Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for East Dundee, Illinois
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Everything was perfect! The only thing they couldn’t control was the weather! Obviously! But also that was no problem! From start to finish it was a pleasure to work with Interlock Roofing! We will be enjoying our roof for many many more years to come!
They could have only improve on the cleanup. It was a very good experience.
The roof looks absolutely beautiful and we hope it performs well in the snow.
Sales rep John Mondschean is fantastic, a true asset to Interlock, and should be given a raise and a promotion!
I am very happy with the roof and crew. Everyone did a fine job, and the roof looks great! We are very happy with the product we received from Interlock. The roof looks Great!
When the product was supposed to be delivered, we had problems. We had a message from the company saying Monday would be the date. No one appeared. A week later, we were out shopping and they called to tell us they delivered it. The supervisor of the installation waited in the truck for us to get back and open the garage. He had to put it in the garage because the big truck couldn't wait. Overall, we are very satisfied. We had a lot of bushes around the house. I would have thought they would have cleaned a bit better. They cleaned the big things, but they didn't pick up the little things. I'm sure it is hard to do, though.
I told them I was not interested in buying that day. I was just doing my research on what building materials were available so that I would know when I am ready in the future.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in East Dundee
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in East Dundee, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in East Dundee.
Will a metal roof handle East Dundee's freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes. Aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but its non-porous structure resists water absorption—the primary cause of freeze-thaw damage in asphalt and wood. East Dundee experiences about 81 freeze-thaw days per year across a mean annual temperature of 10.1°C. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels and 3105-H24 aluminum alloy are engineered to flex without cracking or warping. The aluminum oxide layer self-heals when scratched, preventing moisture penetration that would otherwise compromise the material through winter cycles.
How does a metal roof perform under East Dundee's snow load?
Metal roofs shed snow efficiently because ice and snow don't bond to smooth aluminum the way they do to asphalt. East Dundee averages about 77 cm of snow annually. Interlock panels weigh just 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Shingle profile and 0.59 lb/sq ft for Tile—approximately 96% lighter than traditional clay or concrete tile—so your existing structure handles the load without reinforcement. Four-way interlocking panels resist wind-driven snow infiltration. Add snow guards if desired for safety, but the lightweight design and smooth surface naturally prevent ice dam buildup.
Can metal roofing withstand East Dundee's wind gusts?
Yes. Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed per specifications. East Dundee's typical daily-maximum winds are about 19 km/h, with gusts reaching approximately 105 km/h—well within the roof's rated capacity. The four-way interlocking panel design distributes wind load across multiple connection points, preventing any single gust from lifting or separating sections. This interlocking system, combined with proper fastening, makes metal roofing more wind-resistant than asphalt shingles, which can be torn loose at lower wind speeds.
Does metal roofing qualify for hail damage coverage or insurance discounts?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers offer discounts for Class 4-rated roofing because claims are rare. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 rating and ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 to request a quote. East Dundee's climate brings spring and early-summer thunderstorms; the Class 4 rating means you're protected from the hail risk that damages asphalt roofs and triggers claims.
Why doesn't aluminum roofing rust like steel does?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. The 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) develops an aluminum oxide layer that protects the metal underneath; when scratched, this layer self-heals in air. Interlock applies Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish to both sides of every panel, adding a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214/D2244). East Dundee's 920 mm of annual rainfall and 77 cm of snow mean year-round moisture exposure—exactly why aluminum's non-corrosive nature outperforms steel roofing, which rusts when the coating is breached.
Will a metal roof reduce cooling costs in summer?
energy-efficient colors on Interlock roofing achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, reflecting heat that asphalt absorbs. East Dundee receives about 3037 sunshine hours per year—substantial solar exposure even at this latitude. Reflective coatings reduce the heat transferred into your attic and living spaces, lowering air-conditioning demand during warm months. Metal roofs stay cooler than asphalt under direct sun, which also extends the roof's service life by reducing thermal stress. Cool Roof Rating Council ratings are available for qualifying colors.
Can I install metal roofing over my existing roof without structural work?
Yes, in most cases. Interlock's Tile profile weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so no structural reinforcement is needed when installing over an existing asphalt roof. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels distribute weight evenly across your existing deck. This lightweight installation advantage saves labor costs and eliminates the tear-off, which means less disruption and no landfill disposal of old asphalt. Your existing framing, designed for asphalt shingles, easily supports aluminum metal roofing.
What warranty comes with Interlock metal roofing?
The Guardian Warranty provides a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable once to the next owner, who receives 50 years of coverage from the completion date. This one-time transfer adds resale appeal and recognizes the roof's exceptional durability. Combined with the 30-year Alunar® coating warranty against fading and chalking, you're protected across multiple ownership periods—a level of confidence asphalt shingles simply cannot match.
What maintenance does a metal roof require in East Dundee?
Minimal. Interlock aluminum roofing requires no regular inspections, repairs, or replacement of individual panels the way asphalt or wood roofs do. Rain (about 920 mm annually) naturally washes the surface; the Alunar® PVDF finish resists buildup. Unlike asphalt, there's no granule loss, no cracking or curling in East Dundee's 81 freeze-thaw cycles per year, and no wood rot or splitting to monitor. Gutters should be cleared seasonally, and trees trimmed back—standard maintenance for any roof. The CALGreen-verified low-maintenance profile means fewer contractor visits and lower long-term ownership costs.
Is metal roofing more environmentally responsible than asphalt?
Interlock metal roofing is approximately 95% recyclable aluminum, ending the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle. When a metal roof reaches the end of its life—which takes decades longer than asphalt—the entire panel can be recycled into new products without loss of material properties. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, shed fiberglass and bitumen into landfills where they persist for centuries. East Dundee homeowners choosing metal roofing eliminate the environmental cost of repeated tear-offs and landfill disposal every 15–25 years. One metal roof installed today replaces three or four asphalt roofs over the same timespan.
Is a metal roof a good choice for East Dundee’s climate?
Yes. East Dundee averages about 77 cm of snow, 920 mm of rain, roughly 81 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 105 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
