Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Porter Square, Massachusetts
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |

What our customers are saying:
These people exceeded all my expectations. Professional, timely, quality-oriented company and crew. Highest recommendation without any reservations.
I wanted to let you know how happy my wife and I are with our new Interlock roof and the quality of the installation work. The installers presented themselves in a very professional manner. They took great pride in their job and worked on our home as if it was their own. At the end of the day, they always cleaned up after themselves and never inconvenienced my family. They truly were a wonderful crew! The roof looks fantastic. It is much sharper and cleaner looking than our old roof. Since it was completed, we have had several hard rainstorms. The roof performed very well. One of our initial concerns was if rain hitting this new roof would be louder than our old. On those stormy nights, our fears were quickly put to rest. There was no difference in sound compared to our old roof. Then, the night before Thanksgiving, we had a snowstorm. Thanksgiving Day was nice and sunny, and our house was the only one with no snow on the roof. The Interlock roof is, by far, the best home improvement project I have undertaken; it is wonderful knowing I will never have to worry about my roof again. Thanks for the great product and service.
Thank you so much for meeting with us to arrange the purchase of a new roof by Interlock. It’s gorgeous! It is so comforting to know that our roof is now safe from leaks and ugliness. We had a few obvious leaks every time it rained or snowed, and that hasn’t happened since our new roof was completed. We have seen several people “looking” as they " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk or drive by, and several neighbors have made comments as to how great it looks. This was a job that we put off for years – and now we’re so glad that we have done it! What a great crew you had – they were polite – they did the work, and they cleaned up beautifully (even better than how they found it – to our pleasure). The roof was delivered as promised – on time! The crew worked long hours to get it completed, and although we had bad weather on a few of those days – the work was completed in a week! They never interfered with our own schedule and despite the hammering which comes with any job of this nature – we just knew they were getting the work done as expeditiously as possible – working until the available light made it unsafe to continue for the day. Thank you – Interlock is a great company with a product that is sure to give us many years of security, knowing that our roof will surely outlast us and that we don’t have to worry about any future roofing jobs. You were very accommodating and a pleasure to work with! It is great to know that we now have the “best roof” on the block – not the worst!
This is to give you feedback on our recent Interlock roof installation. The installation, including stripping the old roofing, went very well and cleaned up was as I had expected. This is an old house with dormers, and even since I have lived here (since 1956), it has had various leak problems that were never solved with new asphalt shingle jobs. Within a week of completion of the Interlock Roof, we had a heavy wet snowstorm and two days of wind-driven rains. Everything is dry. Also, we get lots of comments from passersby about how nice the roof looks. You can consider me satisfied.
Based on my original review below, Interlock reached out and was explicit about wanting to know what needed to be done to receive a better review. My experience with Interlock since that point has been excellent. First, the customer service person (Jen) became very responsive. The technician (who I had positive things to say about below) continued to be knowledgeable and focused on doing the job right. The technician applied new caulking around the chimney, alerted me to issues with the chimney cap (not in scope), and completely re-installed the flashing where our original house meets a lower roof (what was the issue resulting in significant exterior, structural wall damage). The technician explained that installation methods for the Interlock product have changed over the years and what was installed originally is no longer the way flashing is installed today. This latest set of interactions with Interlock gives me greater confidence that we would continue to use Interlock for any additions to the house needing roofing (e.g., a portico over the front door, an addition over the garage). If their current technician in the Boston area is an indication of current install quality, then you will have no issues or complaints about the product. I just feel badly for all the folks with older Interlock roofs, like me, where installation methods were unacceptable. Original Review: We bought a house with an Interlock roof. I really want to like Interlock. It seems like a nice product. Unfortunately, the roof installation cut proverbial corners and getting service for the roof has been extremely difficult. For the sake of giving credit where due, their roofer that collaborated with our solar installer was competent. Sadly that is not universally the case. When we first moved in, one of the first things I noticed was that the metal roof installation, over an existing composite roof, makes the unfortunate assumption that the flashing under the old roof is in good shape and will continue to operate. As such on one section of roof that abuts the main house, the flashing was fastened to the side of the wood siding, allowing rain running down the side of the house to go behind the flashing down to, theoretically, the original roof and flashing. Another roof that abuts the main house was installed by Interlock without flashing by shoving it up under the wood siding. This has expedited wood rot of the siding and has not prevented water leaks that completely rotted a significant portion of the exterior wall of the main house. It is crazy to me that anyone would install a roof without ensuring it is flashed properly. Beyond that, trying to work with Interlock to collaborate with our solar installer was a very painful process. Due to Interlock not reading the solar installation plans or passing them along to their roofer, they were not prepared to help with the solar rail installation, leading the solar installer to have to eat the cost of a crew of 8 people that could not do the install as planned as the right roof flashing was not available. Thank goodness the Interlock roofer was willing to not proceed without the right flashing, but it would have been better had the right preparation been made. There is now a leak around the chimney of the house. I have been trying to schedule service with Interlock for over a month and a half. Their "system" has been down for over two months so they cannot find records regarding the roof on my house. They have also been unable to schedule me for service, consistently passing messages along to a local affiliate of some sort that keeps telling me that they can't schedule for service until their system comes back up. I hope I can eventually update this post with some good news, but as of right now I have a list of reasons you should avoid this company.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Porter Square
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Porter Square, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Porter Square.
