| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
Long wait on materials, installation was good, but not what I would call great (some dents, some uneven areas). The overall project had the potential to be fantastic (due to the construction of the house) and it fell short of that, but still looks great. Also dissappointed that they could not provide me with a certification letter for the wind, hail, and fire resistance. So installation had no effect on my homeowners insurance. At my previous home in Texas, that was standard for all roofing contractors. See previous comments
This is the second review I have ever given. Absolutely couldn’t be happier about our new roof/skylights and the folks I dealt with during the whole process. Begins with the no pressure sales, support staff and ends with the people who did the work. Work was done in November and waited to give this review only because I wanted to see how it handled a Vermont winter and see if any issues came up. No issues, none! Not sure why, but I used a lot less oil this winter (colder and snowier winter than normal). Maybe my 30 years old skylights or something to do with the roof system? If you are on the fence about using Interlock Roofing or the Shake Shingle type of roof, my advice to you would be to get off the fence and pull the trigger!
Communications with the office could be improved. Dropping and losing nails and scraps in the snow is understandable but not picking up excess nails dropped while filling nail pouches is not okay. Also as a non smoker cigarette butts on the ground are definitely not okay.
We just put an Interlock metal roof on our house. We were very happy with Chris's presentation and and decided to move forward with them. They started when they said they would and the crew worked full days until it was complete. The install manager Paul stopped by multiple times and the crew chief, Nazar was very diligent. We look forward to many years ahead of trouble free living through Vermonts wind, rain, and snow. Thank you Chris, and the office staff.
Very pleased with the quality and appearance of the roofing. None No
Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value We were looking to replace our shingle roof with a standing seam metal roof for our home in Vermont. We called over ten roofing contractors and received quotes from four of them. I had the best feeling about Interlock Roofing from the beginning, mostly due to my interactions with Mark. Additionally, they were the most competitive on price. Once we committed and signed a contract, we dealt with Jennifer and Paul to coordinate and complete the installation. They were incredibly responsive, and timely, and the entire project was completed in four days. Such a pleasure to work with. The entire process was seamless, and the roof looks phenomenal. Very pleased overall. Service: Roof installation
Positive: Professionalism, Quality, Responsiveness, Value Professional, pleasant & responsive staff (Jonathan & Jennifer). The roof is beautiful to look at & highly functional. There was a delay in installation because of VT weather, but that was unavoidable. Jonathan reached out to us after two years to check on us & the roof, which we thought was very considerate & just good business practice. We are very happy with the roof & would recommend Interlock to any of our friends. Service: Roof installation
I have two concerns/complaints about my new Interlock roof. A few places along the ridge cap appear raised - instead of being completely straight and level horizontally, there are a few places where two shingles meet in a slightly raised, A-shape. Also there are several places on the porch roof and on the roof between the garage and main house where the shingles are depressed - flattened or "crushed concavely". My guess is it's from being knelt on by the installers and I don't like how it looks. I was told the roof would be installed in October. It wasn't started until November and it wasn't finished until a week before Christmas. The installers endured terribly cold and wet weather and I'm concerned it affected the quality of the installation.
Scheduling vs. actual appearance of crew (as above) could have been communicated more clearly. It seems the project was pushed into late December causing my concern as to low temperature (zero \*F) affecting product and installation. So far though, the workmanship and function appears to be at 100%. A few major wind storms since completion had no ill effect, and the intense rain storms have resulted in no penetration into the home. (I could not say that prior to installation!)

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Brunswick
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Brunswick, Vermont. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Brunswick.
Does a metal roof handle Vermont's heavy snow load and ice dams?
Metal roofs shed snow effectively because their smooth, hard surface resists ice dam formation—critical in Brunswick, which averages 283 cm of snow annually. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to 120 mph wind resistance, so they anchor securely even under wet snow weight. The standing seam and shake profiles shed meltwater quickly. Optional snow guards can be installed if you want to retain snow for insulation or prevent roof-to-ground slides. The non-corrosive aluminum remains structurally sound through all 84 annual freeze-thaw cycles this region experiences.
