Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Avondale, Illinois
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!
Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!
We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.
This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!
I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.
Scheduling
I think Interlock Roofing could have improved on the timing and having more flexibility in terms of when the project starts.
Communication on delivery and actual start time
The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Avondale
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Avondale, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Avondale.
Will a metal roof handle Avondale's freeze-thaw cycles without damage?
Yes—aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but its non-corrosive nature means it won't crack or degrade like asphalt or wood shingles do. Cook County experiences about 69 freeze-thaw days annually, a cycle that degrades traditional materials. Interlock's 3105-H24 aluminum alloy maintains structural integrity through repeated freezing; the self-healing oxide layer prevents any microscopic damage from becoming corrosion. Combined with the solid deck and underlayment installation method, you're protected against the seasonal stress that shortens asphalt roof life by years.
How does Interlock handle the 73 cm of snow Avondale gets each winter?
Interlock metal roofing sheds snow naturally due to its smooth, sloped profile and lightweight construction, which means your home's frame isn't strained by accumulation. At roughly 0.41 to 0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile, even heavy snow loads pose no structural concern—a concrete tile roof weighs about 96% more. The four-way interlocking seams prevent water infiltration if ice dams form, and optional snow guards can be installed to control shedding safely. Your roof will handle Avondale winters without the maintenance burden of clearing asphalt shingles or the risk of ice backup damage.
Are four-way interlocking panels strong enough for Cook County's wind gusts?
Yes—Interlock's interlocking system is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, well above Avondale's typical gust peak of 95 km/h (59 mph). The four-way interlocking design means each panel locks to its neighbors in all directions, distributing wind load across the entire roof assembly rather than relying on fasteners alone. This engineering, combined with ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 compliance, gives you assurance that seasonal storms and occasional gusts won't lift or separate panels. The warranty covers wind resistance when installed to specification—a level of protection asphalt shingles simply cannot match.
Does a metal roof help with insurance or hail damage claims?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurance carriers recognize this non-combustible aluminum construction and Class A fire rating as risk reducers and may offer premium discounts; contact your agent with the product specs. Unlike asphalt, which dents and degrades under hail impact, aluminum's hardness and flexibility mean it absorbs impact without permanent loss of performance. For homeowners in Cook County facing occasional severe weather, this rating translates to fewer claim hassles and longer-term cost savings.
Can aluminum roofing rust in Avondale's wet climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that creates rust in steel. Instead, aluminum naturally forms a protective oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, keeping moisture away from the metal itself. Avondale's 1024 mm annual rainfall and freeze-thaw cycle would accelerate rust in steel roofs, but Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) stays intact indefinitely. The Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, adds a second protective barrier applied to both panel sides. This dual protection means your roof won't corrode, weaken, or require rust-prevention maintenance.
Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal roof?
No reinforcement needed. Interlock's Tile profile weighs about 96% less than concrete or clay tile—roughly 0.59 lb/sq ft—so it installs safely over most existing roof structures without modification. This lightweight advantage matters in older Avondale homes where heavy slate or tile would require costly structural work. Because panels are so light, installation happens faster, labor costs stay reasonable, and you can often re-roof directly over your existing asphalt without tearing it off. The four-way interlocking system distributes weight evenly, and ICC-ES ESR-1790 confirms compliance with IBC and IRC structural codes for your region.
How much maintenance does an Interlock metal roof really need?
Virtually none compared to asphalt, wood, or tile. Aluminum doesn't rot, split, curl, or degrade—the self-healing oxide layer handles UV exposure and moisture year-round. Avondale's 3094 annual sunshine hours won't fade your roof thanks to the 30-year Alunar® PVDF coating warranty (tested to ASTM D4214 and D2244 standards). You won't need to clear moss, replace damaged shingles, or seal cracks. Annual inspection for debris is optional; light rain handles cleaning automatically. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance requirements compared to traditional roofing. This means lower upkeep costs and genuine peace of mind over decades.
Will an Interlock roof keep my home cooler in summer?
Yes—energy-efficient colors reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, lowering cooling costs. Interlock's thermal emissivity reaches 0.84, and initial solar reflectance can reach 0.55 in select finishes like Aged Copper Penny, both Cool Roof Rating Council verified. While Avondale averages only about 3094 sunshine hours annually, those high-intensity summer days still generate significant cooling demand; a reflective roof directly reduces air-conditioning runtime and expense. The lightweight aluminum panel won't add heat mass to your attic the way concrete tile does. Over a 30+ year roof life, energy savings compound into thousands of dollars, plus the satisfaction of lower carbon emissions.
What makes the Guardian Warranty different from typical roof warranties?
The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner—meaning you're covered for rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no dollar or time limit, no deductible step-down. It's transferable once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, which adds real resale value. Most asphalt warranties are prorated (coverage decreases yearly), and cedar or slate warranties cover only specific defects. Interlock's promise reflects the product's durability: aluminum doesn't rust, doesn't rot, and manufactured since 1998 from Delta, BC to Antarctic research stations proves longevity under extreme conditions. For Avondale homeowners, this is the last roof you'll buy.
How long does installation take, and can you install over my old roof?
Installation typically completes in 2–5 days depending on roof complexity, much faster than asphalt re-roofing. Yes, Interlock installs over most existing roofs thanks to its ultralight weight—no tearoff, no landfill trip, no weeks of debris. Your roofer applies the solid deck and underlayment over the old shingles, then fastens and interlocks the new panels. This method reduces labor cost and installation disruption. For Avondale homes with asphalt roofs reaching end-of-life, covering them with Interlock eliminates the environmental impact of landfill disposal while maintaining your home's structure and timeline. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms this installation method meets all regional building codes.
