Review: April 12, 2026Completion: May 30, 2016

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!

Review: April 3, 2025Completion: July 31, 2024

Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!

Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!

Review: May 8, 2024Completion: April 29, 2024

We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.

Review: November 30, 2023Completion: October 31, 2023

This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!

I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.

The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Edgewater

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Edgewater, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Edgewater.

Will a metal roof hold up to Chicago's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes. Aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but its oxide layer self-heals after expansion—it doesn't crack or split the way asphalt, wood, or slate does. Edgewater sees about 69 freeze-thaw days per year across the 10-year climate normal. The four-way interlocking panels allow micro-movement without stress concentration. Aluminum also has no water absorption, so ice buildup and thaw damage that plague asphalt roofs don't apply here. The material has installed successfully from coastal homes to Antarctic research stations, all under extreme thermal cycling.

How does Interlock handle heavy snow loads in Edgewater?

The roof handles snow weight through the four-way interlocking panel design, not through bulk. Edgewater receives about 73 cm of snow annually. Interlock's Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft—so light it needs no structural reinforcement—yet the panels lock together tightly enough that snow load distributes across the entire system rather than concentrating at seams or fasteners. You can add snow guards if desired for aesthetic or avalanche-prevention reasons, but the underlying roof itself won't sag or buckle under typical Cook County snow depths.

Does Edgewater's 1000 mm of annual rain cause leaks in metal roofing?

No. Metal roofs are designed to shed water, not absorb it—the opposite problem of asphalt. Edgewater averages about 1024 mm of rainfall yearly. Interlock's four-way interlocking seams overlap directionally so water runs down and out; fasteners are concealed beneath the interlocking face, eliminating the leak points that pierce-fastened asphalt roofs create. Installation over a solid deck with ICC-ES ESR-1790-compliant underlayment ensures water never reaches the structure. Many homeowners report their first metal roof experience is surprise at how cleanly rain sheds—no pooling, no microbial growth, no water damage.

Can aluminum metal roofing rust in Edgewater's climate?

No—aluminum is iron-free, so rust is chemically impossible. Edgewater sits inland in Cook County, not on salt-spray coasts, so corrosion risk is already minimal. Aluminum's self-healing oxide layer protects even when scratched; once scratched, the aluminum chemically reforms a protective barrier. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of every panel—extra insurance—and carries a 30-year warranty against fading and chalking per ASTM standards. Other metal roofs made from steel require paint-over-primer and still rust at fasteners; Interlock's aluminum design eliminates that failure mode entirely.

Will an Edgewater metal roof blow off in Lake Michigan wind gusts?

Interlock roofs are warranted to resist wind up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed per spec. Edgewater's typical wind gusts reach about 95 km/h—well within that safety margin. The four-way interlocking panel design locks each panel to its neighbors on all four edges so wind can't peel a single panel free; it would have to lift the entire roof system as one piece. UL 2218 Class 4 hail-impact testing requires panels to survive extreme mechanical shock, a stress similar to wind uplift. That same durability standard confirms the fastening system's integrity.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for metal shingles?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs just 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than the concrete or clay tile it replicates. Even a 100-year-old wood-frame house in Edgewater can support that load without modification; most existing roofs can accept the retrofit directly. This light weight also means installation is faster and safer—roofers handle panels by hand rather than requiring lifting equipment. Compare that to slate or real tile, which demands costly structural engineering before installation even begins. Aluminum's extreme lightness is one reason it installs where those materials cannot.

Can a UL 2218 Class 4 metal roof lower my Edgewater insurance rates?

Many insurers offer discounts for UL 2218 Class 4 roofing—the highest impact rating available—though discount amounts vary by policy and carrier. Interlock's panels achieve Class 4 and are even warranted against perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches, a rarity in roofing. Ask your agent whether your homeowners policy offers a discount for non-combustible, Class A fire-rated roofing (Interlock qualifies on both counts; see ICC-ES ESR-1790). Some insurers incentivize metal roofs because they reduce wind and hail claims over a 50+ year lifespan. Edgewater's climate doesn't emphasize hail the way Midwest plains do, but the Class 4 rating is still valuable if severe weather does occur.

What does Interlock's lifetime warranty actually cover?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. No rust clause works here because aluminum cannot rust; the no-rot clause covers wood-based competitors. The warranty is transferable once, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from completion. This one-transfer feature boosts resale appeal in Edgewater's market. Most asphalt warranties expire at 20-25 years and are prorated (declining coverage); Interlock's aluminum core doesn't degrade, so coverage stays strong through decades. The Guardian's scope is printed; read it against any competitor's fine print.

Do reflective metal roofs cut cooling costs in Edgewater's climate?

Yes, though savings are modest in Edgewater's cool climate. energy-efficient Interlock colors (such as Aged Copper Penny) achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning they reflect heat rather than absorb it the way asphalt does. Edgewater averages about 3094 sunshine hours per year and a mean temperature of 10.5°C—not a hot climate, but cooling season still matters. Over 50 years, even 3–5% reduced cooling load compounds. The real energy win is longevity: one Interlock roof replaces two asphalt roofs over the same timeframe, eliminating the embodied energy cost of tear-off, disposal, and manufacturing. published solar-reflectance listing confirms reflectance measured to Cool Roof Rating Council standards.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt?

Interlock roofs require virtually no maintenance—no annual inspections, no sealing, no repairs to failed patches. Asphalt deteriorates visibly within 10–15 years: granules shed, seams fail, and curling spreads. Wood-shake and tile roofs need periodic cleaning, treatment, or replacement of cracked units. Aluminum doesn't degrade, chalk, curl, or harbor moss in Edgewater's 1024 mm annual rainfall. Leaves and debris can be cleared if desired, but that's housekeeping, not roof maintenance. The CALGreen-verified reduced-maintenance status reflects real-world durability: no fastener corrosion, no sealant breakdown, no seasonal inspections. This frees your maintenance budget and your schedule for decades.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Edgewater’s climate?

Yes. Edgewater averages about 73 cm of snow, 1024 mm of rain, roughly 69 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 95 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
