Review: April 12, 2026Completion: May 30, 2016

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!

Review: April 3, 2025Completion: July 31, 2024

Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!

Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!

Review: May 8, 2024Completion: April 29, 2024

We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.

Review: November 30, 2023Completion: October 31, 2023

This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!

I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.

The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Lake View

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Lake View, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Lake View.

Will a metal roof handle Chicago's freeze-thaw winters better than asphalt?

Yes—aluminum's non-porous structure resists the damage that freeze-thaw cycling inflicts on asphalt. Lake View experiences about 69 freeze-thaw days per year, where moisture trapped in asphalt expands and contracts, opening cracks that lead to leaks within 5–10 years. Aluminum has no pores to absorb water, so it simply sheds precipitation. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is rated for these temperature swings (ASTM D4214 testing), and the self-healing oxide layer under the paint prevents corrosion even when the coating is scratched—a real advantage over the next 10+ cm of seasonal snow melt that runs off and refreezes.

Do I need special snow guards, or will a metal roof shed snow safely?

Metal roofs shed snow naturally, but in Lake View's ~73 cm annual snowfall, roof pitch and local codes determine whether snow guards are needed—your installer can advise. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels provide solid attachment points for guards if required, and the lightweight design (Slate profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement is needed even if snow accumulates temporarily. Unlike heavy slate or tile, you're not fighting gravity or straining your framing. Gutters should still be cleared before the next freeze to prevent ice dams, and the smooth metal surface allows meltwater from about 1024 mm of annual rain and snow to run freely rather than pool.

Why won't an aluminum metal roof rust like a steel one in Lake View's salty winters?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element required for rust formation. Instead, a microscopically thin oxide layer forms naturally on aluminum's surface, and when scratched (say, during installation or by a branch), that oxide layer self-heals within hours. This matters in Lake View's cold, wet climate: salt from winter road treatments and repeated wet-freeze cycles that would attack steel roofs leave aluminum unaffected. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (applied to both panel sides for extra protection) is then warranted 30 years against chalking, giving you two independent barriers against corrosion—the aluminum itself and the premium topcoat.

Can a metal roof survive Lake View's winter wind gusts?

Yes. Lake View's typical wind gusts reach about 95 km/h, and Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification—a 100+ percent safety margin. The interlocking design means each panel is mechanically locked on all four sides to its neighbors, so there's no single point of failure. Wind uplift, the real risk in Chicago's exposure, can't separate a properly fastened panel from the deck. During the 25 km/h average winds that Lake View experiences, the roof works silently and invisibly, with no flutter or movement that homeowners notice.

Do I need to reinforce my roof frame for a metal roof?

No reinforcement needed, which is one of aluminum's biggest structural advantages. The Mediterranean Tile profile—which replaces traditional clay or concrete tile—weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft and is roughly 96% lighter than the real tile it mimics. Even older Lake View homes with wood framing can handle this load without modification, whereas actual tile or slate would require expensive structural upgrades. Because the panels are so light, Interlock installs over most existing roofs, saving you tear-off labor and keeping landfill waste down. Your inspector can verify your current framing is sound, but in nearly all cases, no reinforcement is required.

Will my homeowner's insurance cover hail damage to a metal roof?

Insurers often offer discounts for metal roofs with a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—because they rarely suffer hail damage. Interlock's panels carry this rating and are even warranted against perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Check with your agent: many insurers reduce your premium for metal roofs with Class 4 certification, recouping part of your install cost. Lake View's climate includes spring and early-summer convective storms, so hail risk is real. A metal roof's proven durability often translates to lower insurance costs, while an asphalt roof's vulnerability to hail damage keeps premiums higher.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Over a 50-year ownership horizon, aluminum is typically the lower total-cost option. Asphalt shingles cost less to install but last 15–25 years in Lake View's 69 annual freeze-thaw cycles, requiring a tear-off, disposal, and reinstall within one ownership term. Interlock's Guardian Warranty covers the original owner for life (non-prorated material coverage), and the next owner receives 50 years from completion—effectively eliminating replacement costs for two generations. Factor in avoided tear-offs, no maintenance, energy savings from energy-efficient colors (up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance), and you break even by year 20–25. Aluminum is the last roof you buy.

What does Interlock's lifetime warranty actually cover?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—no deductibles, no depreciation schedule. It covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. One-time transferable to the next owner, it becomes a 50-year term from completion date. This is exceptional because asphalt warranties often end after 10–20 years or include prorations (you pay more to claim near the end), and because aluminum's track record since 1998 manufacturing in Delta, BC, including Antarctic research station installations, proves the material outlasts the typical home ownership cycle. You're not just buying a roof; you're buying the last roof.

Will a metal roof reduce my cooling costs in summer?

energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect heat rather than absorbing it, lowering peak roof temperature and reducing air-conditioning load. Aged Copper Penny, for example, has an initial solar reflectance of up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning it bounces more of the sun's energy away than asphalt does. Lake View receives about 3094 annual sunshine hours, and while Chicago's summers aren't Arizona-hot, this reflectivity matters on the 20–25 hot days most years. The Cool Roof Rating Council confirms the energy benefit. Combined with the roof's low weight (minimal thermal mass), the net effect is measurable cooling savings—and in winter, the non-reflective underside of the panels (coated on both sides with Alunar) helps trap radiant heat.

Is there an experienced installer in Lake View serving this area?

Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing has been serving the region since 2001, meaning 20+ years of experience with Chicago's exact climate: 1024 mm rainfall, 73 cm snow, and the freeze-thaw cycles that define Lake View winters. Local installers know building codes, know your weather patterns, and can custom-fit profiles (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, Mediterranean Tile) to your home's style. They're familiar with installing over existing roofs, managing ice dam prevention, and coordinating with permit offices in Cook County. A local crew that's been installing Interlock panels for two decades brings accountability and familiarity that you won't get from a national chain.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Lake View’s climate?

Yes. Lake View averages about 73 cm of snow, 1024 mm of rain, roughly 69 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 95 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
