Review: April 12, 2026Completion: May 30, 2016

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!

Review: April 3, 2025Completion: July 31, 2024

Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!

Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!

Review: May 8, 2024Completion: April 29, 2024

We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.

Review: November 30, 2023Completion: October 31, 2023

This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!

I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.

The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Irving Park

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Irving Park, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Irving Park.

Does metal roofing handle heavy snow and ice dams in Illinois winters?

Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are engineered to shed snow and ice safely without pooling water that causes dams. Irving Park receives about 73 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 69 freeze-thaw cycles per year, which is exactly where metal roofing excels: the smooth, non-porous surface prevents ice adhesion and water infiltration, while the lightweight design (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural strain from accumulated snow load. The panels lock together so tightly that wind gusts up to 95 km/h cannot lift them, keeping your roof intact through winter weather swings.

Will a metal roof crack from Chicago's freeze-thaw cycles?

Aluminum will not crack because it expands and contracts uniformly without degrading—no splitting, no cracking, ever. Traditional roofing materials like asphalt and wood fail under the 69 annual freeze-thaw days Irving Park experiences; they absorb water, fracture, and deteriorate. Interlock's 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is designed for exactly this stress. The oxide layer that naturally forms on aluminum is self-healing when scratched, so winter salt spray and road grit won't compromise it. The Guardian Warranty covers cracking and splitting for the lifetime of the original owner—a promise no asphalt roof can match.

Can a metal roof rust in a wet Illinois climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; what happens instead is the formation of an aluminum oxide layer that protects against corrosion and actually self-repairs when scratched. Irving Park receives about 1024 mm of rain per year and winter brings salt-treated roads and air moisture—conditions that would corrode steel roofs. Interlock applies Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (ASTM D4214 rated) to both sides of every panel, adding 30-year chalking and fading protection. Steel roofing rusts in this climate; aluminum grows stronger with age. That's why Interlock has installed roofs from salt-air coastal homes to Antarctic research stations since 1998.

What's the hail rating for metal roofing, and does it lower insurance costs?

Interlock metal roofing carries the highest hail impact rating available: UL 2218 Class 4, which means it withstands hailstones up to 1.5 inches without perforation or permanent damage. Insurance companies recognize this durability—many offer discounts on homes with Class 4 roofing because claims are rare. While hail events don't occur every year in Irving Park, the region's exposure to severe weather means this rating is genuine protection. Unlike asphalt shingles or wood, which dent and puncture easily, Interlock's aluminum panels bounce back. The Guardian Warranty explicitly covers perforation, so you're protected from the rare impact that might occur over 69 annual freeze-thaw cycles.

Is a metal tile roof too heavy for my home's frame?

Not at all—Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This means zero structural reinforcement is needed, and in most cases you can install it directly over your existing roof, avoiding costly tear-off and disposal. Traditional tile roofing requires foundation and framing upgrades; metal tile does not. Irving Park homes built across many decades can safely accommodate Interlock without engineering work. The lightweight design is one reason it installs faster and costs less upfront. You get the architectural beauty of tile with the structural simplicity of metal—and it will never develop cracks or require repair from settlement or freeze-thaw stress like real tile does.

Will my metal roof blow off in Chicago-area wind storms?

No—Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Irving Park's typical gusts reach 95 km/h, well below that threshold. The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors on all four sides, creating a unified grid that distributes wind load across the entire roof rather than letting individual panels lift. This is why metal roofing is the standard in hurricane and tornado zones. The Guardian Warranty covers wind damage, and the ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790, reissued 2025) certifies the panels under IBC and IRC building codes. Installation by Interlock Metal Roofing, serving the region since 2001, ensures your panels meet all local wind requirements.

Does metal roofing save money on summer cooling in Illinois?

Yes—energy-efficient Interlock colors with thermal emissivity of 0.84 reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it like asphalt does. Aged Copper Penny profiles achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55, meaning they bounce away more of the sun's energy before it enters your home. Over an Illinois summer with roughly 3094 sunshine hours annually, that reflection reduces cooling load measurably. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms these values. Metal roofs stay cooler than asphalt, which can reach 70°C+ on sunny days. Combined with the roof's longevity (no replacement for decades), the energy savings compound over time—it's one of several ways metal roofing lowers your total cost of ownership compared to asphalt shingles that require replacement every 15–20 years.

How long will a metal roof last, and what does the warranty cover?

Interlock metal roofing lasts for the life of your home—50+ years is routine, and some installations from the late 1990s are still performing flawlessly. The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable: the next owner receives 50 years of coverage from completion. No asphalt roof offers this. Manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC, Interlock has proven its durability across salt-air coasts, freeze-thaw climates (Irving Park sees 69 such cycles annually), and extreme weather zones. The aluminum won't degrade; the 30-year-warranted Alunar coating resists chalking and fading. This is genuinely the last roof you'll buy.

Is metal roofing fire-safe for homes in residential neighborhoods?

Yes—Interlock aluminum roofing achieves Class A fire rating (non-combustible) and is ICC-ES evaluated (ESR-1790) for compliance with IBC/IRC building codes. Aluminum itself will not burn; it's inert. This matters in any neighborhood, and CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance liability. Unlike wood shakes or asphalt (which are combustible), metal roofing does not spread fire or release toxic gases when exposed to heat. Insurance companies and building inspectors recognize this superior fire safety. Over 69 annual freeze-thaw days in Irving Park, you won't face the cracking and water intrusion that can create fire hazards in wood or asphalt roofs. The non-combustible aluminum profile, combined with proper installation by a local specialist, gives you peace of mind and may lower your homeowner's insurance premium.

How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need?

Very little—Interlock metal roofing requires no roof maintenance beyond occasional gutter cleaning, just like asphalt shingles. Unlike wood shakes (which need sealing and are prone to rot), concrete or clay tile (which crack and require replacement), or asphalt (which deteriorates in the 69 freeze-thaw cycles Irving Park endures annually), aluminum oxide layer self-heals and never rots, splits, or curls. The 30-year Alunar fluorocarbon finish on both sides of the panel resists chalking and fading in the region's 1024 mm annual rainfall and 3094 sunshine hours. Heavy maintenance is the hidden cost of traditional roofing: asphalt shingles need repairs every few years; tile requires re-grouting. Metal requires none of that. CALGreen certification confirms reduced maintenance burden—saving you time and money over decades.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Irving Park’s climate?

Yes. Irving Park averages about 73 cm of snow, 1024 mm of rain, roughly 69 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 95 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
