| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |

What our customers are saying:
Long wait on materials, installation was good, but not what I would call great (some dents, some uneven areas). The overall project had the potential to be fantastic (due to the construction of the house) and it fell short of that, but still looks great. Also dissappointed that they could not provide me with a certification letter for the wind, hail, and fire resistance. So installation had no effect on my homeowners insurance. At my previous home in Texas, that was standard for all roofing contractors. See previous comments
This is the second review I have ever given. Absolutely couldn’t be happier about our new roof/skylights and the folks I dealt with during the whole process. Begins with the no pressure sales, support staff and ends with the people who did the work. Work was done in November and waited to give this review only because I wanted to see how it handled a Vermont winter and see if any issues came up. No issues, none! Not sure why, but I used a lot less oil this winter (colder and snowier winter than normal). Maybe my 30 years old skylights or something to do with the roof system? If you are on the fence about using Interlock Roofing or the Shake Shingle type of roof, my advice to you would be to get off the fence and pull the trigger!
Communications with the office could be improved. Dropping and losing nails and scraps in the snow is understandable but not picking up excess nails dropped while filling nail pouches is not okay. Also as a non smoker cigarette butts on the ground are definitely not okay.
We just put an Interlock metal roof on our house. We were very happy with Chris's presentation and and decided to move forward with them. They started when they said they would and the crew worked full days until it was complete. The install manager Paul stopped by multiple times and the crew chief, Nazar was very diligent. We look forward to many years ahead of trouble free living through Vermonts wind, rain, and snow. Thank you Chris, and the office staff.
Very pleased with the quality and appearance of the roofing. None No
Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value We were looking to replace our shingle roof with a standing seam metal roof for our home in Vermont. We called over ten roofing contractors and received quotes from four of them. I had the best feeling about Interlock Roofing from the beginning, mostly due to my interactions with Mark. Additionally, they were the most competitive on price. Once we committed and signed a contract, we dealt with Jennifer and Paul to coordinate and complete the installation. They were incredibly responsive, and timely, and the entire project was completed in four days. Such a pleasure to work with. The entire process was seamless, and the roof looks phenomenal. Very pleased overall. Service: Roof installation
Positive: Professionalism, Quality, Responsiveness, Value Professional, pleasant & responsive staff (Jonathan & Jennifer). The roof is beautiful to look at & highly functional. There was a delay in installation because of VT weather, but that was unavoidable. Jonathan reached out to us after two years to check on us & the roof, which we thought was very considerate & just good business practice. We are very happy with the roof & would recommend Interlock to any of our friends. Service: Roof installation
I have two concerns/complaints about my new Interlock roof. A few places along the ridge cap appear raised - instead of being completely straight and level horizontally, there are a few places where two shingles meet in a slightly raised, A-shape. Also there are several places on the porch roof and on the roof between the garage and main house where the shingles are depressed - flattened or "crushed concavely". My guess is it's from being knelt on by the installers and I don't like how it looks. I was told the roof would be installed in October. It wasn't started until November and it wasn't finished until a week before Christmas. The installers endured terribly cold and wet weather and I'm concerned it affected the quality of the installation.
Scheduling vs. actual appearance of crew (as above) could have been communicated more clearly. It seems the project was pushed into late December causing my concern as to low temperature (zero \*F) affecting product and installation. So far though, the workmanship and function appears to be at 100%. A few major wind storms since completion had no ill effect, and the intense rain storms have resulted in no penetration into the home. (I could not say that prior to installation!)

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Averill
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Averill, Vermont. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Averill.
How does a metal roof handle Averill's heavy snow load and ice dams?
Metal roofs shed snow more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface prevents snow from bonding; Averill receives about 216 cm of snow annually, and the four-way interlocking panels create a continuous, tight plane that resists ice dam formation. The lightweight aluminum—about 96% lighter than slate or tile—means your home's frame carries minimal additional load even when snow accumulates. Snow guards can be added if you want to manage runoff, but the panel geometry and reflective coating naturally discourage the freeze-bond cycles that plague darker asphalt roofs in your 86 annual freeze-thaw days.
Will freeze-thaw cycling damage my metal roof over time?
No. Aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched and cannot rust, making it immune to the freeze-thaw deterioration that splits asphalt and rots wood. Averill experiences about 86 freeze-thaw days per year and receives roughly 877 mm of annual rainfall—conditions that would accelerate damage to traditional materials. The 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloys used in Interlock panels are specified under ASTM B209 and maintain their structural integrity through unlimited freeze-thaw cycles. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating, warranted 30 years against chalking, protects the substrate from chemical corrosion that salt or road spray can cause in northern climates.
