What our customers are saying:
We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!
Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!
We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.
This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!
I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.
Scheduling
I think Interlock Roofing could have improved on the timing and having more flexibility in terms of when the project starts.
Communication on delivery and actual start time
The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Lakeview West
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Lakeview West, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Lakeview West.
Will a metal roof handle Chicago-area freeze-thaw cycles better than asphalt or wood?
Aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when exposed to moisture and temperature swings, making it exceptionally durable through Lakeview West's roughly 69 freeze-thaw days per year. Unlike asphalt, which becomes brittle and cracks in repeated freezing, and wood shakes, which split and warp, aluminum simply expands and contracts without material degradation. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 alloy won't absorb water, so ice expansion inside the material—a primary failure mode for other roofing types—cannot occur. This is why Interlock panels have been installed in Antarctic research stations and remain leak-free through far more extreme temperature cycling than Cook County experiences.
How does a metal roof perform under Lakeview West's snow and ice conditions?
Metal roofing sheds snow and ice effectively because its hard surface doesn't trap moisture the way asphalt does. With about 73 cm of snow falling annually here, this matters: snow slides cleanly off the low-friction metal, reducing ice dam formation that blocks gutters and causes leaks. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist 120 mph wind speeds when installed to specification—well above the 95 km/h gusts typical in this region—so heavy, wet snow loads won't compromise the seal. Optional snow guards can be added if you prefer controlled shedding, giving you a choice asphalt doesn't offer.
Does metal roofing rust, and is it safe to install in humid, rainy climates?
No. Aluminum contains no iron, the element that rusts. Instead, it forms a transparent oxide layer that actually self-heals when scratched, continuously protecting the metal underneath. This is why Interlock has been manufacturing roofing since 1998 and installs panels in coastal salt-air homes alongside inland installations—the material doesn't degrade in moisture-heavy or corrosive environments. Combined with the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (warranted 30 years against fading), your roof resists the wet snow melt, rain (about 1024 mm annually in Cook County), and salt-laden air that would cause steel roofing or uncoated metals to fail within decades.
Can a metal roof withstand hail, and will it lower my insurance costs?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This exceptional durability often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts; contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation report. In Lakeview West, where spring storms and occasional severe weather occur, that rating means you're covered for impacts that would crack or perforate asphalt shingles, potentially eliminating decades of claim worry. Many insurers recognize this and adjust premiums accordingly—verify with your policy holder to see what savings apply.
Is a metal roof secure in Chicago-area wind and storm conditions?
The four-way interlocking design locks panels together on all sides, creating a unified system that resists wind uplift far better than overlapping shingles. Interlock panels are warranted to withstand wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification—significantly above the typical 25 km/h daily winds and even the 95 km/h gusts recorded in Cook County. Unlike asphalt shingles, which can lift and separate in strong gusts, aluminum interlocks remain seated because each panel is mechanically fastened and locked to its neighbors. This is why the system performs from coastal hurricane zones to inland severe-weather regions without requiring reinforcement.
Can my house structure support a metal roof, or will I need expensive reinforcement?
No reinforcement needed. The Interlock Tile profile installs at about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—and can be installed directly over most existing roofs, saving tear-off labor and landfill disposal. Even the heavier Shake profile weighs only 0.58 lb/sq ft, so the total weight typically adds less structural load than the asphalt roof already there. This lightweight advantage also simplifies installation and reduces long-term settling stress, particularly important in older Lakeview West homes where adding load-bearing materials might otherwise require foundation or framing upgrades. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms code compliance across residential load conditions.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood shakes?
Metal roofing requires far less maintenance than asphalt or wood. Asphalt shingles require regular inspection and seal-down, wood shakes need annual treatment against rot and splitting, and both shed granules or fibers into gutters annually. Interlock aluminum roofing is virtually maintenance-free: it doesn't crack, curl, rot, or split; the oxide layer self-heals; and rain (about 1024 mm per year here) simply runs off without degrading the material. Gutters stay cleaner since aluminum doesn't shed fragments. The CALGreen-verified design reflects this durability—the only periodic task is checking fasteners after about 69 freeze-thaw cycles annually, a 10-minute inspection that prevents costly leaks.
Is metal roofing worth the cost over 30, 40, or 50 years?
Metal roofing is the last roof you'll typically buy. While the upfront cost exceeds asphalt, the 30-year coating warranty (ASTM D4214), lifetime limited material warranty covering rusting, rotting, cracking, and impact loss, and one-time transferability (50-year term to the next owner) eliminate the replacement cycle. Asphalt lasts 15-20 years and requires tear-off and disposal—a recurring cost and landfill burden. Over a 50-year span, three asphalt roofs cost far more in materials, labor, and environmental disposal than one aluminum roof installed today. Add energy savings from energy-efficiency reflectance (up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance on Aged Copper Penny), reduced maintenance labor, and potential insurance discounts, and the lifetime cost-per-year becomes substantially lower.
What warranty does a metal roof come with, and is it actually transferable?
Interlock's Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's one-time transferable: the next owner receives 50 years of coverage from the completion date, making your roof an asset for future buyers. Unlike prorated warranties that decline over time, this warranty doesn't diminish, reinforcing the roof's durability through the 69 freeze-thaw cycles and 1024 mm of annual rainfall Lakeview West experiences. The coating itself carries a separate 30-year warranty against fading and chalking (ASTM D2244 measured), so aesthetic appeal is protected alongside structural integrity. No other common roofing material offers this level of long-term, transferable security.
Can a metal roof actually save money on cooling costs in the summer?
Yes, energy-efficient Interlock colors with thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, keeping attic temperatures lower and reducing air-conditioning demand. Over Lakeview West's approximately 3094 annual sunshine hours, this reflectance benefit compounds month after month, particularly on south and west-facing slopes. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms measurable solar performance. The cooler attic also extends the life of insulation, wiring, and HVAC equipment by reducing thermal stress. In winter, the slight thermal mass works differently—heat loss through the roof is minimal regardless of material—but summer cooling savings often offset the roofing investment within 5-10 years depending on your utility rates and system efficiency.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Lakeview West’s climate?
Yes. Lakeview West averages about 73 cm of snow, 1024 mm of rain, roughly 69 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 95 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
