I told them I was not interested in buying that day. I was just doing my research on what building materials were available so that I would know when I am ready in the future.

Review: October 9, 2020Completion: June 25, 2020

When the product was supposed to be delivered, we had problems. We had a message from the company saying Monday would be the date. No one appeared. A week later, we were out shopping and they called to tell us they delivered it. The supervisor of the installation waited in the truck for us to get back and open the garage. He had to put it in the garage because the big truck couldn't wait. Overall, we are very satisfied. We had a lot of bushes around the house. I would have thought they would have cleaned a bit better. They cleaned the big things, but they didn't pick up the little things. I'm sure it is hard to do, though.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Rutland Township

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Rutland Township, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Rutland Township.

Will a metal roof hold up to Rutland Township's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes—aluminum thrives in freeze-thaw conditions. Unlike asphalt shingles that crack and curl through roughly 81 freeze-thaw days per year in Kane County, roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum expands and contracts uniformly without brittleness or permanent deformation. The material's oxide layer self-heals when scratched, so micro-damage from thermal cycling doesn't lead to corrosion. Interlock's Alunar 70% PVDF coating, warranted 30 years against cracking and fading, maintains flexibility across the temperature swings your region experiences. The four-way interlocking panels shed water and ice without pooling, preventing the expansion stress that damages rigid materials.

Does Interlock metal roofing handle heavy snow loads?

Absolutely. Rutland Township receives about 77 centimeters of snow annually, and Interlock's aluminum panels weigh as little as 0.41 lb/sq ft (Shingle profile), so snow sits on the roof rather than straining your structure. The four-way interlocking design locks panels together, distributing snow load evenly across the entire system. Snow guards can be added if you prefer to manage slide-off. Unlike heavy slate or tile (which require expensive reinforcement), Interlock installs directly over most existing roofs without structural work. The smooth, slippery surface encourages gradual melting and shedding, reducing ice dam formation that traps water and causes leaks.

Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel metal roofing?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Unlike steel metal roofs that oxidize and deteriorate, roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum form a protective oxide layer on exposure to air—the same chemistry that protects aircraft. If the coating is scratched, the oxide layer self-heals, stopping corrosion before it starts. Interlock applies its Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish to both sides of every panel, doubling protection against Rutland Township's 920 millimeters of annual rainfall and moisture-rich air. With a 30-year coating warranty and a lifetime limited material warranty covering rust, you're protected through decades of wet springs and snowy winters without the degradation that claims asphalt and steel roofs.

Can metal roofing withstand Kane County wind gusts?

Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h), far exceeding the typical gusts of around 105 km/h recorded in your area. The interlocking design means each panel is mechanically locked to its neighbors on all four sides, distributing wind load across the entire system rather than relying on fasteners or adhesive alone. Installation to specification is critical and Interlock's local installers, serving the region since 2001, follow proven protocols. This engineered redundancy—combined with the light weight of aluminum panels—keeps them secure even during severe spring and autumn wind events that can lift or tear asphalt shingles.

Will hail damage my metal roof, and can I save on insurance?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer discounts on homeowner premiums for Class 4 metal roofs, offsetting installation cost over time. While Kane County's climate includes spring hail risk, aluminum's density and the interlocking panel system absorb impact without cracking or losing structural integrity the way asphalt shingles do. Contact your agent about metal roof discounts; the UL 2218 Class 4 certification and warranty details make your case clear. Unlike traditional materials, you won't file hail claims repeatedly.

Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs just 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so your home's framing experiences minimal additional load. Compare that to traditional slate or tile, which often requires expensive structural upgrades costing thousands of dollars. Aluminum's extraordinary lightness means Interlock installs over most existing roofs, eliminating costly tear-off labor and avoiding a dumpster full of asphalt going to landfill. Your contractor simply inspects the existing deck for soundness, adds underlayment and flashing, and installs the panels. This simplicity also speeds installation, minimizing disruption across Rutland Township's roughly 77 centimeters of annual snowfall and 920 millimeters of rain.

What's the real lifespan of an Interlock metal roof?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance for as long as you own the home. The warranty is also one-time transferable, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from completion. In practice, Interlock roofs installed since 1998 have proven durable through decades of varied North American climates, from coastal salt air to inland freeze-thaw regions like Rutland Township with its 81 annual freeze-thaw cycles. The 30-year coating warranty (Alunar PVDF, ASTM D4214/D2244) ensures color and finish hold through roughly 3037 hours of annual sunshine. This is the last roof most homeowners will install.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?

Far less than asphalt, wood, or tile. Once installed, Interlock metal roofing requires no annual treatments, sealant reapplication, or moss removal. Gutters and downspouts should be cleared seasonally (standard for any roof), and snow can be gently cleared if desired—but the smooth aluminum surface naturally sheds water and melting snow without pooling. Unlike asphalt shingles that degrade under Rutland Township's 920 millimeters of rain and require inspection after every storm, or wood shake prone to rot and insect damage in humid climates, aluminum panels simply weather quietly. The Alunar 70% PVDF finish resists fading and chalking for 30 years, so no repainting or re-coating. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance burden—which translates to more time and money for your family.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt?

Yes, when you measure total cost over the roof's life. Asphalt shingles typically last 15–20 years in climates like Rutland Township with 77 centimeters of snow, 920 millimeters of rain, and 81 freeze-thaw days annually—meaning two or three replacements during your ownership. Each tear-off costs $1000–$3000 and sends tons of waste to landfill. Interlock's lifetime limited warranty (non-prorated) and 50-year transferable coverage eliminate replacement cycles. While the initial investment is higher, spreading cost across 50 years—and factoring in avoided tear-offs, no maintenance sealant, potential insurance discounts (Class 4 hail rating), and energy savings—makes metal roofing the last roof you'll buy. Add resale appeal: homes with metal roofs often attract strong interest from buyers tired of replacement hassles.

What's the installation timeline, and can you install over my existing roof?

Yes, Interlock installs over most existing roofs, avoiding expensive and disruptive tear-off. Your local installer (Interlock Metal Roofing, serving the region since 2001) inspects the existing deck for soundness, adds underlayment and flashing, then mechanically fastens the aluminum panels using a proven protocol. Installation typically takes 2–5 days depending on roof size and complexity, minimizing noise and disruption. The four-way interlocking design means each panel locks to its neighbors, so installation is methodical and secure. Unlike asphalt tear-offs that generate landfill waste and asbestos concerns in older homes, going over your existing roof preserves structural material and keeps the project cleaner. Your contractor will coordinate timing around Rutland Township's weather—avoiding the heaviest snow and rain periods when possible.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Rutland Township’s climate?

Yes. Rutland Township averages about 77 cm of snow, 920 mm of rain, roughly 81 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 105 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