How does a metal roof handle Porter Square's snow and ice buildup?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice efficiently because the smooth, hard surface resists ice adhesion far better than asphalt shingles. With roughly 84 cm of snow per year and about 76 freeze-thaw cycles, your Porter Square home faces real risk of ice dams and water damage from shingle roofs. Metal's continuous surface prevents the granule deterioration and soft spots that trap meltwater. Install optional snow guards if you need to slow shedding for safety, but the metal itself won't degrade from the repeated freezing and thawing that weakens traditional materials.
Will freeze-thaw cycling crack or damage an aluminum metal roof?
No. Aluminum's crystalline structure and flexibility make it inherently resistant to crack formation during the roughly 76 freeze-thaw cycles Porter Square experiences yearly. Unlike brittle asphalt, slate, or concrete tile, roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy expands and contracts without fracturing. The self-healing oxide layer also protects against corrosion that could weaken the material. Over 25+ years of New England winters, this durability translates to zero splitting or curling—the problems that force asphalt replacement every 15–20 years in your climate.
Can an aluminum roof rust or corrode in a wet climate like Massachusetts?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; the corrosion process that weakens steel roofing simply cannot occur. In your region's 1065 mm of annual rainfall, this means no rust stains, no structural weakening, and no hidden corrosion eating through fasteners or seams. A protective Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (applied to both sides of every panel) guards against the occasional salt transport and acid rain, and it self-repairs at microscopic scratches. The 30-year coating warranty against fading and chalking gives you quantified confidence—not guesswork—that the surface will stay intact through decades of wet New England weather.
How does Interlock Metal Roofing handle heavy rainfall without leaks?
Porter Square receives about 1065 mm of rain annually, and Interlock's four-way interlocking system is engineered to shed water faster than it falls. Each panel locks tightly to its neighbors on all four sides, eliminating the seam gaps where asphalt shingles let water infiltrate. Installation over a solid deck with underlayment (the standard practice at Interlock Metal Roofing New England) adds a second line of defense. The result is the same watertight performance you'd expect from asphalt, but with the durability advantage—no granule washout, no shingle curl that creates pathways for water to track under the roof.
Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is required. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than real concrete or clay tile—while the Cedar Shingle weighs only 0.41 lb/sq ft. Most homes can accept this load over existing roofs without modification, which also saves you thousands in structural work. The lightweight advantage matters especially in Porter Square's windy climate, where gusts reach about 130 km/h; lighter weight actually improves wind stability and reduces stress on fasteners and the overall frame. Your existing roof structure almost certainly supports metal installation.
Will a metal roof stay secure in Porter Square's wind and gust events?
Yes. Interlock panels are warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed per specification—well above the typical gust speeds of about 130 km/h reported in your region. The four-way interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors on all edges, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than concentrating stress on fasteners. This mechanical engineering, combined with proper installation of base trim and flashing, ensures your roof stays intact through nor'easters and typical New England storms. The warranty backs this durability with real numbers, not promises.
Does a metal roof handle hail, and can I get an insurance discount?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest classification available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This exceptional durability often qualifies you for homeowners insurance discounts; contact your agent with the UL 2218 rating to explore savings. In a region with typical hail exposure, this impact resistance means you'll likely never file a roof claim for weather damage, which protects your claims history and rates long-term. Real metal roofing doesn't dent or fail under the impacts that total asphalt or tile roofs.
What warranty comes with Interlock metal roofing, and how long does it truly last?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you as the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, which adds real resale appeal. In a freeze-thaw climate like Porter Square's (about 76 cycles per year), this means you're buying your last roof; asphalt typically fails in 15–20 years, requiring expensive tear-off and landfill costs. Aluminum's inherent durability—combined with the Alunar coating warranty (30 years against chalking and fading)—ensures you'll pass a genuinely valuable roof to the next owner.
How much maintenance does an Interlock metal roof really need?
Far less than asphalt, wood, or tile. Metal doesn't degrade from UV exposure the way asphalt does, doesn't rot or split like wood shake, and doesn't crack under freeze-thaw stress like tile or slate. With about 3109 sunshine hours and 1065 mm of rainfall per year in Porter Square, your roof faces significant weather; Interlock's roofing-grade aluminum and Alunar coating handle it without annual inspection, sealing, or replacement of failed sections. Routine gutter cleaning and occasional debris removal are sufficient. This maintenance-light profile is verified by CALGreen standards, so you're not relying on marketing claims—building codes recognize the durability difference.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt over 30 years?
Yes, when you account for the full lifecycle. Asphalt typically costs less upfront but requires replacement every 15–20 years in New England's freeze-thaw climate (76 cycles yearly in Porter Square); metal is installed once and lasts your lifetime with zero major repairs. Factor in tear-off labor, landfill fees, and reinstallation of gutters and flashing each time you replace asphalt, and metal becomes the lower total-cost option by year 25. Current financing—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—makes the initial investment even more manageable. You're also buying a transferable warranty and a roof that prospective buyers recognize as a premium asset, not a ticking clock.
