Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for East Cambridge, Massachusetts
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
The material left behind after the first meeting was not informative and the website stinks. I don’t need testimonials, I would like easy accessible facts.
It was really hard to communicate with the crew because they spoke Spanish and it was hard to coordinate with them.
They could've improved on cleanliness and care on the jobsite during the job. They did great cleaning afterwards.
Please check your records I believe my brothersr roof was done around 13 to 15 years the go Respectfully Elias G. Noukas9 Wolcott ParkMedford, Mass . 02155
These people exceeded all my expectations. Professional, timely, quality-oriented company and crew. Highest recommendation without any reservations.
They need to be aware that they have to take responsibility for the customers home and belongings. They could have improved on their customer service and they could have come more prepared. They kept calling wanting to start the project over and over but I could not let them start until my chimneys were done. They need to be prepared when they come to do a job.
I wanted to let you know how happy my wife and I are with our new Interlock roof and the quality of the installation work. The installers presented themselves in a very professional manner. They took great pride in their job and worked on our home as if it was their own. At the end of the day, they always cleaned up after themselves and never inconvenienced my family. They truly were a wonderful crew! The roof looks fantastic. It is much sharper and cleaner looking than our old roof. Since it was completed, we have had several hard rainstorms. The roof performed very well. One of our initial concerns was if rain hitting this new roof would be louder than our old. On those stormy nights, our fears were quickly put to rest. There was no difference in sound compared to our old roof. Then, the night before Thanksgiving, we had a snowstorm. Thanksgiving Day was nice and sunny, and our house was the only one with no snow on the roof. The Interlock roof is, by far, the best home improvement project I have undertaken; it is wonderful knowing I will never have to worry about my roof again. Thanks for the great product and service.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in East Cambridge
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in East Cambridge, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in East Cambridge.
Will a metal roof handle freeze-thaw cycles in East Cambridge winters?
Yes—aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched, which is crucial during East Cambridge's ~76 freeze-thaw days per year. Unlike asphalt shingles that crack and split under repeated expansion and contraction, roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) expands and contracts uniformly without degradation. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, warranted 30 years against chalking, protects the surface through salt-air winters and thaw cycles. The Guardian Warranty explicitly covers cracking and splitting, giving you peace of mind when spring melt arrives after ~84 cm of annual snowfall.
How does a metal roof perform under East Cambridge's snow loads?
Metal roofing handles snow exceptionally well because Interlock's four-way interlocking panels resist shedding and provide positive snow retention when needed. At ~0.58 lb/sq ft (Shake profile), the panels are light enough to require no structural reinforcement, yet rigid enough to support the ~84 cm of snow East Cambridge receives annually without sagging or pooling. The smooth aluminum surface reflects rather than absorbs melt water, reducing ice dam formation during the ~3109 annual sunshine hours that trigger thaw cycles. Snow guards install easily on the interlocking system if you prefer controlled release in residential areas.
Can Interlock Metal Roofing withstand East Cambridge's wind gusts?
The four-way interlocking panel design is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h)—well above East Cambridge's typical gust maxima of ~130 km/h recorded in regional data. Each panel locks on all four sides, creating a single integrated structure rather than independent shingles that lift and tear. The 120 mph warranty applies when installed to specification by our local team, Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc., which has served the region since 1999. This design also prevents the wind-driven rain penetration that challenges shingle roofs during heavy coastal weather.
Why choose aluminum roofing instead of steel in a salty, freezing climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes in steel roofing. Instead, aluminum forms a thin, self-healing oxide layer that protects the underlying metal. In salt-air regions and freeze-thaw climates like East Cambridge's (~76 annual freeze-thaw cycles), this is a decisive advantage over steel or galvanized metal roofs, which corrode from repeated moisture exposure and de-icing salts. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of every panel, adding an extra barrier against the ~1065 mm of annual rainfall and winter salt spray. The Guardian Warranty covers rusting for the lifetime of your ownership, transferring to the next owner for 50 years.
Does a metal roof help with hail insurance in Massachusetts?
Interlock Metal Roofing achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many homeowners in hail-prone regions receive insurance discounts or premium reductions for Class 4 rated roofing; contact your provider for specifics. East Cambridge's climate data does not indicate frequent hail, but the Class 4 rating provides protection against severe spring and summer storms. Unlike asphalt shingles that require replacement after one major hail event, an aluminum roof's superior impact resistance can reduce claims frequency and potentially lower your annual costs over 25+ years of ownership.
Can my existing roof structure support a metal roof without reinforcement?
Yes. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile installs at ~0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—requiring no structural reinforcement. The Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles are equally light, so most homes in East Cambridge can upgrade over existing asphalt without expensive framing work. This also simplifies installation: our local team can often install directly over your current roof, eliminating disposal costs and reducing labor time. The four-way interlocking design distributes the light load evenly across your existing structure, and the ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation (reissued 2025) confirms code compliance for new and retrofit applications in Massachusetts.
What maintenance does an aluminum metal roof actually need?
Aluminum roofs require far less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or tile. There is no algae growth, no granule loss (as in shingles degraded by East Cambridge's ~1065 mm annual rainfall), no split shakes to replace. Debris removal is simple—leaves and twigs slide off the smooth, sloped surface. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warrantied 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214/D2244 tested), so color and finish remain stable through 76 annual freeze-thaw cycles. Most owners rinse gutters once or twice yearly. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance vs. traditional materials, meaning lower upkeep costs over the roof's 50+ year lifespan and lower total cost of ownership.
How waterproof is a metal roof in heavy rain?
Completely waterproof when installed to spec. The four-way interlocking system creates overlapping, sealed seams that channel water downslope; heavy rainfall (East Cambridge averages ~1065 mm per year) flows off without pooling. Unlike asphalt shingles, which rely on nails and underlayment that degrade over time, the interlocking design is the primary water barrier. Installation includes a solid deck and underlayment (silent, like asphalt), so no water reaches your attic. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms code-compliant water management for pitched roofs in cold climates. The Guardian Warranty covers leaks and water intrusion, transferring 50 years to the next owner, giving confidence through decades of New England weather.
Will a metal roof reduce my cooling costs?
energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect heat rather than absorb it—up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance in Aged Copper Penny, with thermal emissivity of 0.84. This matters in East Cambridge's ~3109 annual sunshine hours: reflective coatings reduce surface temperature, lowering cooling demand in summer while your home still receives full winter solar gain when the sun is lower. Cool Roof Rating Council verification confirms measurable energy savings vs. asphalt. The light weight (~0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft) also means less thermal mass, so your HVAC doesn't work to cool the roof structure itself. Over a 25-year lifespan, energy savings compound, improving your return on the initial investment.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt?
Yes—metal is the last roof you'll buy. Asphalt costs less initially but requires replacement every 15–20 years; Interlock lasts 50+ years with zero rust, rot, or impact failure. The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited, non-prorated for the original owner and transferable for 50 years to the next owner, protecting your investment and resale appeal. Installation over existing asphalt saves tear-off and disposal costs, and the light weight (~0.41 lb/sq ft for Shingle profile) often eliminates structural reinforcement. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. Over a 50-year ownership period, metal costs less per year than asphalt's repeated replacements, plus you avoid the landfill impact of ~1065 mm annual rainfall cycling through disposable shingles.
