Review: April 12, 2026Completion: May 30, 2016

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!

Review: April 3, 2025Completion: July 31, 2024

Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!

Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!

Review: May 8, 2024Completion: April 29, 2024

We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.

Review: November 30, 2023Completion: October 31, 2023

This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!

I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.

The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Sheffield Neighbors

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Sheffield Neighbors, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Sheffield Neighbors.

Will a metal roof hold up through Sheffield Neighbors' freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes—aluminum's oxide layer actually strengthens when scratched and naturally self-heals, so it thrives through the roughly 69 freeze-thaw days your area sees annually. Unlike asphalt shingles that crack and curl as water seeps in and expands, or wood shakes that split, aluminum has no porous material to absorb moisture. The four-way interlocking panels shed water immediately, and because the panels are ~96% lighter than slate or tile, they flex slightly rather than fracture under thermal stress. Your roof will remain watertight year after year.

How does Interlock handle the snow load and ice dams around Sheffield Neighbors?

Interlock's light weight—as little as 0.41 lb per square foot for the Shingle profile—means no structural reinforcement is needed, even with about 73 cm of snow bearing down. The smooth, interlocking design sheds both snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt, which holds moisture and creates ice dam conditions. Unlike traditional roofing materials, the Slate, Cedar Shingle, and Shake profiles shed precipitation instantly rather than trapping it. Optional snow guards can be installed if you want snow to slide off more gradually. The key is that aluminum never becomes brittle or weakened by repeated freeze-thaw cycling, so the roof's integrity survives every winter intact.

Can a metal roof rust in Cook County's wet climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and creates rust stains. Instead, aluminum develops a thin oxide layer that, remarkably, heals itself when scratched or exposed. This is especially valuable in Cook County's roughly 1024 mm of annual rainfall, which would accelerate rust on steel roofing or corrode fasteners. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is also coated on both sides with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. Homes from coastal salt-air environments to Antarctica have used Interlock since 1998 without corrosion—proof that aluminum is the non-rusting choice for any climate.

Are metal roofs safe in high winds? What about Sheffield Neighbors' wind gusts?

Interlock is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification—well above the typical gusts around 95 km/h (59 mph) that Cook County experiences. The four-way interlocking panels mechanically lock together, so wind cannot lift or separate them the way it peels asphalt shingles. Installation over a solid deck with proper fastening creates a unified system that flexes as one rather than as individual pieces. Even in rare severe wind events, the panels stay secure. This engineered resilience is why the UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating covers hail up to 1.5 inches—if it survives hail, it survives gusts.

Does Interlock Metal Roofing qualify for insurance discounts after hail in Illinois?

Interlock achieves the highest impact rating available—UL 2218 Class 4—and the Guardian Warranty explicitly covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many Illinois insurers recognize this as reduced risk and offer lower premiums or discounts for non-combustible metal roofing. Contact your insurance agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 certification to explore whether your policy qualifies for a break. Because aluminum is non-combustible (Class A fire rating available) and doesn't degrade under impact the way asphalt shingles do, insurers often view it favorably. Interlock, installed locally since 2001, can provide documentation to support your claim.

Is metal roofing fire-safe for homes in Sheffield Neighbors?

Interlock aluminum roofing is non-combustible and meets Class A fire classification—the highest rating available—because aluminum itself does not burn. This is a major advantage over asphalt shingles, which are Class C or B rated and contribute to fire spread. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms compliance with the International Building Code and International Residential Code, so your roof will meet or exceed local fire safety codes. In a wildfire or neighbor's fire event, a non-combustible roof significantly reduces your home's ignition risk. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is also non-flammable, adding another layer of protection. This is especially valuable in any community where fire safety codes are tightening.

How much maintenance does Interlock Metal Roofing really require?

Far less than you'd think. Unlike asphalt shingles, which need inspections and spot repairs every few years, Interlock requires no regular maintenance—no sealing, no replacing deteriorated sections, no cleaning gutters clogged with shingle debris. The four-way interlocking panels shed leaves and moisture instantly, and the aluminum never rots, splits, curls, or loses integrity. A rinse every few years after Cook County's roughly 1024 mm of annual rain keeps it looking new; that is optional, not necessary. Wood shakes need annual inspection and costly repairs. Clay tile cracks in freeze-thaw cycles. Interlock's design eliminates those hidden costs. The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited—non-prorated for the original owner—because maintenance-free durability is built in.

Will Interlock Metal Roofing reduce cooling costs in summer?

energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect more solar heat than asphalt absorbs, lowering cooling costs. The Aged Copper Penny finish achieves up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance and 0.84 thermal emissivity—certified by the Cool Roof Rating Council. Over Sheffield Neighbors' approximately 3094 sunshine hours per year, that reflectivity compounds. Dark asphalt roofs absorb heat and raise attic temperatures, forcing air conditioning to work harder. Interlock's reflective surface keeps that heat outside your home. The energy savings vary by color and orientation, but energy-efficiency certification means measurable gains. Combine this with the lightweight design—no need to reinforce structure—and you get cooling efficiency without renovation costs. Check with your utility company; some Illinois programs offer rebates for energy-efficiency metal roofing.

Is Interlock Metal Roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt?

Compare the total cost of ownership, not just the initial price. Asphalt roofing typically lasts 15–20 years and requires replacement—meaning tear-off, disposal, and reinstallation costs every two decades. Interlock, backed by the Guardian Warranty (lifetime limited for the original owner, transferable 50 years to the next owner), is the last roof you'll buy. No mid-life repairs, no re-roofing project stress, no maintenance costs. Over a 50-year ownership horizon, asphalt costs roughly 2–3 complete replacements. The lighter weight of Interlock also eliminates costly structural reinforcement needed for slate or tile. Energy savings from energy-efficiency reflectivity add up over decades. For most homeowners staying 15+ years, Interlock's durability and transferability make it the smarter financial choice—and a significant selling point when you move.

How long does Interlock Metal Roofing installation take, and can it go over my existing roof?

Installation typically takes 1–2 weeks for a standard residential home, depending on roof size and complexity. Interlock can often install directly over your existing asphalt or wood shingles—eliminating expensive tear-off and disposal. Because Interlock is extraordinarily light (0.41 to 0.59 lb per square foot), no structural reinforcement is needed, so labor costs stay low. The four-way interlocking panels install quickly compared to traditional roofing, and the solid deck underneath (required by the Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, and Tile profiles) seals moisture out and reduces noise to asphalt-quiet levels. Your local installer, serving the region since 2001, will assess your roof and provide a timeline. Most homeowners are back to normal within days of completion, with a roof rated to last a lifetime.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Sheffield Neighbors’s climate?

Yes. Sheffield Neighbors averages about 73 cm of snow, 1024 mm of rain, roughly 69 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 95 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
