Review: April 12, 2026Completion: May 30, 2016

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!

Review: April 3, 2025Completion: July 31, 2024

Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!

Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!

Review: May 8, 2024Completion: April 29, 2024

We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.

Review: November 30, 2023Completion: October 31, 2023

This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!

I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.

The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Lakeview East

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Lakeview East, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Lakeview East.

Will a metal roof hold up to Chicago's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw conditions because it has no iron, so it cannot rust even when water sits in crevices during Lakeview East's roughly 69 freeze-thaw days per year. The Alunar coating is bonded to both sides of the panel (ASTM B209 specification), and its self-healing oxide layer prevents the micro-cracking that destroys asphalt and wood over repeated freezing. Your roof expands and contracts with temperature swings, but the four-way interlocking panels are engineered to move without separating or leaking.

How does a metal roof handle heavy snow loads around Lakeview East?

Metal roofing sheds snow far better than asphalt, and Interlock panels are light enough that snow accumulation is never a structural risk. With about 73 centimeters of annual snowfall in Cook County, the smooth-locked seams and low weight—the Slate profile at 0.41 pounds per square foot—mean snow slides cleanly without putting stress on your framing. Unlike heavy slate or tile, which would require structural upgrades to handle the same load, Interlock installs over most existing roofs without reinforcement. Optional snow guards can be added to control runoff if desired.

Can a metal roof survive Lakeview East's wind gusts?

Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 miles per hour when installed to specification, and Cook County's typical gusts around 95 kilometers per hour are well within that envelope. The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors on all four sides, so wind cannot work its way under an edge or corner. That's why the same panels have been installed on coastal salt-air homes and Antarctic research stations—places where wind is unforgiving. Your roof won't shift or lift.

Will heavy rain leak through a metal roof?

The four-way interlocking design plus a solid deck and underlayment create a water-tight barrier, even with Lakeview East's average 1024 millimeters of rain annually. Each panel interlocks to its neighbors on all four sides, meaning water cannot penetrate lateral seams the way it can on open-seam metal roofs or asphalt. The panels sit on a continuous deck, not on exposed purlins, so there are no gaps where wind-driven rain can sneak through. Installed properly, an Interlock roof is as leak-proof as a tile roof, not a traditional metal building roof.

Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofing does?

Aluminum contains no iron—iron is what rusts—so an aluminum roof cannot rust, period. The 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) used in Interlock panels forms a thin oxide layer when exposed to air, and that layer actually heals itself if scratched or damaged. Steel roofing relies on paint and coatings to prevent rust, and once those fail, rust spreads underneath. In Lakeview East's wet climate with roughly 69 freeze-thaw days yearly, that difference compounds over decades. Aluminum's immunity to rust is not a coating benefit; it is a material fact.

Will hail damage a metal roof, and can I get an insurance break?

Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 resistance often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts because insurers recognize that hail claims are unlikely. The aluminum alloy is much harder than asphalt shingles, which dent easily and lose their granules under impact. While hail is not a frequent event in Cook County, the durability and impact rating can lower your premiums and eliminate the risk of needing a re-roof after a single storm.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?

No. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates the look of heavy clay or concrete tile, weighs only 0.59 pounds per square foot—about 96 percent lighter than real tile. This means you can install a Tile roof over most existing structures without reinforcement, something you cannot do with genuine tile. Even the Slate profile at 0.41 pounds per square foot is lighter than an asphalt roof. This light weight saves thousands in framing upgrades and makes installation faster, which matters when you're coordinating around Lakeview East's roughly 3094 sunshine hours per year and want work finished before weather closes in.

How long does a metal roof last, and what does the warranty cover?

Interlock panels are covered by the Guardian Warranty—a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner that covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. That's backed by the fact that Interlock has been manufactured since 1998 and installed in climates far harsher than Lakeview East. The warranty is one-time transferable, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from completion. Because the coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 measured), you're looking at a roof that outlasts the home itself and never needs replacement.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt?

Metal costs more upfront but is the last roof you buy. Asphalt needs replacement every 15 to 25 years; over a 50-year ownership, that means three to four tear-offs and re-roofs, plus landfill disposal of each one. Interlock eliminates that cycle—you install once and it lasts. Factor in the Alunar 30-year coating warranty, the lifetime material warranty, and the fact that aluminum does not degrade the way asphalt does in freeze-thaw conditions (Lakeview East sees about 69 of these annually), and the total cost of ownership heavily favors metal. Insurance discounts from the UL 2218 Class 4 hail rating also offset the initial investment.

Will a metal roof help lower my cooling costs?

energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it the way asphalt does. The Aged Copper Penny finish has initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, Cool Roof Rating Council rated. In a city that averages about 3094 sunshine hours per year, every bit of reflected heat reduces your air conditioning load. Metal roofing also conducts heat away from the attic faster than asphalt, so your cooling system works less hard during summer. Over a 50-year lifespan, the energy savings compound—many homeowners see a measurable reduction in peak-season cooling bills.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Lakeview East’s climate?

Yes. Lakeview East averages about 73 cm of snow, 1024 mm of rain, roughly 69 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 95 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
