What our customers are saying:
These people exceeded all my expectations. Professional, timely, quality-oriented company and crew. Highest recommendation without any reservations.
I wanted to let you know how happy my wife and I are with our new Interlock roof and the quality of the installation work. The installers presented themselves in a very professional manner. They took great pride in their job and worked on our home as if it was their own. At the end of the day, they always cleaned up after themselves and never inconvenienced my family. They truly were a wonderful crew! The roof looks fantastic. It is much sharper and cleaner looking than our old roof. Since it was completed, we have had several hard rainstorms. The roof performed very well. One of our initial concerns was if rain hitting this new roof would be louder than our old. On those stormy nights, our fears were quickly put to rest. There was no difference in sound compared to our old roof. Then, the night before Thanksgiving, we had a snowstorm. Thanksgiving Day was nice and sunny, and our house was the only one with no snow on the roof. The Interlock roof is, by far, the best home improvement project I have undertaken; it is wonderful knowing I will never have to worry about my roof again. Thanks for the great product and service.
Thank you so much for meeting with us to arrange the purchase of a new roof by Interlock. It’s gorgeous! It is so comforting to know that our roof is now safe from leaks and ugliness. We had a few obvious leaks every time it rained or snowed, and that hasn’t happened since our new roof was completed. We have seen several people “looking” as they " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk or drive by, and several neighbors have made comments as to how great it looks. This was a job that we put off for years – and now we’re so glad that we have done it! What a great crew you had – they were polite – they did the work, and they cleaned up beautifully (even better than how they found it – to our pleasure). The roof was delivered as promised – on time! The crew worked long hours to get it completed, and although we had bad weather on a few of those days – the work was completed in a week! They never interfered with our own schedule and despite the hammering which comes with any job of this nature – we just knew they were getting the work done as expeditiously as possible – working until the available light made it unsafe to continue for the day. Thank you – Interlock is a great company with a product that is sure to give us many years of security, knowing that our roof will surely outlast us and that we don’t have to worry about any future roofing jobs. You were very accommodating and a pleasure to work with! It is great to know that we now have the “best roof” on the block – not the worst!
This is to give you feedback on our recent Interlock roof installation. The installation, including stripping the old roofing, went very well and cleaned up was as I had expected. This is an old house with dormers, and even since I have lived here (since 1956), it has had various leak problems that were never solved with new asphalt shingle jobs. Within a week of completion of the Interlock Roof, we had a heavy wet snowstorm and two days of wind-driven rains. Everything is dry. Also, we get lots of comments from passersby about how nice the roof looks. You can consider me satisfied.
Based on my original review below, Interlock reached out and was explicit about wanting to know what needed to be done to receive a better review. My experience with Interlock since that point has been excellent. First, the customer service person (Jen) became very responsive. The technician (who I had positive things to say about below) continued to be knowledgeable and focused on doing the job right. The technician applied new caulking around the chimney, alerted me to issues with the chimney cap (not in scope), and completely re-installed the flashing where our original house meets a lower roof (what was the issue resulting in significant exterior, structural wall damage). The technician explained that installation methods for the Interlock product have changed over the years and what was installed originally is no longer the way flashing is installed today. This latest set of interactions with Interlock gives me greater confidence that we would continue to use Interlock for any additions to the house needing roofing (e.g., a portico over the front door, an addition over the garage). If their current technician in the Boston area is an indication of current install quality, then you will have no issues or complaints about the product. I just feel badly for all the folks with older Interlock roofs, like me, where installation methods were unacceptable. Original Review: We bought a house with an Interlock roof. I really want to like Interlock. It seems like a nice product. Unfortunately, the roof installation cut proverbial corners and getting service for the roof has been extremely difficult. For the sake of giving credit where due, their roofer that collaborated with our solar installer was competent. Sadly that is not universally the case. When we first moved in, one of the first things I noticed was that the metal roof installation, over an existing composite roof, makes the unfortunate assumption that the flashing