Why is aluminum better than steel for a Vermont roof?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element responsible for rust formation in steel roofs. Instead, aluminum develops a natural oxide layer that actually protects the underlying metal; if scratched, this layer self-heals. In salt-air and freeze-thaw environments like Averill's, where about 216 cm of snow and 877 mm of rain fall yearly, steel roofs will eventually corrode despite coatings. Interlock panels ship with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish applied to both sides—extra coverage that's particularly valuable in harsh climates. The Guardian warranty covers rusting (along with rotting, splitting, and cracking) for the original owner's lifetime, then transfers with 50 years of coverage for the next owner.
Can a metal roof survive Averill's winter wind gusts?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, and Averill's typical gusts reach about 120 km/h (roughly 75 mph)—well within rated capacity. The interlocking design means each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof system rather than concentrating stress on fasteners. Essex County experiences variable winter wind, but Interlock's UL-listed installation method, detailed in ICC-ES ESR-1790, ensures compliance with IBC and IRC wind-load standards. When installed to specification over a solid deck with proper underlayment, the roof becomes a unified, aerodynamic surface that flexes rather than fails.
Will my homeowner's insurance give me a discount for a hail-resistant metal roof?
Many insurers do offer discounts for roofs with UL 2218 Class 4 impact ratings—the highest hail-resistance classification available. Interlock metal roofing qualifies and carries a warranty that even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 designation and the product's hail warranty details; some policies reward Class 4 roofs with 10–15% premium reductions. Given Averill's variable weather (about 2705 sunshine hours but also significant snow and wind), a durable roof can lower your long-term insurance and maintenance costs. The lifetime material warranty removes the risk of unexpected hail damage claims later.
Do I need to reinforce my house frame for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's lightweight aluminum panels—the Cedar Shingle installs at roughly 0.41 lb/sq ft, the Mediterranean Tile at about 0.59 lb/sq ft—weigh about 96% less than concrete or clay tile. Most existing homes built to support asphalt shingles (roughly 2–3 lb/sq ft) will easily handle metal roofing, often with spare structural capacity. The four-way interlocking design distributes the minimal load evenly across your roof deck. Because Averill receives about 216 cm of snow annually, that lightweight design is a real benefit—accumulated snow won't strain your framing the way heavier slate or tile would, and installation can usually proceed over your existing roof without costly structural work.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really require?
Far less than asphalt, wood shake, or tile. Metal roofs don't require regular sealing, re-coating, or repairs for splits, curls, or rot—eliminating the ongoing expense of traditional materials. Interlock's Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading per ASTM D4214 and D2244, means no repainting or restoration. Occasional gutter cleaning and debris removal are standard for any roof. The panels' smooth, hard surface sheds debris naturally, and Averill's 877 mm annual rainfall provides natural cleaning. The Guardian warranty's CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance burden. Over a 30–50 year lifespan, you'll spend a fraction of what asphalt demands, freeing up budget for other home investments.
What does the warranty actually cover, and how long does it last?
The Guardian is a lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner—non-prorated, meaning no reduction in coverage over time. It covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. Upon transfer, the next owner receives 50 years of coverage from project completion. This one-time transferability makes your roof a genuine selling point when you move. The Alunar coating carries a separate 30-year warranty against fading and chalking. Paired with the UL 2218 Class 4 hail rating and 120 mph wind warranty, you're protected against the common failure modes in Averill's climate—freeze-thaw cycling, heavy snow (about 216 cm/year), gusts to 120 km/h, and impact damage. Few roofing products offer this combination of duration and scope.
Is a metal roof really cheaper than asphalt over the long term?
Yes, when you calculate total cost over the roof's life. Asphalt shingles last 15–20 years and need replacement twice or three times in the span of one Interlock metal roof. Each tear-off, disposal, and reinstallation costs thousands; metal roofs eliminate that cycle. Interlock's non-prorated lifetime warranty and 50-year transferable coverage mean you buy one roof, not three or four. Annual maintenance and repairs also favor metal—no resealing, no algae treatment, no leak repairs from curled shingles. In Averill, where about 86 freeze-thaw days and 216 cm of snow accelerate asphalt degradation, this advantage compounds. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. Over 40–50 years, the upfront investment typically nets thousands in savings.
Can you install a metal roof over my existing asphalt shingles?
Yes. Because Interlock panels weigh just 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft, installation often proceeds over existing asphalt without removal—saving time, labor, and landfill waste. Our installation team, serving the region since 1999 as Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc., assesses your deck condition and existing layers to confirm the method for your home. If removal is needed, we handle it responsibly. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation (reissued 2025) documents approved installation methods for both new construction and retrofit applications over existing roofs. The process typically takes days, not weeks. Proper underlayment and fastening per spec ensure compliance with IBC and IRC wind and snow-load standards. Your local installer will confirm the timeline and walk you through the transition from start to inspected completion.
