todd’s quote process and honest job pricing sans showroom showdown, to the finishing roof touches with installer extraordinaire Mike, and then, finally, addition of snowguards with expert Tariq…Interlock’s team went above and beyond. Patient, more than they probably should have been with me, a rookie with many questions (plenty of them of the ‘stupid’ variety if I do say!) and always willing to explain things simple or difficult. The culture and integrity of Interlock’s team really shines through at each step, and removed any anxiety I had. I completed a major 6-month renovation at my home, and I can say with 100% certainty…Interlock was my favorite contractor of the entire process, inside or out. Final word about the quality of product, the metal roof. I have spent the days, weeks and months since the install touting the Interlock roof to neighbors, family and friends! The quality is off the charts, and the peace of mind it provides is best of all – 50-year warranty and no lost sleep over leaks, water damage or degradation over time. The cost difference? The quotes I received…the pricing was remarkably similar for such a tremendous gap in value! And the process was transparent, the team trustworthy start to finish. Living in Vancouver in our climate, this is the only choice for peace of mind. The final bonus? It looks absolutely beautiful at street level. So, from one rookie homeowner to another…I hope you choose and trust Interlock with your home! Lynda, Mike, Todd, Mike and Tariq…folks with integrity you want working on your home.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Hastings-Sunrise
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Hastings-Sunrise, British Columbia. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Hastings-Sunrise.
How does a metal roof handle Hastings-Sunrise's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Metal roofs shed snow more effectively than asphalt because aluminum's smooth surface and thermal properties prevent ice dams from forming—especially important with your area's average 152 cm of snow per year and about 37 freeze-thaw days annually. The four-way interlocking panels stay watertight through those temperature swings without the cracking or curling that plague traditional materials. Snow guards can be added if you want to manage drift on lower-pitched roofs, giving you full control over safety and aesthetics.
With nearly 2500 mm of rain yearly in Metro Vancouver, what makes a metal roof leak-proof?
The four-way interlocking aluminum panels overlap in all directions, creating a labyrinth that sheds water downward before it can penetrate—far more effective than overlapped shingles. Combined with a solid deck and underlayment (installed to ESR-1790 code), your roof handles Hastings-Sunrise's 2471 mm annual rainfall without pooling or seepage. We install over existing roofs, so you're adding a proven water barrier without tearing off a thing.
Why choose aluminum over steel roofing in a wet, salt-influenced climate like Metro Vancouver?
Aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched, so rust is impossible—you get bare material that weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Shingle profile but never corrodes like steel. In the coastal salt-air environment of Metro Vancouver, this matters: roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) simply cannot develop the rust staining or structural failure that requires steel roofs to be painted and maintained for life. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (both sides) adds 30 years of color-fade protection, but the aluminum underneath stays pristine.
Does my house need reinforcement to support a metal tile roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. The Interlock Mediterranean Tile profile weighs just 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs directly over your existing roof on the same framing. Most homes in Hastings-Sunrise can accommodate this with zero upgrades, saving you thousands in hidden costs. Steel tile roofs and concrete alternatives often require expensive structural work; aluminum lets you get the tile aesthetic without the engineering headache.
How well does a metal roof hold up to the wind gusts we get in Hastings-Sunrise?
The four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Your area averages 11 km/h winds with gusts to 95 km/h—well within the rated capacity. The overlapping lock system prevents individual panels from peeling or lifting, and the light weight (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means wind pressure is minimized. You get storm resilience without the brittleness of tile or the tear resistance issues of asphalt in sustained wind events.
What's the real lifespan of an Interlock metal roof, and what does the warranty actually cover?
The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you as the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. When you sell, the next owner gets a one-time transferable 50-year warranty from completion, adding resale appeal. With Alunar coating protection warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214), plus aluminum that simply cannot rust, you're buying your last roof. Most owners report 50+ years of service; the warranty reflects that confidence.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles over 30 years?
Asphalt requires replacement every 20–25 years; a metal roof installed today will likely outlast two or three asphalt roofs over your ownership. Factor in labor, tear-off disposal, and energy savings (energy-efficient colors reflect heat rather than absorb it like asphalt), and metal becomes the cheaper long-term choice. Our current promotion—interest-free payments for 3 months and savings of at least $2499—puts the entry cost within reach. You're not paying premium; you're eliminating the replacement cycle.
Can I get a Class A fire rating with a metal roof?
Yes. Interlock aluminum profiles are non-combustible and available with Class A fire classification—the highest rating available. Non-combustible materials meet strict fire codes (ICC-ES ESR-1790, 2025 reissue) and may reduce your insurance premiums. In a region with 2788 sunshine hours per year and frequent outdoor activity, Class A protection gives both safety assurance and potential cost savings on your policy. Check with your insurer about available credits.
How much upkeep does a metal roof really need?
Virtually none compared to asphalt or wood. Asphalt requires moss treatment, algae removal, and gutter cleaning every few years; wood shakes crack and split. Aluminum doesn't rot, doesn't split, won't support moss in Hastings-Sunrise's 2471 mm rainfall, and stays watertight without re-sealing. You rinse it occasionally (like any exterior) and inspect gutters—that's it. CALGreen verification confirms the maintenance advantage, making it the lowest-upkeep roofing option available.
Who installs Interlock metal roofs in Hastings-Sunrise, and how long have they been doing this?
Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd. serves Metro Vancouver from our Delta, BC manufacturing facility, where we've made these roofs since 1998. We've been installing in your region since 1983—that's over 40 years of hands-on experience with West Coast weather, salt-air environments, and local building codes. Our team knows the nuances of your 152 cm average snow, freeze-thaw cycles, and 95 km/h wind gusts. When you call, you're talking to the people who made the product and understand your neighborhood's specific needs.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Hastings-Sunrise’s climate?
Yes. Hastings-Sunrise averages about 152 cm of snow, 2471 mm of rain, roughly 37 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 95 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
