I told them I was not interested in buying that day. I was just doing my research on what building materials were available so that I would know when I am ready in the future.

Review: October 9, 2020Completion: June 25, 2020

When the product was supposed to be delivered, we had problems. We had a message from the company saying Monday would be the date. No one appeared. A week later, we were out shopping and they called to tell us they delivered it. The supervisor of the installation waited in the truck for us to get back and open the garage. He had to put it in the garage because the big truck couldn't wait. Overall, we are very satisfied. We had a lot of bushes around the house. I would have thought they would have cleaned a bit better. They cleaned the big things, but they didn't pick up the little things. I'm sure it is hard to do, though.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Hampshire

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Hampshire, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Hampshire.

Will a metal roof hold up to Hampshire's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes—aluminum actually thrives through freeze-thaw stress that cracks and splits other materials. Hampshire experiences about 81 freeze-thaw days per year, and that cycling is where asphalt shingles and wood shake fail. Aluminum's non-porous structure means water doesn't penetrate and expand when it freezes. The 3105-H24 alloy used in Interlock panels is engineered for exactly this environment. Your roof won't develop stress fractures, curl, or lose pieces the way asphalt does after decades of expansion and contraction.

How does an Interlock metal roof handle Hampshire's snow and ice buildup?

The smooth, slippery aluminum surface sheds snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt, reducing ice dam formation that leads to water damage. Hampshire averages about 77 centimeters of snow annually, and that weight poses no structural risk—the Shake profile weighs only 0.58 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than traditional tile. Four-way interlocking panels lock panels together so snow creep and wind-driven ice can't separate seams. Optional snow guards are available if you prefer controlled shedding. The payoff: no ice backup into your attic or under shingles.

Can a metal roof rust in Illinois winters with all that rain and snow?

Aluminum cannot rust—it contains no iron, so corrosion simply isn't possible. When the aluminum surface oxidizes, it forms a protective layer that actually heals itself when scratched. That's why Interlock panels have been installed in harsh salt-air environments for decades and still perform flawlessly. Hampshire's 920 mm of annual rainfall is significant, but rain only strengthens aluminum's oxide barrier. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (warranted 30 years against chalking) adds an extra shield, ensuring your roof stays bright and structurally sound through whatever moisture comes.

Is an Interlock metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Absolutely—it's the last roof you'll buy, not the first. Asphalt fails in 15–20 years; you'll replace it multiple times in your lifetime, each time paying tear-off, disposal, and new installation labor. Interlock comes with a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, transferable for 50 years to the next owner. That permanence, combined with zero maintenance costs and energy savings from reflective coatings (energy-efficient options with up to 0.55 solar reflectance), recovers the premium over two decades. Hampshire's 81 annual freeze-thaw cycles and 77 cm of snow accelerate asphalt failure—metal roofing eliminates that cycle.

Will Hampshire's wind gusts damage an interlocking metal roof?

No. Interlock's four-way interlocking panel design is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Hampshire's typical gusts reach about 105 km/h (65 mph), well within that margin. The interlocking geometry distributes wind load across the entire roof assembly rather than concentrating stress on individual fasteners the way shingles do. Over decades, asphalt shingles gradually lift, curl, and detach from wind; interlocked aluminum panels become mechanically stronger as they age. You'll never replace this roof due to wind damage.

Does a metal roof handle hail, and can it lower my insurance costs?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Aluminum's density and flexibility absorb impact energy without cracking or splitting the way slate, tile, or asphalt do. Many insurers offer premium discounts for Class 4-rated roofs because claims are rare; contact your agent with the UL rating to explore savings. Hampshire doesn't experience severe hail frequently, but the protection is comprehensive and often reduces your annual insurance burden enough to offset part of the roof's cost over time.

Can I install an Interlock metal roof over my existing asphalt shingles without reinforcing my roof frame?

Yes—the Slate profile installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft, the Mediterranean Tile at 0.59 lb/sq ft, meaning no structural reinforcement is needed. Asphalt shingles weigh three times more; concrete or clay tile about 25 times more. Most Hampshire homes can accept Interlock panels directly over an existing roof, saving thousands in tear-off labor and landfill costs. A local structural assessment is always recommended, but aluminum's extraordinary lightness is one of its defining advantages. You're installing a permanent roof that actually lightens the load on your home's frame compared to what's already there.

Will an Interlock metal roof reduce my cooling costs in summer?

Yes—energy-efficient color options reflect heat that asphalt absorbs and radiates into your attic. Interlock's reflective coatings achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny) and thermal emissivity of 0.84, both measured by Cool Roof Rating Council standards. Hampshire receives about 3,037 sunshine hours annually, so summer cooling load is real. Reflective aluminum stays 20–40°F cooler than dark asphalt in direct sun, which flows through to lower air-conditioning use. Over a 50-year roof life, energy savings compound—especially valuable as utility costs rise.

What maintenance does an Interlock metal roof actually require?

Virtually none—no pressure washing, no algae treatment, no sealant reapplication. Aluminum won't rot, split, curl, or lose shingles the way asphalt, wood shake, and clay tile do after 81 Hampshire freeze-thaw days and 920 mm of annual rainfall. The 30-year Alunar coating warranty protects against chalking and fading under constant sun exposure. Gutters need cleaning like any roof, but the roof itself remains maintenance-free for life. You're trading decades of ladder work and repair bills for a set-it-and-forget-it installation—a huge quality-of-life gain.

Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Hampshire, and how long have they served the area?

Interlock Metal Roofing, the manufacturer and installer, has served the Hampshire region since 2001. They're not a franchise or third-party contractor—they're the source, which means direct expertise, accountability, and access to all five profile options (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, Mediterranean Tile). The team understands Kane County's climate, local building codes, and the specific installation details required for Hampshire's freeze-thaw and snow conditions. With over two decades of local service, they know how to properly install over existing roofs and deliver on the lifetime warranty promise.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Hampshire’s climate?

Yes. Hampshire averages about 77 cm of snow, 920 mm of rain, roughly 81 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 105 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
