| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
Fantastic service, clear & consistent communication, and a beautiful, durable product. Simply one of the best contractors we have ever worked with. We got quotes from numerous leading roofers for this job. Mike from Interlock was the only one who came to our house, spent an evening patiently explaining every aspect of the job, showed us many photos and described some of the technical aspects in ways that were easy to understand. When we called back with more questions, he was always available and always super helpful. For the installation, Mike recognized that we had an old house and were concerned about the workmanship. He sent us an experienced crew led by Oswaldo that went above and beyond any expectation we could have had. They not only protected our home but also took pains to protect the neighbors' homes beside ours. They gave us near daily briefings and showed us photos of everything they found on our roof and their work throughout. The job ended up taking much longer than anticipated because our roof had many problems that needed to be repaired. Oswaldo and Mike worked with us to make sure everything was taken care of and repaired before the new roofing was put on. They proved flexible and extremely diligent, communicating effectively throughout. We are thrilled with the result and grateful for all their hard work. We would not hesitate to use their services again and highly recommend them to anyone looking for roofers. As a bonus, we're delighted that we will never send another huge pile of asphalt shingles to the landfill again!
Definitely not the cheapest roof but looks good! The people worked hard during the hottest days of summer and cleaned up after the job was done! It rained heavily two days after the roof was finished! No concerns! Well done!
I would suggest the sales team advise potential clients that even in a climate like Vancouver, due to the slickness of the roofing material that would be advisable to install snow guards. If the home is in close proximity to another dwelling.
Start date verbally agreed upon was not honoured.
None at this time. Great overall experience with the entire Interlock team.
I would recommend Interlock Roofing because their product works fine. I think they need to manage the schedule better because on our project sometimes they missed days but they would call us. I had a good experience because Interlock Roofing finished before their deadline.
Interlock Roofing could improve on communication with the office staff and with the installation crew.
Absolutely would recommend their products & installation. Was a great pleasure to work with the whole team - from sales to installation Great experience working with Interlock - the entire crew was fantastic
Roof looks great but it is an expensive investment. A supervisor visiting on site more often and better clean-up. Overall, we think the new roof is wonderful. We have noticed cooler temperatures this summer which is a pleasant surprise. The garbage left behind for several days after completion was not acceptable. The mess attracted rodents and smelled terrible.
Working schedule for 3rd party contractors that Interlock brings in for some of the job requirements. Thank you to the whole team at Interlock for a job well done. We love our roof and the snow guards:), Everything looks amazing. Looking forward to the next project with you all.
None
Absolutely. The only thing Interlock Roofing could improve on for our experience is the clean afterwards. Need to find a better way to get the majority of the little metal pieces that are all over the ground.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Dunbar
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Dunbar, British Columbia. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Dunbar.
How does a metal roof handle Dunbar's snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because aluminum's smooth, interlocking panels don't trap moisture the way granular shingles do. Dunbar receives about 57 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 38 freeze-thaw days per year—conditions that crack and curl asphalt shingles. Interlock's four-way interlocking design and lightweight construction (the Shake profile weighs just 0.58 lb/sq ft) eliminate structural strain while snow sheds cleanly, reducing ice dam formation and the water damage that follows thaw cycles.
Why won't an aluminum metal roof rust in Dunbar's wet climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it forms a microscopic oxide layer that protects the metal and self-heals when scratched—a process that repeats indefinitely. Dunbar's 1437 mm of annual rainfall and damp marine air would accelerate rust in steel roofing, but aluminum thrives here. Interlock applies Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish to both sides of every panel, adding a 30-year coating warranty against fading and chalking (ASTM D4214/D2244 measured), giving you two independent corrosion barriers.
Does heavy rainfall in Dunbar cause leaks in metal roofs?
Dunbar averages 1437 mm of rain yearly—well above Canada's national average—so leak protection is critical. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels create overlapping channels that direct water downward and outward; water cannot pool or work backward into seams like it can with traditional shingles. When installed to Interlock's specification over solid deck and ICC-ES–compliant underlayment (ESR-1790), the system meets or exceeds IRC rainfall requirements. Heavy downpours drain quickly, minimizing saturation and preventing the gradual seepage that degrades asphalt and wood shingles over time.
