Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Kerrisdale, British Columbia
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Fantastic service, clear & consistent communication, and a beautiful, durable product. Simply one of the best contractors we have ever worked with. We got quotes from numerous leading roofers for this job. Mike from Interlock was the only one who came to our house, spent an evening patiently explaining every aspect of the job, showed us many photos and described some of the technical aspects in ways that were easy to understand. When we called back with more questions, he was always available and always super helpful. For the installation, Mike recognized that we had an old house and were concerned about the workmanship. He sent us an experienced crew led by Oswaldo that went above and beyond any expectation we could have had. They not only protected our home but also took pains to protect the neighbors' homes beside ours. They gave us near daily briefings and showed us photos of everything they found on our roof and their work throughout. The job ended up taking much longer than anticipated because our roof had many problems that needed to be repaired. Oswaldo and Mike worked with us to make sure everything was taken care of and repaired before the new roofing was put on. They proved flexible and extremely diligent, communicating effectively throughout. We are thrilled with the result and grateful for all their hard work. We would not hesitate to use their services again and highly recommend them to anyone looking for roofers. As a bonus, we're delighted that we will never send another huge pile of asphalt shingles to the landfill again!
Definitely not the cheapest roof but looks good! The people worked hard during the hottest days of summer and cleaned up after the job was done! It rained heavily two days after the roof was finished! No concerns! Well done!
When I was doing the research on replacing my roof on my house, I was looking for a more environmentally friendly material and something that would keep my house cooler after a hot, sunny day. At one of the environmental fairs I attended, I picked up a brochure describing all types of roofing materials. I chose Interlock Roofing Systems because they offered all the features I was looking for. The advantage of Interlock Roofing Systems is that, from the salesperson to the installers, they are part of the same company. On the news, I had just heard of a horror story of a reputable company that used third-party installers. They ended up cutting corners and did a terrible job for their client. With Interlock, everything was more than satisfactory. The installers were professional and hardworking. The product delivers what is promised. After a hot day, my house is cooler and cools off quicker, so you get a good night’s sleep. I had the Interlock metal slates installed and my roof looks great. The neighborhood loves it! And, no, it’s not noisy when it rains–it’s the same as any other roof. One’s roof takes the most pounding on a house – rain, snow, and wind, so the investment is well worth it. Since you are getting an environmentally friendly, attractive product, plus a great " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty, I highly recommend Interlock Roofing Systems.
We have recently had an Interlock Lifetime Roofing System installed on our house. The initial questions and concerns we had were answered by Colin to our full satisfaction. Upon doing our due diligence prior to agreeing to the job we found that both the price and quality of the Interlock product were unmatched in the marketplace. The job was done in a timely and professional manner in all ways. We are very happy with the results.
Last Christmas, our rental sprung a roof leak. Interlock was able to seal the leak immediately and to complete the installation in February. I have confidence that the new roof will be trouble free as we have an Interlock roof installed on our house ten years ago.
The product is excellent, but the installation of the flashing below a north-facing window was not installed correctly, resulting in leaks when it rained and wind was blowing from the north. The flashing was buckled and caused rain to pour in from the north side of the house, coming in through the pot lights in my downstairs family room. After a ridiculous amount of communication back and forth, it was finally fixed 2 1/2 years later! I had to pay for my own home inspection, which Interlock should have paid for. The final fix took approximately 45 minutes (from a part-time employee, who knew what he was doing). I would not recommend this company to anyone after the terrible customer service I received.NegativeResponsivenessServicesRoof installation
Dear Interlock, Just a note to say Thank you for a beautiful roof. Your employees did an excellent job. They were hard working, persevered through poor weather and finished the project in very good time. They were always friendly and accommodating. We’re very pleased and will recommend your roof to everyone!! Thanks again.
I would like to take this time to say thank you for a job well done. From sales, to project manager, to roofer, the team worked in a highly professional manner. The job was organized efficiently and completed in a timely manner. All materials on completion were taken away within the next day. Michael's work was efficient and very well done. I am extremely satisfied with the quality and workmanship of the roof. I particularly like the finishing touches on the roof edges and around the chimney's flashing. Michael did an excellent job! My home now has a much better cleaner profile. I am also surprised at how there is no extra noise on a rainy day - and we do have those rainy days here on the west coast. I had actually thought this may be an issue with the home being 80 years old as no extra sound proofing allowable, so am very pleased with the outcome. Once again thank you for a job well done.
