Review: April 12, 2026Completion: May 30, 2016

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!

Review: April 3, 2025Completion: July 31, 2024

Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!

Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!

Review: May 8, 2024Completion: April 29, 2024

We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.

Review: November 30, 2023Completion: October 31, 2023

This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!

I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.

The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Kilbourn Park

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Kilbourn Park, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Kilbourn Park.

Does metal roofing handle heavy snow and ice in Illinois winters?

Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice reliably even under Kilbourn Park's annual 73 cm snowfall and frequent freeze-thaw cycling (about 69 days per year). The ultra-lightweight design (the Shake profile weighs only 0.58 lb/sq ft) eliminates structural stress that causes ice dams on heavier roofs. Snow guards are available if you want to control cascading snow. The sealed panel joints and sloped profiles direct melt safely into gutters without pooling or backing up.

Will a metal roof rust in Illinois weather?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), which forms a self-healing oxide layer when exposed to air. Even if scratched, the layer reforms within weeks—a key advantage in Cook County's 1024 mm annual rainfall and variable humidity. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating applied to both sides adds 30-year protection against fading and chalking. Unlike steel roofing, aluminum roofs don't require ongoing rust monitoring or touch-up paint.

How does aluminum roofing survive freeze-thaw cycles?

Aluminum's crystalline structure resists freeze-thaw damage because it has no moisture-absorbing substrate; the metal itself doesn't swell or contract with freezing water. Kilbourn Park averages about 69 freeze-thaw days annually—enough to damage asphalt and wood shingles—but Interlock's aluminum panels absorb no water and remain dimensionally stable. The four-way interlocking seams accommodate thermal expansion without cracking. Combined with the 30-year coating warranty against splitting and cracking, this design ensures durability through decades of Illinois winter cycles.

Can an aluminum metal roof withstand Illinois wind gusts?

Yes. The four-way interlocking design and mechanical fastening system are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h). Kilbourn Park's typical gusts reach about 95 km/h, so Interlock exceeds local conditions by a significant margin. Each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides, preventing uplift even in the strongest regional storms. The design meets ICC-ES ESR-1790 code evaluation (reissued 2025) for structural wind resistance. This interlocking redundancy—rather than relying on fasteners alone—is why metal roofing insurance companies often recognize it as a wind-resistant choice.

Does hail damage metal roofs, and can it lower insurance costs?

Interlock aluminum roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. The warranty's non-prorated structure means you don't pay a deductible for a covered claim. Many homeowners in hail-prone regions see lower insurance premiums with Class 4 rated roofing because it reduces claim frequency. While Kilbourn Park isn't historically a hail hotspot, the Class 4 rating provides comprehensive impact protection and may qualify you for carrier discounts; contact your insurer for specific savings.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or tile?

Aluminum roofing requires significantly less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or tile. There's no granule loss, no moss or algae growth on non-porous aluminum, no cracked or curled shingles to replace, and no wood rot—eliminating asphalt's routine inspections and spot repairs. Interlock's design is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. In Kilbourn Park's 1024 mm wet climate, this matters: asphalt and wood degrade faster, while aluminum's sealed joints and self-protecting oxide layer remain stable. Occasional gutter cleaning and visual inspection are sufficient. No power washing or coating reapplication ever needed.

Do metal roofing colors really lower cooling costs?

energy-efficient Interlock colors have thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (measured in Aged Copper Penny)—meaning they reflect heat that dark asphalt absorbs. During Kilbourn Park's 3094 annual sunshine hours, reflective metal roofing stays cooler, reducing air-conditioning runtime and demand charges. The Cool Roof Rating Council rates these finishes. While Illinois winters are mild (mean 10.5°C), the energy benefit accumulates through spring and fall when cooling is intermittent. Combined with the metal's low thermal mass, you experience faster interior temperature adjustment and lower seasonal energy use versus asphalt.

Can you install a metal roof over my existing asphalt shingles?

Yes. Interlock's extraordinary light weight—the Slate profile at about 0.41 lb/sq ft and the Tile at ~0.59 lb/sq ft—allows installation over most existing roofs without structural reinforcement. Contractors install a substrate and underlayment layer directly over your current shingles, securing new panels to the structural deck. This avoids tear-off costs and landfill waste. The installation typically takes 2–4 days depending on roof size and complexity. Your local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (serving the region since 2001), will conduct a structural survey to confirm your deck's condition and provide a timeline.

Is metal roofing actually more eco-friendly than asphalt?

Yes. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life; an Interlock roof can be melted down and reformed endlessly with no degradation. Asphalt shingles end in landfills and release volatile organics as they break down. Over three asphalt re-roofs in 50 years, you generate tons of landfill waste; Interlock generates none. The lightweight aluminum also reduces manufacturing and transportation carbon compared to concrete or clay tile. At recycling, your old roof becomes new cans, automotive parts, or building materials. Interlock's durability (lifetime warranty, 50-year transfer) extends the product's useful life—the most powerful sustainability metric.

Yes. Kilbourn Park averages about 73 cm of snow, 1024 mm of rain, roughly 69 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 95 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
