| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!
Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!
We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.
This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!
I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.
Scheduling
I think Interlock Roofing could have improved on the timing and having more flexibility in terms of when the project starts.
Communication on delivery and actual start time
The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Ravenswood Manor
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Ravenswood Manor, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Ravenswood Manor.
Will a metal roof handle Illinois freeze-thaw cycles better than asphalt?
Yes. Aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched, and the material experiences no embrittlement from Ravenswood Manor's approximately 69 freeze-thaw days per year. Asphalt hardens and cracks in freeze-thaw stress; aluminum expands and contracts uniformly without degradation. The four-way interlocking panels accommodate thermal movement while maintaining their seal, so repeated winter–spring cycles won't compromise the roof's integrity the way they degrade traditional shingles over a 15–20 year lifespan.
How does metal roofing handle heavy snow and ice dams in Cook County winters?
Interlock's four-way interlocking panels shed snow and ice more readily than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface resists ice adhesion. Ravenswood Manor receives about 73 cm of snow annually; the lightweight aluminum design—at 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile—adds negligible load compared to traditional tile or slate. Snow guards are available if you prefer to retain snow for insulation; the warranty covers wind gusts up to 120 mph, protecting against the roughly 95 km/h gusts typical here. Proper installation includes ventilation and underlayment to prevent ice dams.
Can an aluminum metal roof rust in the Chicago area?
Aluminum roofing cannot rust because the material contains no iron. Cook County's industrial air and occasional salt-laden moisture from Lake Michigan present corrosion risks to steel roofing; aluminum instead develops a protective oxide layer that self-heals when scratched. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum (ASTM B209) finished with Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating on both sides, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. This dual-side protection is especially critical in coastal and salt-air environments; Interlock panels have been installed from Pacific coast homes to Antarctic research stations without rust failure.
Does a metal roof help with hail damage and insurance premiums in Illinois?
Absolutely. Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many Illinois insurers offer premium discounts for non-combustible Class A roofs or impact-rated materials; contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation report for underwriting review. This resilience matters in Cook County, where spring and summer storms carry hail risk. Over a 50-year roof lifespan, impact resistance preserves your coverage and avoids deductible claims asphalt cannot match.
Is metal roofing safe in Illinois wind and storm season?
Yes. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Ravenswood Manor's typical daily-maximum winds average about 25 km/h with gusts reaching 95 km/h; Interlock panels far exceed these conditions. The interlocking system distributes wind uplift forces across the entire roof assembly, unlike asphalt shingles that tear and lift individually. Combined with proper fastening per ICC-ES ESR-1790 code compliance, the system has been installed and tested in hurricane and coastal gale-force environments. Your roof will outlast the wind threats this region experiences.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need compared to asphalt?
Metal roofing requires far less maintenance than asphalt or wood shakes. Asphalt shingles need annual inspection, moss/algae treatment, and gutter clearing every 6 months in rainy climates like Ravenswood Manor (about 1024 mm annual precipitation). Interlock's smooth aluminum surface and interlocking design resist moss, mold, and debris accumulation; gutters stay clearer because leaves slide off faster. Wood shakes demand costly repairs from splitting and cupping; cedar shake roofs last 20–30 years with heavy maintenance. Interlock's CALGreen-verified design reduces maintenance needs significantly. Plan for occasional gutter and valley cleaning—that's it. The Guardian Warranty covers splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance, eliminating surprise repair bills.
What's the actual lifespan and warranty coverage on an Interlock metal roof?
Interlock backs every roof with The Guardian—a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner. It covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no sunset clause. When you sell, the warranty transfers once to the next owner with a 50-year term from completion—making it the only roof you'll ever install. This contrasts sharply with asphalt (15–20 years, fully prorated after year 5) or wood shakes (25–30 years, constant repairs). Over 70 years of potential occupancy in Ravenswood Manor, one Interlock roof eliminates the cost and landfill impact of multiple roof replacements.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over the life of the house?
Comparing lifecycle cost, metal roofing is the last roof you buy. Asphalt costs roughly 40–50% less initially but requires replacement every 15–20 years; over 60 years, you install 3–4 asphalt roofs. Interlock's upfront premium is recouped through zero replacement cycles, avoided maintenance labor, potential insurance discounts, energy savings from energy-efficient reflective coatings (up to 0.55 solar reflectance), and the transferable 50-year warranty that adds resale value. In Ravenswood Manor's 3094 annual sunshine hours, Cool Roof Rating Council-certified colors reduce cooling load in summer. Financing the difference over a 30-year mortgage spreads cost across the roof's lifespan, making monthly impact negligible against 50+ years of no reroof.
Can an Interlock metal roof be installed over my existing shingles without tearing off?
Yes. Interlock's extraordinary light weight—the Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft, Cedar Shingle and Shake around 0.58, Mediterranean Tile at 0.59 lb/sq ft—allows installation over existing asphalt in most cases. One asphalt shingle layer plus Interlock panels adds negligible structural load; no reinforcement is required. The local Interlock Metal Roofing team, serving the region since 2001, inspects your existing roof's condition and deck framing to confirm the installation method. Tear-off is necessary only if the existing roof is severely damaged or if local codes require it. Installing over existing materials cuts labor cost and eliminates the 1024 mm annual rainfall exposure during removal. The installation process typically takes 3–7 days depending on roof complexity and weather.
Is metal roofing really more environmentally responsible than asphalt?
Definitively yes. Interlock's aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable; when a roof finally needs replacement in 50+ years, the panels return to the aluminum supply stream indefinitely. Asphalt roofing, by contrast, ends in landfills—millions of tons annually in North America—because the petroleum-based material cannot be recycled at scale. Over Ravenswood Manor's 1024 mm annual rainfall and typical roof lifespan, one Interlock installation eliminates two or three asphalt tear-offs to landfill. The aluminum core is durable enough that scrap panels are melted into beverage cans, automotive parts, or new roofing stock. Choosing metal roofing breaks the extract-install-landfill cycle, reducing your home's embodied carbon footprint for five decades.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Ravenswood Manor’s climate?
Yes. Ravenswood Manor averages about 73 cm of snow, 1024 mm of rain, roughly 69 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 95 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
