Review: April 12, 2026Completion: May 30, 2016

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!

Review: April 3, 2025Completion: July 31, 2024

Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!

Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!

Review: May 8, 2024Completion: April 29, 2024

We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.

Review: November 30, 2023Completion: October 31, 2023

This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!

I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.

The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Hermosa

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Hermosa, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Hermosa.

How does a metal roof handle heavy snow and ice buildup in Hermosa winters?

Hermosa receives about 73 cm of snow annually, and Interlock's smooth aluminum surface sheds snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt shingles, reducing ice dam risk. The four-way interlocking panels are engineered to handle snow loads without degradation—aluminum's strength-to-weight ratio means the panels won't sag under seasonal accumulation. Unlike wood or slate, aluminum doesn't absorb moisture or freeze internally, so repeated freeze-thaw cycles (about 69 days per year here) won't crack or split the roof. Snow guards are available if you want to slow shedding for safety.

Will freeze-thaw cycles damage an aluminum metal roof over time?

No—Hermosa experiences roughly 69 freeze-thaw days annually, but aluminum's nature makes it immune to the damage that cracks asphalt or splits wood. Unlike materials that absorb water and expand when frozen, roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) remains dimensionally stable through temperature swings. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted 30 years) flexes with the metal and won't embrittle in cold. After nearly 27 years of manufacturing and installations from coastal zones to Antarctica, freeze-thaw performance is proven. Your roof won't deteriorate from the seasonal cycling Hermosa endures.

Can aluminum metal roofing rust or corrode in Illinois weather?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—it forms a transparent oxide layer that actually self-heals when scratched, protecting the metal underneath. With Hermosa's 1024 mm annual rainfall and typical wind gusts to 95 km/h, corrosion resistance is vital; Interlock panels are coated on both sides with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (30-year warranty against chalking and fading per ASTM D4214), adding a second barrier. This dual-protection strategy—non-ferrous core plus premium coating—is why the Guardian Warranty covers rusting as a lifetime-limited benefit for the original owner.

Will a metal roof blow off in Hermosa's wind and storms?

Interlock panels are engineered for durability in windy climates: the four-way mechanical interlocking system and proper installation warrant resistance to wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h). Hermosa's typical gusts reach about 95 km/h, well within safe margins. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025 for IBC/IRC compliance) confirms fastening and sealing specifications that lock panels together, preventing uplift. Correct installation by a qualified local contractor ensures every seam and fastener follows code—the system's strength lies not just in the material but in how each panel interlocks with its neighbors.

What does the warranty actually cover, and how long will the roof really last?

The Guardian Warranty is a non-prorated lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—the defects that end other roofs' lives. Interlock's aluminum and fluorocarbon finish are proven over 27 years in production; the warranty transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, adding significant resale value. In Hermosa's 69 annual freeze-thaw cycles and 1024 mm rainfall, materials that fail typically do so within 20–30 years; a roof with no prorated decline and transferable coverage is your final roof.

How does the cost of a metal roof compare to asphalt shingles over the long run?

Upfront, metal costs more than asphalt; over 50 years, the math reverses. Asphalt roofs typically fail in 15–25 years in climates like Hermosa's (69 freeze-thaw days, ~1024 mm rain annually), forcing tear-off, disposal, and re-roofing—costs you repeat twice or more in a lifetime. Interlock's lifetime limited warranty and proven durability across 27 years of installations mean one purchase, no replacement. Factor in minimal maintenance, potential insurance discounts for Class 4 hail and Class A fire ratings, and energy savings from energy-efficient colors (up to 0.55 solar reflectance), and the total cost of ownership favors metal.

Do I need to reinforce my house structure before installing a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is required. Interlock's aluminum panels are extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile installs at about 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most homes already support asphalt shingles, which weigh far more than metal, so your framing won't feel additional load. This weight advantage lets Interlock install over existing roofs in many cases, saving tear-off labor and landfill waste. An inspection during the quote process confirms your deck condition, but the material itself imposes no structural demands.

What maintenance does a metal roof really need compared to asphalt or wood?

Metal roofs need far less maintenance than asphalt or wood. Hermosa's 1024 mm annual rainfall and 73 cm snow naturally rinse the Alunar-coated surface, which resists algae and mold growth and won't split, curl, or rot. You won't replace shingles, re-seal seams, or repaint like you would with wood shakes. Simple inspections after severe weather (especially hail) and clearing gutters suffice. The CALGreen-verified low-maintenance profile reduces your long-term effort and cost. Over decades, this compounds: one durable roof beats repeated fixes.

Who installs Interlock metal roofs in Hermosa, and what's their track record?

Interlock Metal Roofing serves Cook County and the broader Hermosa region with direct installation expertise since 2001—over 23 years of local experience. The company manufactures panels in Delta, BC, and has deployed systems from coastal salt-air homes to research stations in Antarctica, so Hermosa's climate (gusts to 95 km/h, ~69 freeze-thaw days, 73 cm snow) is well within proven operating conditions. Your local installer understands regional code requirements (ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance), drainage patterns, and proper fastening for Illinois wind and snow loads—critical details that turn a quality product into a reliable, lasting roof.

Is an aluminum metal roof better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Yes—aluminum metal roofs break the asphalt cycle. Interlock panels are roughly 95% recyclable at end of life, whereas asphalt shingles end up in landfills. Over Hermosa's typical 50-year ownership period, you'll replace asphalt roofs multiple times, generating waste; one Interlock roof eliminates that cycle entirely. The material itself, roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), is infinitely recyclable without degradation. Manufacturing durability into a single installation—not repeated replacements every 20 years—is the truest environmental choice. Pair that with energy-efficiency efficiency (reflecting heat that asphalt absorbs) and you've reduced both landfill impact and energy demand.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Hermosa’s climate?

Yes. Hermosa averages about 73 cm of snow, 1024 mm of rain, roughly 69 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 95 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