under the old roof is in good shape and will continue to operate. As such on one section of roof that abuts the main house, the flashing was fastened to the side of the wood siding, allowing rain running down the side of the house to go behind the flashing down to, theoretically, the original roof and flashing. Another roof that abuts the main house was installed by Interlock without flashing by shoving it up under the wood siding. This has expedited wood rot of the siding and has not prevented water leaks that completely rotted a significant portion of the exterior wall of the main house. It is crazy to me that anyone would install a roof without ensuring it is flashed properly. Beyond that, trying to work with Interlock to collaborate with our solar installer was a very painful process. Due to Interlock not reading the solar installation plans or passing them along to their roofer, they were not prepared to help with the solar rail installation, leading the solar installer to have to eat the cost of a crew of 8 people that could not do the install as planned as the right roof flashing was not available. Thank goodness the Interlock roofer was willing to not proceed without the right flashing, but it would have been better had the right preparation been made. There is now a leak around the chimney of the house. I have been trying to schedule service with Interlock for over a month and a half. Their "system" has been down for over two months so they cannot find records regarding the roof on my house. They have also been unable to schedule me for service, consistently passing messages along to a local affiliate of some sort that keeps telling me that they can't schedule for service until their system comes back up. I hope I can eventually update this post with some good news, but as of right now I have a list of reasons you should avoid this company.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Somerville
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Somerville, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Somerville.
Will a metal roof handle Somerville's freeze-thaw cycles without failing?
Yes—aluminum's oxide layer actually strengthens under freeze-thaw stress rather than cracking like asphalt or wood. Somerville experiences about 76 freeze-thaw days annually with roughly 84 cm of snow, creating ideal conditions for material fatigue. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is specifically engineered for repeated temperature swings. The four-way interlocking panels expand and contract uniformly without trapping moisture, and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating remains flexible through winter. Your roof won't split, curl, or develop cracks from seasonal stress—problems that plague asphalt and cedar shake in this climate.
How does metal roofing perform under Somerville's snow load and ice dam conditions?
Metal roofing sheds snow and ice far better than asphalt because its smooth, interlocking surface offers no grip for accumulation. With about 84 cm of snow annually, this matters significantly. The panels' lightweight design (the Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural upgrades are needed, yet the four-way interlocking system locks panels together so snow doesn't shift or create dangerous overhangs. Ice dams form when heat escapes through the roof; metal's high thermal reflectance (up to 0.55 on select colors) keeps less heat from entering the attic in spring, reducing ice-dam formation. Optional snow guards can be added above windows or walkways if you prefer extra caution.
Can metal roofing handle Somerville's heavy rainfall without leaking?
Absolutely. Somerville receives about 1065 mm of rain annually—well above the U.S. average—and metal roofing is engineered to outperform in wet climates. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels create continuous seams that overlap and mechanically lock, so water runs off rather than pooling or finding entry points. Unlike asphalt, which can soften and crack under sustained moisture, aluminum is inert and its oxide layer cannot corrode. When installed over solid deck and underlayment (the standard for this region), the system becomes effectively identical to asphalt in noise and water shedding—but without the deterioration that heavy rainfall causes to shingles over time. Gutters and downspouts handle the same volume as any roof.
Why can't an aluminum metal roof rust like steel roofing?
Steel roofs rust; aluminum roofs do not. Steel contains iron, which oxidizes into rust when exposed to moisture and oxygen. Interlock's panels are made from roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy—no iron at all. When aluminum is scratched, its oxide layer self-heals in the presence of oxygen, sealing the exposed metal automatically. This is especially important in the Boston area, where humidity and winter salt exposure from roads and air can corrode steel quickly. Interlock applies Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating to both sides of every panel, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, adding a protective barrier even before you consider aluminum's inherent corrosion resistance. Your roof will never rust, no matter how many wet winters Somerville throws at it.
Is metal roofing strong enough for Somerville's typical wind gusts?