Will a metal roof hold up to Dunbar's wind and coastal gusts?
Dunbar's typical gusts reach 114 km/h, and the region experiences daily-mean winds around 16 km/h. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels lock together mechanically, resisting uplift far more effectively than nailed shingles. The Guardian Warranty guarantees wind resistance to 120 mph (193 km/h)—well above local storm conditions. Because the panels interlock along all four edges, not just two, a single gust cannot lift or separate them. This design has proven itself across coastal installations from the Pacific to Antarctica, where wind loads are equally demanding.
Can my existing roof structure support a metal roof, or do I need reinforcement?
Almost no reinforcement is needed because aluminum is extraordinarily light. The Mediterranean Tile profile—which replicates the weight and elegance of clay or concrete tile—weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it roughly 96% lighter than the real thing. Most existing roofs that support asphalt shingles can support Interlock metal roofing without modification, saving tens of thousands in structural upgrades. This also means faster installation: Interlock installs directly over most existing roofs, eliminating costly tear-off labor and the asphalt-to-landfill waste cycle, while maintaining the same structural integrity.
Does a metal roof get damaged by hail, and can it lower my insurance costs?
Interlock aluminum roofs carry UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest hailstone rating available. The Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Because the panels are non-combustible (Class A fire classification available) and virtually impact-proof, many insurers offer discounts on metal roofs compared to asphalt shingles, which dent, lose granules, and leak after hail impacts. Request a quote from your insurer mentioning UL 2218 Class 4 rating; several BC carriers recognize this and adjust premiums accordingly.
What's the real lifespan of a metal roof, and what does the warranty cover?
The Guardian Warranty provides a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty to the original owner—covering rust, rot, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable once to the next owner for 50 years from completion. That means your roof never needs a second warranty period or deductible during your ownership. Dunbar's 2927 annual sunshine hours and 57 cm snow exposure test aluminum continuously, but the 3105-H24 alloy and Alunar finish withstand this punishment for decades without the asphalt shingle's typical 15–20 year degradation cycle.
Can a metal roof reduce cooling costs in Dunbar's climate?
energy-efficient Interlock colors carry thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny profile), reflecting heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your home. Dunbar's 2927 sunshine hours annually expose your roof to consistent solar gain; a reflective metal surface reduces attic temperatures significantly compared to dark asphalt. Interlock meets Cool Roof Rating Council standards, lowering HVAC runtime and cooling costs year-round. The benefit compounds over 40–50 years, offsetting the roof's installed cost multiple times through energy savings alone.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles in Dunbar?
Metal roofing costs more initially but less over the roof's complete lifecycle. An asphalt shingle roof in Dunbar's wet, freeze-thaw climate (38 freeze-thaw days per year, 1437 mm rain) typically lasts 15–20 years before curling, splits, and leaks force replacement. A metal roof warrants a lifetime, non-prorated material warranty to you and transfers 50 years to the next owner. Over 50 years, you avoid two or three asphalt replacements, tear-off disposal costs, and repeated labor. Current interest-free financing for 3 months makes the transition affordable while eliminating the asphalt replacement cycle forever.
How much maintenance does a metal roof require versus asphalt or tile?
Metal roofs require almost no maintenance. Unlike asphalt shingles—which lose granules, curl, and crack in freeze-thaw cycles—or clay tile—which splits and absorbs moisture in Dunbar's 1437 mm annual rainfall—aluminum is inert. It doesn't rot, split, or require sealing. Occasional gutter cleaning is sufficient. The Alunar PVDF finish (warranty 30 years against chalking and fading per ASTM D4214) protects both sides of the panel, so even salt air and constant rain don't degrade the surface. You'll never replace flashing, re-caulk seams, or hire pressure washing to restore the roof's appearance.
