Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Ball Square, Massachusetts
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
It was really hard to communicate with the crew because they spoke Spanish and it was hard to coordinate with them.
They could've improved on cleanliness and care on the jobsite during the job. They did great cleaning afterwards.
Please check your records I believe my brothersr roof was done around 13 to 15 years the go Respectfully Elias G. Noukas9 Wolcott ParkMedford, Mass . 02155
These people exceeded all my expectations. Professional, timely, quality-oriented company and crew. Highest recommendation without any reservations.
They need to be aware that they have to take responsibility for the customers home and belongings. They could have improved on their customer service and they could have come more prepared. They kept calling wanting to start the project over and over but I could not let them start until my chimneys were done. They need to be prepared when they come to do a job.
I wanted to let you know how happy my wife and I are with our new Interlock roof and the quality of the installation work. The installers presented themselves in a very professional manner. They took great pride in their job and worked on our home as if it was their own. At the end of the day, they always cleaned up after themselves and never inconvenienced my family. They truly were a wonderful crew! The roof looks fantastic. It is much sharper and cleaner looking than our old roof. Since it was completed, we have had several hard rainstorms. The roof performed very well. One of our initial concerns was if rain hitting this new roof would be louder than our old. On those stormy nights, our fears were quickly put to rest. There was no difference in sound compared to our old roof. Then, the night before Thanksgiving, we had a snowstorm. Thanksgiving Day was nice and sunny, and our house was the only one with no snow on the roof. The Interlock roof is, by far, the best home improvement project I have undertaken; it is wonderful knowing I will never have to worry about my roof again. Thanks for the great product and service.
The material left behind after the first meeting was not informative and the website stinks. I don’t need testimonials, I would like easy accessible facts.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Ball Square
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Ball Square, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Ball Square.
How does a metal roof handle heavy snow in Massachusetts?
Metal roofing sheds snow effectively because the smooth, hard surface and thermal properties prevent ice damming—the real culprit in Massachusetts winters. Ball Square averages about 84 cm of snow annually, along with roughly 76 freeze-thaw cycles per year, which means your roof cycles between melting and refreezing constantly. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels lock together so tightly that wind gusts up to 130 km/h won't lift edges, and the panels stay put even as snow loads shift. The lightweight design also means no structural reinforcement is needed, so you're not spending thousands reinforcing your frame to handle the load that slate or concrete tile would demand.
Will freeze-thaw cycles damage an aluminum metal roof?
No—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw cycles because it doesn't absorb water and has no pores that can trap moisture and expand. Ball Square experiences about 76 freeze-thaw days yearly, a tougher cycle than milder climates, but aluminum's oxide layer prevents corrosion by self-healing when scratched, and the 3105-H24 alloy used in Interlock panels is engineered to flex without cracking through repeated expansion and contraction. Asphalt and wood absorb moisture, swell, and degrade; aluminum simply cycles harmlessly. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating on both sides is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, measured to ASTM standards, so the finish holds up to the seasonal stress your region puts on roofing.
Can an aluminum roof rust like steel roofing does?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rust requires iron to form. When aluminum's surface is scratched or exposed, a thin oxide layer forms instantly and self-heals, protecting the metal underneath indefinitely. Steel roofing, by contrast, will rust through if that protective coating gets damaged, which Ball Square's 1065 mm of annual rainfall and 22 km/h typical winds accelerate over time. Interlock panels are manufactured from roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy to ASTM B209 standards and coated with Alunar fluorocarbon on both sides, giving you a material that simply will not corrode no matter how many wet cycles your roof endures in a New England year.
Will my metal roof blow off in a nor'easter?
No—the four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors on all four sides, creating a continuous, unified structure that resists uplift. Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, and Ball Square's typical gusts reach about 130 km/h (roughly 81 mph), with occasional stronger events that stay well within rated limits. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025) confirms compliance with wind load requirements in the International Building Code. When installed to specification by a qualified contractor, the panels stay locked down through seasonal storms and nor'easters; the warranty even covers wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed per code.
Does hail damage metal roofing, and can I get an insurance break?
Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest classification available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Most homeowners find that this rating, combined with the non-combustible Class A fire classification available, qualifies them for insurance discounts on both hail and fire coverage. Ball Square's climate brings typical gusts around 130 km/h and significant precipitation, so hail resistance matters. The aluminum alloy is engineered to absorb impact without cracking or losing structural integrity the way asphalt, wood, or clay tile do. Contact your insurer with the ESR-1790 report and UL 2218 Class 4 rating; many carriers offer lower premiums for impact-resistant metal roofing.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt?
A metal roof costs more upfront than asphalt, but you're buying the last roof you'll install. Asphalt shingles last 15–20 years in Ball Square's climate, which means two or three tear-off and replacement cycles in your ownership; Interlock comes with a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner and a one-time transferable 50-year term for the next owner—coverage that spans generations. The lightweight panels install over most existing roofs, eliminating costly tear-off labor, and zero maintenance (no annual cleaning from the 1065 mm of rain or 84 cm of snow each year) means no pressure-washing or repairs. You're paying once, then never paying again; asphalt keeps billing you every couple of decades.
What exactly does the Interlock warranty cover, and how long does it last?
The Guardian lifetime limited warranty covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance for the original owner—and it's non-prorated, meaning full coverage throughout your ownership, not declining percentages. The warranty is one-time transferable to the next owner, who then receives 50 years of coverage from the roof's completion date. This structure reflects Interlock's confidence in the material and installation quality. Aluminum doesn't rust, the coating is warranted 30 years against fading and chalking to ASTM standards, and the panels are manufactured to ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance, so the warranty isn't hiding behind fine print—it's backing a product that's been in service since 1998.
What roof styles does Interlock offer for Massachusetts homes?
Interlock manufactures five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. Each replicates the visual character of traditional materials while delivering aluminum's durability and light weight. The Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles suit colonial and ranch homes common in Ball Square's neighborhoods; Shake and Standing Seam appeal to modern and transitional designs. The Mediterranean Tile profile is roughly 96% lighter than actual concrete or clay tile, so there's no need for structural reinforcement—your house supports it as easily as asphalt. All profiles interlock four ways and can install over existing roofing, giving you material authenticity without the maintenance burden that wood or tile demands in a climate with 76 annual freeze-thaw cycles.
How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need?
Virtually none—that's the practical advantage. Asphalt shingles require periodic inspection, replacement of curled or missing shingles, and gutter cleaning; wood shakes need annual treatment and repairs; slate and tile demand professional inspection and repointing. Interlock metal roofing needs no treatment, no painting, no annual maintenance visits, and no repairs beyond the rare fastener check. Ball Square's 1065 mm annual rainfall and 84 cm of snow simply rinse off and drain away; the Alunar fluorocarbon finish doesn't fade, chalk, or require renewal across its 30-year warranty. After installation, you don't think about your roof—it works. That's the economics: zero maintenance cost and zero labor over decades, while asphalt and wood keep pulling you back for repairs and treatments.
Will heavy rain leak through the interlocking seams?
No—the four-way interlocking design creates overlapping seams that channel water downward and outward, not inward. Ball Square receives about 1065 mm of rain annually spread across roughly 3109 sunshine hours, meaning heavy downpours are the norm, not the exception, and the panel geometry handles volume. Water runs along the top of one panel and down the vertical leg of the interlocked panel below, then down to the next overlap, creating a cascade that gravitationally directs water to the gutters. Combined with proper deck underlayment and flashing installed to code, this mechanical design has proven reliable since 1998 in coastal salt-air environments, Antarctic research stations, and every climate in between. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 report confirms leak performance under IBC/IRC conditions.