Now that you have completed the job of replacing our old cedar shingle roof with an Interlock Standing Seam aluminum roof, Jayne and I are writing to express our thanks for the work that you have done. At all times throughout the project, we have been impressed by your professionalism, work ethic and attention to detail. We would also like to thank you for taking efforts to minimize the disruption caused by us by the work and for carrying out several extra jobs (including the replacement of light bulbs in hard to reach lights under the eaves of our house and several sections of corroded downpipe) willingly and efficiently. We are pleased to have had you in charge of the work on our roof and would have no hesitation in strongly recommending you and your team to anyone else wishing to install a new roof.
Many years ago, we had our roof installed by Interlock Roofing Company, which came with a lifetime warranty. The roof served us well, but over the last couple of years the paint began to peel and it became quite unsightly. We contacted Interlock to request a replacement. I have to admit, it took some time and a few follow-up emails and phone calls, but eventually our case was passed to Todd — and thanks to him, our problem was fully resolved.Todd arranged for the best installer, Danny, to handle our roof, and I don’t have enough words to describe how exceptional he is. Not only is Danny extremely knowledgeable and professional, but he is also a true perfectionist who pays attention to every detail. Our roof looks beautiful again thanks to both Todd and Danny. We truly appreciate their dedication and the quality of their work.
Ours was a complicated project with a concrete tile replacement, extremely steep slopes, custom fits and large surface area. Definitely not a roof you want to replace frequently so a lifetime warranty was most appealing. Interlock’s team for this project was super and results are fantastic.
One month into the purchase of my first house, a surprise awaited following a refresh of my gutters – two words every homeowner dreads hearing…’roof replacement!‘ High anxiety. Having no experience or know-how, being a rookie homeowner, replacing the roof felt daunting and uncomfortable. Hearing only the industry horror stories of work done poorly, inadequately and haphazardly, I feared the worst. I immediately took to Google in search of companies and quotes. It did not begin well. The first company priced my job at 24k, and suggested they’d need to ‘refresh’ it in 8 years. The second company was priced more moderately and offered 10 year coverage, but came across pushy, wanting me to sign on the dotted line after the first conversation. I had to tell the operator twice in the same chat that no, I would not be sending an advance payment immediately and was not ready to let them begin work. Needless to say, a terrible start to the search, confirming my fears about the industry and pricing. The next day, back to the Google I went, this time in search of the highest-rated company I could find. ‘Interlock Roofing‘ appeared, along with reviews touting the company’s metal roofing product that was both durable and held considerable ‘curb appeal.’ More than that, the reviews spoke of the company’s professionalism, honesty, quality of work and timeliness (no small feat in an industry known for the exact opposite!). I sent an initial interest email, hoping the reviews were real and true! And my goodness…did they prove to be! From my thorough initial chat with Lynda to the revealing Powerpoint orientation meeting with Mike, to Todd’s quote process and honest job pricing sans showroom showdown, to the finishing roof touches with installer extraordinaire Mike, and then, finally, addition of snowguards with expert Tariq…Interlock’s team went above and beyond. Patient, more than they probably should have been with me, a rookie with many questions (plenty of them of the ‘stupid’ variety if I do say!) and always willing to explain things simple or difficult. The culture and integrity of Interlock’s team really shines through at each step, and removed any anxiety I had. I completed a major 6-month renovation at my home, and I can say with 100% certainty…Interlock was my favorite contractor of the entire process, inside or out. Final word about the quality of product, the metal roof. I have spent the days, weeks and months since the install touting the Interlock roof to neighbors, family and friends! The quality is off the charts, and the peace of mind it provides is best of all – 50-year warranty and no lost sleep over leaks, water damage or degradation over time. The cost difference? The quotes I received…the pricing was remarkably similar for such a tremendous gap in value! And the process was transparent, the team trustworthy start to finish. Living in Vancouver in our climate, this is the only choice for peace of mind. The final bonus? It looks absolutely beautiful at street level. So, from one rookie homeowner to another…I hope you choose and trust Interlock with your home! Lynda, Mike, Todd, Mike and Tariq…folks with integrity you want working on your home.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Kerrisdale
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Kerrisdale, British Columbia. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Kerrisdale.
Does a metal roof handle Kerrisdale's snow and ice buildup?
Yes—aluminum's smooth, interlocking surface sheds snow more readily than asphalt, reducing ice-dam risk during Kerrisdale's typical 57 cm winter snowfall and 38 freeze-thaw cycles per year. The four-way interlocking panels resist wind uplift even when snow loads shift, and optional snow guards let you control runoff safely. Aluminum won't split, crack, or curl from freeze-thaw stress the way wood shakes or concrete tiles do, so your roof stays intact through decades of our local climate swings.
Why won't my metal roof rust in Vancouver's wet climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes. Instead, aluminum naturally forms a thin oxide layer that actually self-heals when scratched, providing passive corrosion resistance. Kerrisdale receives about 1437 mm of rain annually in a salt-air region, which would devastate steel roofing; Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy, combined with a Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish applied to both sides, is rated for exactly these coastal salt-air exposures—the product has been installed from sea-level homes to Antarctic research stations.
