Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Andersonville, Illinois
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!
Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!
We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.
This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!
I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.
Scheduling
I think Interlock Roofing could have improved on the timing and having more flexibility in terms of when the project starts.
Communication on delivery and actual start time
The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Andersonville
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Andersonville, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Andersonville.
Will a metal roof handle Andersonville's freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes — aluminum expands and contracts minimally compared to asphalt or wood, so it withstands the approximately 69 freeze-thaw days per year that Cook County experiences without cracking or curling. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) has been installed since 1998 in climates ranging from coastal salt air to Antarctic research stations, proving its durability through extreme temperature swings. The four-way interlocking panel design allows micro-movement without compromising the seal, and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating doesn't become brittle in cold, maintaining flexibility through winter.
Can an aluminum metal roof rust?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron — the element required for rust formation. Instead, aluminum develops a thin oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, providing passive, permanent protection. This matters in Andersonville because the region receives about 1024 mm of annual rainfall and winter moisture, conditions that would accelerate rust on steel roofs. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating is applied to both sides of every panel for extra protection, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 / D2244 measured), ensuring the underlying aluminum remains corrosion-free for the life of your roof.
How does a metal roof handle snow and ice in Illinois winters?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice effectively because the smooth panel surface, especially the Standing Seam profile, reduces adhesion compared to asphalt. Andersonville averages about 73 cm of snow annually; the four-way interlocking design prevents wind-driven snow from penetrating seams, and the light weight of aluminum (the Slate profile installs at ~0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement is needed even if snow temporarily accumulates. Optional snow guards can be installed to control slide-off, protecting landscaping and walkways below. The thermally reflective coating helps melt ice through solar gain on clear days between the approximately 3094 annual sunshine hours.
Will an aluminum metal roof stay secure in Andersonville's wind gusts?
Yes — Interlock metal roofs are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Cook County's typical daily-max winds average about 25 km/h with gusts reaching approximately 95 km/h, well within the roof's rated capacity. The four-way interlocking panel system locks each panel to its neighbors, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than putting stress on individual fasteners. This interlocking design, combined with proper installation over solid decking, has proven reliable in coastal salt-air environments and extreme weather zones since 1998.
What warranty does Interlock offer, and how long will the roof last?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance — defects that plague asphalt and wood. It's also transferable once, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from completion, adding value when you sell. This warranty directly reflects the durability of the aluminum core and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating, both designed to last decades. In Andersonville's climate of about 1024 mm rain, 73 cm snow, and 69 freeze-thaw days annually, this protection covers the stresses that wear down conventional roofs in 20-25 years.
Does an aluminum metal roof hold up in hail, and can it lower my insurance?
Interlock metal roofs carry the highest impact rating available: UL 2218 Class 4, which means they resist hailstones up to 1.5 inches in diameter without perforation — the warranty even covers perforation damage up to that size. This rating demonstrates non-catastrophic failure in extreme conditions. Some insurers offer discounts for Class 4-rated roofs because claims are far less likely than with asphalt shingles, which dent and crack easily. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 certification; the combination of impact resistance and the lifetime warranty often qualifies for premium reductions over a 30+ year roof life.
How long does installation take, and can you install over my existing roof?
Installation timeline depends on roof size and complexity; Interlock's local installer has served the region since 2001 and can provide a precise estimate. The major advantage is that aluminum's light weight — about 0.41 to 0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile — allows installation over most existing asphalt or wood roofs without removal, eliminating tear-off labor and landfill waste. This overlay approach saves time and money while the new roof provides an additional weather layer above the old one. Your installer will assess deck condition and ensure proper ventilation to meet ICC-ES ESR-1790 code compliance (IBC/IRC, reissued 2025).
Can a metal roof reduce my cooling costs in summer?
energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect heat rather than absorb it, with thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), cooling your home compared to dark asphalt that absorbs solar radiation. Andersonville averages about 3094 sunshine hours annually, so summer heat gain is significant; reflective coatings minimize attic temperature rise, reducing air-conditioner load. The Cool Roof Rating Council rates these coatings independently, providing third-party proof of energy performance. Over a roof's 40-50 year life, reflective coatings can offset a meaningful portion of cooling costs, especially in upper stories and vented attics.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt?
Asphalt typically costs less initially but lasts 20-25 years, requiring full replacement once or twice in your lifetime, while Interlock metal roofs carry a lifetime limited warranty for the original owner and 50 years for the next, representing the last roof you may need to buy. Over 50+ years, the math favors metal: one installation versus two or three tear-offs, disposal costs, and labor. Add in energy savings from reflective coatings, avoided structural reinforcement (aluminum weighs ~96% less than tile), and resale value, and the total cost-of-ownership strongly favors aluminum. Andersonville's freeze-thaw cycling and rainfall (about 1024 mm yearly) accelerate asphalt degradation, making the longer lifespan of aluminum increasingly valuable.
How much maintenance does an aluminum metal roof need?
Aluminum requires almost none of the ongoing maintenance that asphalt and wood demand. Asphalt shingles curl, crack, and lose granules every few years; wood shakes split and rot; traditional tile cracks and requires regular mortar repair. Interlock metal roofs are warranted against splitting, cracking, curling, and rot — eliminating those expenses. Occasional gutter cleaning (standard for any roof) and debris removal after storms is all that's needed. The CALGreen-verified design eliminates the need for frequent re-coating or moss treatment that wet, cold climates like Andersonville — with about 1024 mm rain and 73 cm snow per year — impose on other materials. This makes aluminum the lowest-maintenance option available.
