Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Pingree Grove, Illinois
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
I told them I was not interested in buying that day. I was just doing my research on what building materials were available so that I would know when I am ready in the future.
They could have only improve on the cleanup. It was a very good experience.
The roof looks absolutely beautiful and we hope it performs well in the snow.
Sales rep John Mondschean is fantastic, a true asset to Interlock, and should be given a raise and a promotion!
Everything was perfect! The only thing they couldn’t control was the weather! Obviously! But also that was no problem! From start to finish it was a pleasure to work with Interlock Roofing! We will be enjoying our roof for many many more years to come!
I am very happy with the roof and crew. Everyone did a fine job, and the roof looks great! We are very happy with the product we received from Interlock. The roof looks Great!
When the product was supposed to be delivered, we had problems. We had a message from the company saying Monday would be the date. No one appeared. A week later, we were out shopping and they called to tell us they delivered it. The supervisor of the installation waited in the truck for us to get back and open the garage. He had to put it in the garage because the big truck couldn't wait. Overall, we are very satisfied. We had a lot of bushes around the house. I would have thought they would have cleaned a bit better. They cleaned the big things, but they didn't pick up the little things. I'm sure it is hard to do, though.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Pingree Grove
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Pingree Grove, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Pingree Grove.
Does metal roofing handle heavy snow and ice in Pingree Grove winters?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are engineered to bear snow loads safely; the material weighs only 0.41 lb/sq ft (Shingle profile), so snow accumulation loads the framing, not the roof itself. Pingree Grove averages about 77 cm of snow annually with roughly 81 freeze-thaw cycles per year. The smooth metal surface sheds meltwater efficiently, and optional snow guards keep snow from sliding unpredictably. Unlike asphalt, aluminum won't become brittle or crack under repeated freeze-thaw stress.
Why should I choose aluminum roofing over steel in Illinois?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. When the surface is scratched, the aluminum oxide layer self-heals automatically, preventing corrosion at the damage site. Steel roofing requires constant vigilance against rust, especially during Pingree Grove's 920 mm of annual rainfall and high-humidity freezing cycles. Interlock's 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy is ASTM B209 certified, and the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating is applied to both panel sides for 30-year fade and chalk protection—no rust maintenance ever needed.
How does aluminum roofing survive Pingree Grove's freeze-thaw cycles?
Aluminum expands and contracts uniformly with temperature swings without cracking, splitting, or warping—conditions that degrade asphalt and wood. With about 81 freeze-thaw days per year in Kane County, this durability matters. The four-way interlocking design accommodates panel movement safely. The Alunar coating resists embrittlement from UV cycling (Pingree Grove averages 3,037 annual sunshine hours), so the material stays flexible and won't splinter or curl like asphalt shingles do after repeated freezing. ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance confirms performance under North American climatic loads.
Can metal roofing withstand Pingree Grove's wind gusts?
Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Pingree Grove's typical wind gusts reach about 105 km/h (65 mph), well within rated capacity. The four-way mechanical interlocking of panels creates redundant fastening—each panel locks to its neighbors, so wind uplift cannot separate individual shingles. This design exceeds the performance of single-fastened asphalt and is tested under UL standards. Homeowners in high-wind zones often see insurance premium reductions with metal roofing.
Do I need to reinforce my home's framing for a metal tile roof?
No reinforcement is required. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Traditional tile roofs demand structural upgrades; aluminum tile can install directly over most existing roofs. This means lower labor costs and no surprises during installation. Pingree Grove homes built for conventional asphalt roofing (typically 2–3 lb/sq ft) easily support aluminum at a fraction of that load. The Guardian Warranty covers installation over existing roof decks, making replacement straightforward.
What maintenance does an Interlock metal roof require?
Almost none. Unlike asphalt shingles that curl and crack, wood shakes that split, or clay tiles that require seasonal inspection, Interlock aluminum resists deterioration. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 measured), so repainting is not needed. Occasional gutter cleaning and debris removal suffice. Pingree Grove's moderate rainfall (920 mm annually) and freeze-thaw cycling won't degrade the material. CALGreen verification confirms Interlock roofing qualifies as reduced-maintenance—a real cost advantage over 50 years of ownership.
What warranty covers an Interlock metal roof, and how long will it last?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's one-time transferable, giving the next owner 50 years from completion—a powerful selling point if you move. With no rust possible, no wood rot (aluminum doesn't rot), and a sealed panel system, the roof outlasts multiple asphalt replacements. Installed since 1998 in Delta, BC, and deployed from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station, Interlock panels routinely perform 40+ years in demanding climates comparable to Illinois.
Is metal roofing more sustainable than asphalt shingles?
Yes. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable; at end of life, the material enters aluminum supply chains rather than landfills. Asphalt shingle tearoffs generate millions of tons of landfill waste annually. Pingree Grove receives about 920 mm of rain and 77 cm of snow yearly, so roof durability directly reduces replacement cycles. Because Interlock roofing lasts 40+ years versus 15–20 for asphalt, fewer replacements mean fewer tearoffs and less environmental impact. The material is also lightweight, so installation requires less equipment and fewer site resources than slate or tile alternatives.
Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Pingree Grove?
Interlock Metal Roofing has served the Pingree Grove and Kane County region since 2001 with direct installation expertise. Our crews understand local building codes, permit processes, and Illinois climate challenges—freeze-thaw cycles, seasonal wind gusts near 105 km/h, and snow loads around 77 cm. We install over existing roofs, handle custom flashing for gutters and valleys, and ensure ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance on every job. Local service means faster response times, familiarity with neighborhood HOA requirements, and accountability in the community where we work.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt?
Over the roof's lifetime, yes. Asphalt costs less initially but requires replacement every 15–20 years; metal lasts 40+ years with no maintenance beyond occasional cleanup. A Pingree Grove homeowner who buys once at 35 years old and stays 40+ years will install one metal roof, never again. Factor in no seasonal inspections, no algae treatments, no repairs from hail damage (Class 4 rated), and no restaining. The transferable 50-year Guardian Warranty adds resale value. Energy-efficient colors (energy-efficient) with 0.84 emissivity reduce cooling costs during hot spells. Real total cost favors metal when you stay long-term.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Pingree Grove’s climate?
Yes. Pingree Grove averages about 77 cm of snow, 920 mm of rain, roughly 81 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 105 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
