Review: October 9, 2020Completion: June 25, 2020

When the product was supposed to be delivered, we had problems. We had a message from the company saying Monday would be the date. No one appeared. A week later, we were out shopping and they called to tell us they delivered it. The supervisor of the installation waited in the truck for us to get back and open the garage. He had to put it in the garage because the big truck couldn't wait. Overall, we are very satisfied. We had a lot of bushes around the house. I would have thought they would have cleaned a bit better. They cleaned the big things, but they didn't pick up the little things. I'm sure it is hard to do, though.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Dundee Township

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Dundee Township, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Dundee Township.

How does metal roofing handle the snow load in Illinois winters?

Interlock's aluminum panels shed snow and ice efficiently because their smooth, interlocking design creates no valleys or pockets where ice can dam up. Dundee Township averages about 77 centimeters of snow annually, and the ultralight weight—the Slate profile installs at roughly 0.41 pounds per square foot—means your home's frame carries almost no extra burden. Unlike asphalt or wood shakes, aluminum won't absorb meltwater or weaken under repeated freeze-thaw cycles; the material simply doesn't degrade from moisture. Add optional snow guards to manage slides in high-traffic areas, and you have a system that works with winter rather than fighting it.

Will freeze-thaw cycles crack or degrade aluminum roofing in Kane County?

No; aluminum has no moisture to freeze inside it, so freeze-thaw damage is physically impossible. Your area experiences about 81 freeze-thaw days per year, which would cause asphalt to crack, wood shakes to split, and concrete tile to spall—but aluminum oxide simply doesn't absorb water and cannot expand when frozen. The 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloys are specifically chosen for their stability across temperature swings. Combined with the four-way interlocking design and a 30-year Alunar® PVDF coating warranty against all forms of degradation (ASTM D4214 verified), your roof actually gets stronger over decades, not weaker.

Can metal roofing stand up to Illinois wind gusts?

Yes—the four-way interlocking panels lock each sheet to its neighbors on all four sides, creating a unified system that resists wind speeds up to 120 mph. Dundee Township experiences typical gusts around 105 kilometers per hour (about 65 mph), well within that range. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms this wind resistance for code compliance. Because each panel is mechanically secured and supported by its interlocked neighbors, wind pressure spreads across the whole roof rather than lifting individual shingles. During spring and late fall when gusts peak, you'll have confidence that nothing is going to peel or flap.

Does hail damage to metal roofing qualify for insurance discounts?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty actually covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That level of protection often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts; contact your carrier with the UL 2218 certification. Hail events in Illinois are unpredictable, but when they happen, a Class 4 rated roof stops damage that would destroy asphalt shingles or wood. You'll have documentation (the ICC-ES report and UL listing) to show your insurer, which strengthens both your claim and your home's value. This is one of the few improvements that can literally pay for itself through lower premiums.

How does aluminum roofing perform during heavy rainfall?

Dundee Township receives about 920 millimeters of rain yearly, and the interlocking four-way design sheds water with no pooling or seeping. Each panel overlaps its neighbor on all four edges; water rolls from peak to gutter in a continuous path rather than finding gaps. Installation requires a solid deck and underlayment, exactly like asphalt roofing, so water that somehow gets under the panels (rare) drains away safely. The seams are mechanical, not adhesive, so they never crack or deteriorate like tar-sealed asphalt joints. In 25+ years of installations from coastal salt-air regions to wet northern climates, Interlock has built a track record of zero leak issues when installed to spec.

Why can't aluminum roofing rust like steel roofing does?

Aluminum contains no iron; rust is iron oxide, which only happens in ferrous metals. The moment aluminum is exposed to air, a microscopically thin oxide layer forms automatically and actually protects what's underneath. If you scratch it, the oxide layer self-heals—that's chemistry, not a sales claim. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum (ASTM B209), plus a two-sided Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. In salt air, freshwater climates, or anywhere in between, the aluminum substrate cannot corrode. Steel roofing requires constant vigilance for rust; aluminum requires none.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Asphalt lasts 15–20 years; Interlock carries a lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner, with a one-time transferable 50-year term for the next owner. Over 50 years, you'll replace asphalt two or three times, each time paying removal, disposal, and reinstallation labor. Metal installs once. The Guardian Warranty covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—costs asphalt owners face repeatedly. When you factor in elimination of tear-off labor, landfill fees, and repeated installation charges, metal roofing becomes the cheapest long-term option, not the most expensive. It's literally the last roof you'll buy.

Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for metal roofing?

No structural reinforcement is necessary. Interlock's Slate profile weighs about 0.41 pounds per square foot—roughly the same as asphalt shingles. The Mediterranean Tile profile, despite replicating the look of heavy clay or concrete tile, weighs just 0.59 pounds per square foot, making it approximately 96% lighter than the real thing. Most homes can accept metal roofing directly over an existing asphalt roof without adding any structural support, which also saves removal and disposal costs. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation documents this across the range of profiles. Lightweight installation means faster completion and lower labor bills while keeping your framing untouched.

How is aluminum roofing better for the environment than asphalt?

Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable; at end of life, the panels enter the metal recycling stream and become new products—beverage cans, automotive parts, building materials—indefinitely. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, end up in landfills by the millions of tons annually; one typical tear-off generates 5–10 tons of waste per home. Interlock has been manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC, using established recycling infrastructure. Your old asphalt roof will be removed and discarded; your aluminum roof will eventually be worth money to a recycler. Over its 50-year lifespan—or beyond—you're removing a recurring landfill problem and replacing it with a circular-economy product. CALGreen verification confirms the reduced maintenance burden as well.

What maintenance does a metal roof actually need?

Virtually none compared to asphalt, wood, or tile. Asphalt shingles require regular inspection, moss removal, and gutter cleaning; wood shakes need staining and fungicide; tile requires mortar re-pointing and individual piece replacement. Aluminum panels don't rot, don't split, don't harbor moss or algae, and don't degrade. Your gutters still need clearing—that's a house task, not a roof task—and you can inspect the roof during normal maintenance without fear of damaging the surface. The Alunar® coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (tested to ASTM D4214 and D2244 standards), meaning the appearance stays intact. For a home in Dundee Township with 3,037 annual sunshine hours and frequent temperature swings, a maintenance-free roof is genuinely valuable over decades.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Dundee Township’s climate?

Yes. Dundee Township averages about 77 cm of snow, 920 mm of rain, roughly 81 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 105 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
