Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for East Haven, Vermont
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Long wait on materials, installation was good, but not what I would call great (some dents, some uneven areas). The overall project had the potential to be fantastic (due to the construction of the house) and it fell short of that, but still looks great. Also dissappointed that they could not provide me with a certification letter for the wind, hail, and fire resistance. So installation had no effect on my homeowners insurance. At my previous home in Texas, that was standard for all roofing contractors. See previous comments
This is the second review I have ever given. Absolutely couldn’t be happier about our new roof/skylights and the folks I dealt with during the whole process. Begins with the no pressure sales, support staff and ends with the people who did the work. Work was done in November and waited to give this review only because I wanted to see how it handled a Vermont winter and see if any issues came up. No issues, none! Not sure why, but I used a lot less oil this winter (colder and snowier winter than normal). Maybe my 30 years old skylights or something to do with the roof system? If you are on the fence about using Interlock Roofing or the Shake Shingle type of roof, my advice to you would be to get off the fence and pull the trigger!
Communications with the office could be improved. Dropping and losing nails and scraps in the snow is understandable but not picking up excess nails dropped while filling nail pouches is not okay. Also as a non smoker cigarette butts on the ground are definitely not okay.
We just put an Interlock metal roof on our house. We were very happy with Chris's presentation and and decided to move forward with them. They started when they said they would and the crew worked full days until it was complete. The install manager Paul stopped by multiple times and the crew chief, Nazar was very diligent. We look forward to many years ahead of trouble free living through Vermonts wind, rain, and snow. Thank you Chris, and the office staff.
Very pleased with the quality and appearance of the roofing. None No
Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value We were looking to replace our shingle roof with a standing seam metal roof for our home in Vermont. We called over ten roofing contractors and received quotes from four of them. I had the best feeling about Interlock Roofing from the beginning, mostly due to my interactions with Mark. Additionally, they were the most competitive on price. Once we committed and signed a contract, we dealt with Jennifer and Paul to coordinate and complete the installation. They were incredibly responsive, and timely, and the entire project was completed in four days. Such a pleasure to work with. The entire process was seamless, and the roof looks phenomenal. Very pleased overall. Service: Roof installation
Positive: Professionalism, Quality, Responsiveness, Value Professional, pleasant & responsive staff (Jonathan & Jennifer). The roof is beautiful to look at & highly functional. There was a delay in installation because of VT weather, but that was unavoidable. Jonathan reached out to us after two years to check on us & the roof, which we thought was very considerate & just good business practice. We are very happy with the roof & would recommend Interlock to any of our friends. Service: Roof installation
I have two concerns/complaints about my new Interlock roof. A few places along the ridge cap appear raised - instead of being completely straight and level horizontally, there are a few places where two shingles meet in a slightly raised, A-shape. Also there are several places on the porch roof and on the roof between the garage and main house where the shingles are depressed - flattened or "crushed concavely". My guess is it's from being knelt on by the installers and I don't like how it looks. I was told the roof would be installed in October. It wasn't started until November and it wasn't finished until a week before Christmas. The installers endured terribly cold and wet weather and I'm concerned it affected the quality of the installation.
Scheduling vs. actual appearance of crew (as above) could have been communicated more clearly. It seems the project was pushed into late December causing my concern as to low temperature (zero \*F) affecting product and installation. So far though, the workmanship and function appears to be at 100%. A few major wind storms since completion had no ill effect, and the intense rain storms have resulted in no penetration into the home. (I could not say that prior to installation!)

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in East Haven
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in East Haven, Vermont. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in East Haven.
How does a metal roof handle East Haven's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because the smooth surface and thermal properties resist ice dam buildup. East Haven receives about 187 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 89 freeze-thaw days per year—conditions that crack and curl asphalt shingles but don't affect aluminum. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels stay watertight through repeated freeze cycles because aluminum's oxide layer doesn't degrade with temperature swings. The panels are also light enough to install without structural reinforcement, so no added cost there either.
Why won't a metal roof rust in Vermont's wet climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes. Instead, aluminum forms a protective oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, which matters in a state averaging 897 mm of annual rainfall. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) coated on both sides with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. This two-sided coating is especially critical in damp northern climates where moisture exposure is constant.
