Review: April 12, 2026Completion: May 30, 2016

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!

Review: April 3, 2025Completion: July 31, 2024

Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!

Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!

Review: May 8, 2024Completion: April 29, 2024

We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.

Review: November 30, 2023Completion: October 31, 2023

This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!

I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.

The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Margate Park

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Margate Park, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Margate Park.

Will a metal roof handle Margate Park's freeze-thaw cycles without cracking?

Yes—aluminum's crystalline structure actually thrives through freeze-thaw stress. Margate Park experiences about 69 freeze-thaw days per year, a cycle that splits asphalt and degrades wood shake within years. Aluminum expands and contracts uniformly without cracking or splitting because it has no grain, fiber, or brittle coating layers. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (warranted 30 years against cracking) stays flexible across temperature swings, while the four-way interlocking seams allow micro-movement without opening gaps. This is why Interlock panels survive from coastal salt-air to Antarctic research stations.

How does a metal roof perform with Margate Park's annual snowfall?

Metal roofs shed snow efficiently because their smooth, hard surface prevents ice dam formation—the root cause of attic leaks in heavy-snow climates. Margate Park averages about 73 cm of snow annually with around 1024 mm of rain, conditions where ice dams frequently trap water under asphalt shingles. Aluminum's low-friction surface allows snow and meltwater to slide rather than pool, and the interlocking panel design creates no horizontal lips where ice can catch. Optional snow guards can be installed if you want to retain snow for insulation. The lightweight construction (Slate profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) also means no structural overload even when snow accumulates.

Can a metal roof rust in a humid climate with heavy snow and rain?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and becomes rust. Instead, aluminum instantly develops a thin, invisible oxide layer when exposed to air; if scratched, that layer self-heals within hours. This is why Interlock panels are installed on coastal salt-air homes and have performed since 1998 in Delta, BC, where salt spray corrodes steel roofing within years. Margate Park's ~1024 mm annual rainfall will keep your roof clean but poses zero corrosion risk. Steel roofing requires paint maintenance and eventually fails as rust creeps under the coating; aluminum's oxide protection is permanent and maintenance-free.

Is a metal roof secure against Margate Park's wind gusts?

The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, and Margate Park's typical gusts reach about 95 km/h (59 mph)—leaving a substantial safety margin. The interlocking system means each panel locks on all four edges to its neighbors, distributing wind load across the entire roof assembly rather than relying on fasteners alone. This four-way grip is why the roof earns that 120 mph warranty when installed to specification. Over 25+ years in the field, Interlock roofs have proven themselves in high-wind regions. Your metal roof will outlast the fasteners of a traditional shingle roof by decades.

Does a metal roof require structural reinforcement to my Margate Park home?

No—the lightweight design eliminates the need for costly structural work. The Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile while delivering the same authentic appearance. Most existing roofs can support this load without reinforcement; many homeowners install Interlock metal panels directly over their current asphalt shingles, saving tear-off costs and landfill disposal. For comparison, a typical asphalt roof also weighs under 3 lb/sq ft, so metal is in the same range. This lightweight advantage also reduces stress on wall framing over decades, lowering long-term structural maintenance costs. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms this for standard residential framing.

Will a metal roof reduce my homeowner's insurance in Margate Park?

Many insurers offer discounts for UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated roofing, and Interlock's aluminum panels carry that highest available hail rating. The warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches—an extreme threshold rarely seen in Cook County weather. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation; some carriers reduce premiums 10-15% for impact-resistant roofing because claims are statistically rare. Over a 40-year roof life, even modest annual savings compound significantly. The non-prorated lifetime limited warranty also means you're protected regardless of insurance outcomes.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?

Virtually none beyond routine gutter cleaning. Unlike asphalt shingles that degrade 3-5 years in, wood shake that splits and rots, or tile that cracks, aluminum requires no patching, recoating, or replacement of failed pieces. Margate Park's ~3094 annual sunshine hours and normal rainfall will keep your roof clean without pressure washing. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (both sides) is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading per ASTM testing standards—meaning color and gloss hold through Margate Park's weather cycle. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance versus traditional roofing. Gutters and flashing are the only maintenance items, the same for any roof. This freedom from roof maintenance is one of metal's clearest advantages over asphalt over a 40+ year lifespan.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Over 40+ years, metal roofing is typically the last roof you buy, while asphalt requires 2-3 replacements. Asphalt degrades quickly in Margate Park's 69 annual freeze-thaw cycles and moderate snow/rain (about 1024 mm yearly), typically lasting 15-20 years before visible curling and loss of impact resistance. Each replacement involves labor, tear-off, landfill disposal, and structural disruption. Metal's lifetime limited, non-prorated warranty (transferable for 50 years) means no replacement costs for the original owner and minimal risk for the next owner. When you total initial cost plus 2-3 asphalt replacements, maintenance, and potential leak repairs, metal pays for itself by year 25-30. The avoided downtime and emergency repairs also add value that spreadsheets often miss.

How does a metal roof handle Margate Park's heavy rainfall without leaking?

The four-way interlocking seam design, solid deck, and optional underlayment create a redundant leak barrier that sheds the ~1024 mm annual rainfall efficiently. Water cannot enter overlapping panel joints because the upper panel always overlaps the lower one, and the interlocking edges seal on all four sides. Unlike asphalt shingles (which rely on tar sealant that deteriorates in freeze-thaw cycles), metal panels are fastened and locked in place—no adhesive to fail. A solid roof deck with ice-and-water underlayment beneath metal panels provides two layers of protection. Margate Park's rainfall is moderate, but the interlocking geometry means water flows off before it has time to find a weakness. Proper installation per ESR-1790 specifications is critical; local Interlock installers have served this region since 2001.

Is metal roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt?

Yes—aluminum is about 95% recyclable, breaking the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle that costs money and burdens the environment. When an Interlock roof does eventually reach end of life (40+ years), the panels are melted down and reused; asphalt shingles, by contrast, are torn off every 15-20 years in Margate Park's freeze-thaw climate and sent to landfill because they cannot be recycled. Over 80 years, a property might see five asphalt replacements but only one metal roof installation. Aluminum is also infinitely recyclable without degradation; a panel recycled today can become new roofing, siding, or automotive parts indefinitely. energy-efficient colors with 0.84 thermal emissivity also reduce cooling energy in summer (when ~3094 sunshine hours accumulate), lowering your carbon footprint. One metal roof replaces multiple asphalt roofs and eliminates decades of waste.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Margate Park’s climate?

Yes. Margate Park averages about 73 cm of snow, 1024 mm of rain, roughly 69 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 95 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
