What our customers are saying:
We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!
Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!
We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.
This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!
I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.
Scheduling
I think Interlock Roofing could have improved on the timing and having more flexibility in terms of when the project starts.
Communication on delivery and actual start time
The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Boystown
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Boystown, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Boystown.
Will a metal roof handle Chicago's freeze-thaw cycles better than asphalt?
Yes—aluminum's crystalline structure resists the expansion and contraction that cracks asphalt and wood. Boystown experiences roughly 69 freeze-thaw days per year with average temperatures near 10.5°C, making material flexibility critical. Interlock's 3105-H24 aluminum alloy maintains its integrity through repeated thermal cycling without embrittlement, while the self-healing oxide layer protects the base metal from corrosion that can accelerate damage. Asphalt becomes brittle in cold and softens in thaw; aluminum simply expands and contracts elastically, year after year.
How does Interlock handle Boystown's snow load and ice dam risk?
The four-way interlocking design sheds snow efficiently and resists ice dam formation by maintaining thermal stability without trapping moisture like asphalt does. Boystown averages about 73 cm of snow annually across a ~1024 mm annual rainfall, requiring robust shedding geometry. Interlock's smooth, hard-coat finish prevents snow adhesion, and the panels' light weight—as little as 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Shingle profile—allows installation over most existing roofs without structural reinforcement, eliminating the expense and delay of roof tear-offs. Snow guards can be added where desired to manage load transition.
Why does an aluminum roof outperform steel in salt-air or moisture-heavy regions?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; instead, it forms a thin, self-healing oxide layer that seals the surface. Steel roofs corrode from the inside out once the coating is compromised, especially in Cook County's humid climate with frequent freeze-thaw cycles and 73 cm yearly snowfall. Interlock's 3103-H24 aluminum alloy has been installed in coastal salt-air environments and even Antarctic stations, where moisture exposure is extreme. The Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating, applied to both sides of each panel and warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, provides an extra barrier that steel coatings alone cannot match.
Can Interlock metal roofing handle the wind gusts Boystown gets during storms?
Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification, far exceeding Boystown's typical daily-max winds of about 25 km/h and documented gusts near 95 km/h. The mechanical lock between adjacent panels distributes uplift forces across the entire roof surface rather than concentrating stress on fasteners. This design has proven effective across North America and in exposed coastal and Antarctic installations since 1998. Even in severe spring and winter storms common to the Chicago area, the panel interlock prevents the edge-lifting that compromises asphalt shingles and leads to water infiltration.
Will a metal roof reduce hail damage risk and insurance costs?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible aluminum construction often qualifies for insurance premium reductions, depending on your carrier's underwriting. Boystown's climate records show hail risk as part of the region's thunderstorm exposure, making impact resistance a tangible financial advantage. Unlike asphalt, which can be cracked or punctured by smaller hail, aluminum's hardness and flexibility absorb impact without permanent deformation, protecting the roof's lifespan and your coverage.
How long does an Interlock metal roof really last, and what does the warranty cover?
The Guardian Warranty provides a lifetime, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner and a one-time transferable 50-year term for the next owner—a distinction that reflects aluminum's genuine durability. Interlock panels have been manufactured since 1998 and are still performing in installations from that era, with no rust or structural failure. In Boystown's climate of approximately 1024 mm annual rainfall and 69 freeze-thaw days, a roof that won't rot, rust, crack, or curl justifies the initial investment by eliminating mid-life tear-offs. This is the last roof most homeowners will install.
What maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or tile?
Metal roofs require minimal upkeep—occasional gutter cleaning and inspection—versus asphalt's biennial sealing and tile's grout and cracking repairs. Boystown's ~3094 annual sunshine hours and frequent rainfall mean organic growth on asphalt is predictable, while metal's hard, smooth finish resists algae and moss. The Alunar® PVDF coating, verified by CALGreen as reducing maintenance needs, won't chalk, fade, or degrade significantly across the roof's life. Homeowners eliminate the cost of intermediate repairs, sealant reapplication, and eventual tear-off disposal—saving hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars over ownership.
Can reflective metal roofing reduce cooling costs in summer?
energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55, reflecting summer heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your home. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms measurable cooling savings in climates with significant sunshine. Boystown receives approximately 3094 hours of annual sunshine, making summer heat rejection valuable during the region's humid warm season. Unlike asphalt's heat-trapping dark surface, reflective aluminum reduces attic and interior temperatures, lowering air-conditioning runtime and energy bills—a benefit that compounds over decades while the roof remains intact.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure to install metal tile or slate roofing?
No—Interlock metal tile is approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, installing at roughly 0.59 lb/sq ft versus 12–15 lb/sq ft for traditional tile. This dramatic weight difference means no structural reinforcement is required, and installation can proceed directly over most existing roof decks, eliminating costly framing upgrades. The Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles are even lighter at 0.41–0.58 lb/sq ft. For Boystown homeowners, this eliminates the primary expense barrier to high-end architectural looks—you gain the appearance of premium materials without engineering costs, construction delays, or structural stress.
What's the installation timeline for a metal roof, and can it go over my existing roof?
Interlock panels typically install in days rather than weeks, and the light weight allows direct installation over most existing asphalt or wood shingles—no costly tear-off required. The four-way interlock system enables fast, aligned panel placement with minimal fastener exposure. Boystown's average annual rainfall of 1024 mm and seasonal snow of 73 cm make a quick installation schedule attractive; there's less weather exposure during the work window. Solid deck and underlayment installation keeps interior noise minimal during rain, matching asphalt's quiet performance. Your local Interlock installer, serving the region since 2001, can assess your specific roof and provide a timeline tailored to your home's structure and existing coverage.