Can a metal roof survive Vermont wind gusts without leaking?
Yes—Interlock panels are warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph when installed to specification, and East Haven's typical wind gusts reach about 117 km/h (73 mph), with extreme gusts to 117 km/h recorded. The four-way interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors on all sides, creating a unified structure that resists uplift and racking. Unlike asphalt shingles, which can lift and separate in high winds, Interlock's mechanical fastening and overlap geometry mean no nails to back out and no seams to peel.
Is a metal roof light enough to go over my existing asphalt shingles?
Yes, aluminum's extreme light weight makes retrofit installation possible without structural work. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—and even the Shake profile comes in at 0.58 lb/sq ft. Most existing roof framing designed for asphalt shingles (which weigh 2–3 lb/sq ft) will safely carry metal with room to spare. Your roofer can install Interlock directly over your current roof, eliminating tear-off costs and landfill fees, which saves time and money in a climate like East Haven that demands fast, reliable installation.
Does Interlock metal roofing hold up to hail and Vermont storms?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. While East Haven's climate records don't highlight severe hail as a recurring risk, the Class 4 rating gives you the same impact protection as a slate or concrete roof. Many insurance companies recognize this resilience and offer discounts on metal roofing premiums. You also get a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty, so any impact damage to the panel itself is covered for the life of your ownership.
Will repeated freeze-thaw cycles crack or damage metal roofing?
Aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but this causes no cracking, splitting, or curling because the material remains flexible and doesn't become brittle in cold. East Haven averages 89 freeze-thaw days per year, which would eventually degrade asphalt and wood shingles—but aluminum's oxide layer strengthens rather than weakens through thermal cycling. Interlock's warranty covers cracking and curling explicitly, reflecting decades of performance in climates far colder than Vermont. The two-sided Alunar coating resists UV and moisture damage regardless of seasonal temperature extremes.
What's the real lifespan of a metal roof, and what does the warranty cover?
Interlock offers a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty to the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. The warranty is one-time transferable, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from completion. This lifespan math is honest: most metal roofs last 50–70 years, well beyond the 20–30-year life of asphalt in Vermont's variable climate. Because Interlock has been manufactured since 1998 and installed from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations, long-term performance data exists. You're buying your last roof.
Is metal roofing worth the cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Over 50 years, metal typically costs less per year than asphalt's repeated replacement cycles. Asphalt lasts 20–30 years in Vermont's 187 cm annual snowfall and 897 mm rainfall, meaning two to three replacements and tear-offs; metal lasts 50–70 years with minimal maintenance. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation. Metal also avoids the labor and disposal costs of tearing off old shingles, transfers value to the next owner (50-year warranty term), and qualifies for some state energy credits if you choose energy-efficiency colors. The upfront cost difference narrows significantly when you factor in lifecycle.
Can metal roofing really look like slate, cedar shake, or tile?
Interlock profiles include Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile—each reproducing the visual profile and shadow lines of the original material without the weight, maintenance, or cost. The Slate profile mimics natural stone color variation; Cedar Shingle and Shake replicate wood texture and grain; Mediterranean Tile echoes the curved barrel look; Standing Seam offers a clean, modern aesthetic. Since aluminum weighs 96% less than real tile and requires no structural reinforcement, you get authentic curb appeal suited to East Haven's New England architecture without the engineering headaches and replacement cycles of genuine slate, wood, or ceramic.
How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need?
Interlock requires minimal upkeep: periodic debris clearing and occasional gutter cleaning, just like asphalt. You won't need to replace cracked or curled shingles, repair ice dam damage, treat wood rot, or recoat sealant. Asphalt shingles in Vermont's 89 freeze-thaw days per year fail prematurely; wood shakes split and curl; tile cracks from freeze cycling. Aluminum's oxide layer is self-healing and doesn't degrade with salt, UV, or moisture—the Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. With ~2816 annual sunshine hours in East Haven and consistent precipitation, Interlock's low-maintenance design means lower cost of ownership and no surprise repairs.
