Review: October 9, 2020Completion: June 25, 2020

When the product was supposed to be delivered, we had problems. We had a message from the company saying Monday would be the date. No one appeared. A week later, we were out shopping and they called to tell us they delivered it. The supervisor of the installation waited in the truck for us to get back and open the garage. He had to put it in the garage because the big truck couldn't wait. Overall, we are very satisfied. We had a lot of bushes around the house. I would have thought they would have cleaned a bit better. They cleaned the big things, but they didn't pick up the little things. I'm sure it is hard to do, though.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Sleepy Hollow

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Sleepy Hollow, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Sleepy Hollow.

Will metal roofing hold up through Sleepy Hollow's freeze-thaw cycles?

Aluminum roofing handles freeze-thaw cycling better than asphalt because the material doesn't absorb moisture or become brittle in cold. Your area experiences roughly 81 freeze-thaw days per year, plus about 77 cm of snow. The 3105-H24 aluminum alloy won't crack, curl, or split the way asphalt shingles do when water penetrates and expands. Interlock's panels have been tested to ICC-ES standard ESR-1790 and are installed from coastal homes to Antarctic research stations, so repeated thawing in Kane County is well within their design envelope.

How does a metal roof handle heavy snow buildup and ice dams?

Metal panels shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because the smooth surface reduces friction and allows water to drain. Sleepy Hollow receives about 77 cm of snow annually. The four-way interlocking design prevents water infiltration even when ice dams form at the eaves. Snow guards can be installed where needed to manage sudden slides. Because Interlock panels weigh roughly 0.41 lb/sq ft (the Shingle profile), they're light enough to install over your existing roof with zero structural reinforcement, so no costly frame upgrades are needed to handle accumulated snow loads.

Can I get a metal roof that won't rust in Sleepy Hollow's wet climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Unlike steel roofing, which oxidizes and deteriorates in damp climates, aluminum develops a transparent oxide layer that self-heals when scratched. Your region averages 920 mm of rainfall yearly, and that moisture won't cause the base material to corrode. Interlock panels are coated with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon on both sides, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. Even in salt-air environments (far harsher than inland Kane County), these roofs last decades without rust forming on the aluminum substrate underneath.

What wind speeds can Interlock metal roofing handle in this region?

Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Sleepy Hollow's typical gusts reach about 105 km/h (65 mph), well below that threshold. The four-way interlocking system locks panels together so they function as a continuous membrane rather than individual shingles. This design, validated under ICC-ES ESR-1790, prevents wind from lifting or separating panels during the strong spring and fall storms common to Kane County. That same interlock also keeps rain and debris from working underneath, even when wind-driven.

Will I need to reinforce my roof structure for metal roofing?

No structural reinforcement is needed because Interlock panels are extraordinarily light. The Slate and Shingle profiles weigh about 0.41 lb/sq ft; even the Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates heavy clay or concrete tile, weighs roughly 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than real tile. Your existing roof framing can support the load. In fact, Interlock installs over most existing roofs without removal, which saves money and time. That weight advantage is especially valuable in Sleepy Hollow's climate, where 77 cm of annual snow loading adds significant stress—a metal tile roof combines the aesthetic appeal with none of the structural penalty.

Does hail damage metal roofing, and can I get an insurance discount?

Interlock panels carry the highest impact rating available: UL 2218 Class 4. The warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible aluminum roof survives the severe weather that occurs across Kane County without denting or losing integrity. Many insurers recognize Class 4 impact resistance and offer premium discounts for homes with this protection—ask your agent about it. The durability also means fewer claims over the roof's lifetime, which strengthens your claim for better rates compared to asphalt shingles that dent, crack, or lose granules under impact.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?

Metal roofing requires far less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or tile. Asphalt shingles need moss removal, gutter cleaning from granule shedding, and frequent repairs or replacement every 15-20 years. Wood shakes split and rot, especially in wet climates like Sleepy Hollow, which receives 920 mm of rain annually. Tile can crack and requires remortar work. Interlock's aluminum panels don't rot, split, or shed debris into gutters. You'll rinse off dirt a couple of times a year and keep gutters clear—that's it. The CALGreen-verified design delivers reduced maintenance burden, so your out-of-pocket costs over 30-50 years stay low.

Will a metal roof help with cooling costs?

energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect heat rather than absorbing it like asphalt. Panels in lighter finishes achieve solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council. While Sleepy Hollow's 10-year mean temperature of about 10°C means cooling is less critical than in hot climates, summer peaks can still run warm. A reflective metal roof shaves cooling costs and keeps your attic cooler, reducing AC runtime when temperatures climb. In winter, the light weight means no thermal loss from structural stress, and the 3,037 annual sunshine hours are reflected efficiently rather than absorbed and radiated downward.

Is metal roofing fire-resistant?

Yes. Interlock aluminum panels are non-combustible and carry a Class A fire rating. Aluminum cannot burn, and the Alunar PVDF coating meets stringent flame-spread requirements. This matters for homeowner peace of mind and can lower your fire insurance premium. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms compliance with building codes across North America. If you live near wooded areas in Kane County or have had wildfire concerns, a Class A non-combustible roof eliminates one major risk factor. Metal roofing also won't shed burning embers the way asphalt shingles do, providing better defense in severe weather scenarios.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost?

Metal roofing costs more upfront than asphalt but is genuinely the last roof you'll buy. An asphalt roof in Sleepy Hollow's climate—with 81 freeze-thaw days per year and 920 mm of rain—typically lasts 15-20 years and needs removal and disposal. Interlock's Guardian warranty covers material for life (non-prorated) to the original owner and transfers 50 years to the next owner, so you're insuring against re-roofing costs that would run $10,000-$20,000+ in 20 years. Over a 40-50 year ownership span, the arithmetic favors metal: one installation, no tear-off, no landfill, no reroofing.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Sleepy Hollow’s climate?

Yes. Sleepy Hollow averages about 77 cm of snow, 920 mm of rain, roughly 81 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 105 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