Yes, with a safety margin. Somerville's typical daily-max winds are about 22 km/h, with gusts reaching roughly 130 km/h—well within Interlock's performance envelope. The warranty covers wind resistance up to 120 mph (193 km/h), and UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating confirms the panels' structural rigidity. The four-way interlocking system mechanically locks each panel to its neighbors, distributing wind loads across the entire roof rather than stressing individual fasteners. This interlocking design means wind cannot lift, separate, or flutter panels. Proper installation by Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. ensures fasteners and flashings are sealed and anchored to spec. You'll have a roof that stands firm through the worst nor'easters without worry.
Does Somerville hail damage metal roofing, and can I get an insurance discount?
Hail doesn't damage Interlock's metal panels—in fact, the roof is rated to withstand it. The panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest available, meaning they survive impacts from 50-mm (2-inch) steel balls dropped from 3.6 meters without cracking. The Guardian warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Because aluminum is significantly lighter and more durable than slate or clay tile, and because impact damage is virtually impossible, many homeowners find their insurance premiums drop when they upgrade to metal roofing. Even if Somerville experiences a severe hailstorm, you won't be filing claims or facing the costly repairs that asphalt and wood shake require. Check with your insurer about potential discounts once your roof is installed.
Will I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's metal panels are extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile, which mimics the visual weight of concrete or clay tile, installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it about 96% lighter than the real thing. This means you can install metal roofing over most existing asphalt, wood, or single-layer tile roofs without removing old material or calling in a structural engineer. The ICC-ES evaluation report (ESR-1790, reissued 2025) confirms compliance with building codes across the Northeast. Somerville inspectors will find no issues. Because the panels are so light, your home's framing, trusses, and foundation bear essentially the same load as before—yet you gain a roof that lasts multiple human lifetimes. It's the only scenario where you get a premium upgrade without costly reinforcement.
What's the real lifespan of a metal roof, and what does the warranty cover?
Interlock's metal roofing carries a lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner—the only roof you'll ever buy for your Somerville home. The warranty is non-prorated, meaning full coverage applies for your entire ownership. It covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. The Guardian Warranty is also one-time transferable, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from completion, adding real value if you sell. The Alunar coating alone is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. Combined with aluminum's inherent inertness and the four-way interlocking design that prevents water infiltration, you're looking at 50+ years of reliable performance with zero maintenance—far outlasting the 15–25-year lifespan of typical asphalt shingles you'd replace multiple times.
How much maintenance does a metal roof actually require in Somerville?
Nearly none. Unlike asphalt shingles, which deteriorate under UV and require inspection and repair every few years, or wood shake, which splits and rots in Somerville's 76 annual freeze-thaw cycles, aluminum roofing is classified by CALGreen as a reduced-maintenance material. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating resists dirt and algae, so your roof stays clean through 1065 mm of rain annually without chemical treatment. You never need to replace damaged shingles, re-caulk seams, or worry about moss or mold growth. Gutters and downspouts function normally; no specialized cleaning is required. Fallen branches should be removed promptly (as with any roof), and leaves kept clear from gutters. That's it. Over a 50-year lifespan, this translates to real money saved on repairs, re-roofing labor, and materials—money you keep in your pocket instead of spending it on roof maintenance.
Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt over the life of the roof?
Yes, because it's the last roof you'll buy. Asphalt shingles cost less upfront but require replacement every 15–25 years, meaning most homeowners buy 2–3 new roofs in their lifetime—each replacement involves tear-off, disposal, and new installation labor. A metal roof costs more initially but lasts 50+ years with a lifetime warranty for the original owner, eliminating re-roofing cycles. Multiply asphalt's replacement cost by 2 or 3, add inflation, and metal becomes dramatically cheaper over time. Additionally, energy-efficient colors reduce cooling costs by reflecting heat (up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance), and the roof adds resale value that asphalt doesn't. Current financing—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—makes the upfront barrier much lower. Calculate the true lifetime cost, not the first invoice, and metal roofing wins decisively for budget-conscious homeowners.