How does a metal roof handle Kerrisdale's 1400+ mm of annual rain?
Kerrisdale's heavy rainfall (about 1437 mm yearly) demands flawless water shedding, which the four-way interlocking panel design delivers. Each aluminum panel locks on all four sides, creating a continuous rain-barrier that channels water downslope; no fastener heads protrude through the surface where leaks typically start. The system is ICC-ES evaluated (ESR-1790) for IBC/IRC compliance, confirming leak-free performance under rated rain loads. Combined with proper underlayment and flashing installed to spec, Interlock metal roofing keeps water out where asphalt shingles, which overlap rather than interlock, eventually fail.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Over a 40-50 year period, aluminum is the last roof you'll buy. Asphalt typically needs replacement every 15-20 years; metal lasts 50+ years under warranty (transferable to the next owner for 50 years total), eliminating multiple tear-off and disposal cycles. The Guardian lifetime limited warranty covers rusting, cracking, splitting, and impact loss for the original owner—no prorated decline. Current interest-free financing for 3 months and savings of at least $2499 on installation further shrink the payback window, especially when you factor in avoided labor costs and landfill disposal for asphalt replacements.
Can my house support a metal roof, or do I need structural work?
No structural reinforcement is required. Interlock's aluminum panels weigh as little as 0.41 lb/sq ft (Shingle profile) to 0.59 lb/sq ft (Tile), making them about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This extraordinary lightness lets the Tile profile—which replicates ceramic tile's look—install directly over most existing roofing without adding load. In contrast, slate or concrete tile would demand expensive roof-frame upgrades. The four-way interlocking design distributes the minimal weight evenly, so older homes or buildings with modest framing can be retrofitted safely and cost-effectively.
Does hail damage metal roofing, and could it lower insurance premiums?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Metro Vancouver's wind gusts reach 114 km/h, sometimes accompanied by severe weather, making impact resistance valuable. Many insurers recognize Class 4 impact ratings and may offer premium reductions or waive deductibles on metal roofs. Contact your carrier with the UL 2218 certification to explore potential savings; the non-corrosive aluminum construction and dent-resistance of the interlocking design mean your roof maintains its appearance and structural integrity regardless of weather events.
Will a metal roof hold up to Kerrisdale's wind and winter gusts?
Yes. The four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec—far exceeding Kerrisdale's typical gusts of 114 km/h. Each panel locks on all four edges, preventing uplift and lateral movement that tears asphalt shingles free. This design is especially critical during the unpredictable winter storms common to Metro Vancouver, where wind and rain often combine. The aluminum construction adds no excess weight that could strain fasteners, and the interlocking geometry distributes wind loads across the entire roof system, not just edge fasteners.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Metal requires far less maintenance than traditional roofing. Asphalt shingles need regular inspections, granule replacement, and moss/algae treatment—especially in Kerrisdale's 2927 annual sunshine hours and frequent moisture. Wood shakes split and rot; you'll replace sections every 10-15 years. Aluminum doesn't crack, curl, rot, or support moss growth on the coating itself (the PVDF fluorocarbon finish prevents organic adhesion). Your primary task is occasional gutter cleaning—the same as any roof. The 30-year warranty on the Alunar® coating (ASTM D4214/D2244 tested) means no re-coating for three decades, and the non-prorated lifetime limited warranty covers defects, not wear.
Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Kerrisdale?
Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd. serves Kerrisdale and the greater Metro Vancouver region with over 40 years of roofing experience since 1983. As the authorized local installer for Interlock products manufactured in Delta, BC, they understand Kerrisdale's specific climate challenges—heavy rainfall, freeze-thaw cycles, and coastal salt air—and the ICC-ES ESR-1790 installation requirements that ensure warranty coverage. They handle everything from site assessment and material selection (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, or Standing Seam profiles) to installation over existing roofs and final inspection, offering current promotions including interest-free financing and savings of at least $2499.
Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Aluminum roofing ends the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle. Interlock panels are approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, meaning they return to the aluminum supply stream rather than a landfill. Asphalt shingles, replaced every 15-20 years, generate millions of tons of landfill waste annually; over a 50-year period, you'd dispose of multiple asphalt roofs. Aluminum's longevity—the transferable 50-year warranty term—dramatically reduces the frequency of replacement and associated environmental cost. The roofing-grade alloy requires no virgin bauxite mining for each new roof; recycled aluminum uses only 5% of the energy required for primary production, making metal roofing a lower-impact choice aligned with CALGreen sustainability standards.