Why does aluminum roofing hold up through Vermont's freeze-thaw cycles?
Aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but unlike asphalt or wood shingles, it does not crack, curl, or become brittle—the oxide layer that forms on aluminum actually self-heals when scratched. With approximately 84 freeze-thaw days per year in Brunswick, this durability matters: while asphalt becomes fragile in repeated cold-thaw stress, aluminum's ASTM B209 3105-H24 alloy flexes and returns to shape. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, warranted for 30 years against chalking, also remains flexible through temperature extremes, unlike coatings that embrittle.
Will a metal roof rust in Vermont's wet climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—only iron-based metals rust. Instead, aluminum develops a thin, transparent oxide layer that protects the base metal and self-heals when scratched. This is why Interlock roofs have been installed from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations since 1998. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, applied to both sides of every panel, adds an extra protective layer warranted for 30 years against fading. In Brunswick's wet environment with frequent thawing, aluminum's corrosion resistance means no breakdown, no structural weakening, and no emergency repairs.
Can my house support a metal roof, or will I need to reinforce the structure?
No structural reinforcement is needed because Interlock's aluminum panels weigh extraordinarily little—the Slate profile installs at about 0.41 lb/sq ft, the Shake at roughly 0.58, and the Mediterranean Tile at just 0.59 lb/sq ft. This means the Tile profile is about 96% lighter than traditional concrete or clay tile. Interlock installs over most existing roofs in Brunswick without requiring beams or bracing, saving thousands in construction costs. The lightweight panels reduce stress during installation and mean your home's frame, already engineered to handle a roofing system, handles aluminum with no modification. Compare this to slate or clay tile, which demand costly structural upgrades before installation begins.
How does a metal roof perform in Vermont winter storms with high wind gusts?
Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification—far above the typical wind gusts to 129 km/h (about 80 mph) that Brunswick experiences. The interlocking design means each panel anchors to its neighbors as well as the deck, distributing force across the roof system rather than putting stress on individual fasteners. UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating confirms the panels resist hail up to 1.5 inches, a proxy for wind uplift resistance. Vermont's winter storms and ice-loaded gusts pose no risk to properly installed Interlock roofing.
Does a metal roof qualify for insurance discounts after hail damage?
Interlock's UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—demonstrates the roof can withstand hail up to 1.5 inches, and the warranty explicitly covers perforation from hailstones of this size. This resilience often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts with insurers who recognize reduced claims risk. Check with your agent, but carriers frequently reduce premiums for Class 4-rated roofs because hail claims drop dramatically. In regions like Brunswick that experience wind gusts to 129 km/h and repeated freeze-thaw stress, the combination of impact resistance and durability reduces the likelihood of weather-related damage claims overall.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need compared to asphalt or wood?
Interlock aluminum requires far less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or tile because aluminum does not rot, split, crack, or curl—eliminating the seasonal repairs those materials demand. Asphalt shingles deteriorate within 15-20 years in Brunswick's 283 cm of annual snow and 84 freeze-thaw cycles; wood shakes are vulnerable to rot in wet climates. Metal roofing is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. Periodic gutter cleaning and trim inspection suffice. Because the Alunar coating is warranted for 30 years against chalking and fading, you won't repaint. Over a 50-year timeframe, the maintenance cost difference pays for the initial investment.
What does Interlock's lifetime warranty actually cover and how long does it last?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty to the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—failures that plague asphalt and wood roofs during Brunswick's 84 annual freeze-thaw cycles. It is transferable once, giving the next owner 50 years from completion, which significantly increases resale value. Non-prorated means you pay nothing if a covered failure occurs in year 40. This warranty exists because Interlock's aluminum alloy (ASTM B209 3105-H24) and 30-year Alunar coating are built to outlast the structure itself, making this the last roof you'll install.
Is a metal roof more sustainable than asphalt shingles?
Yes. Interlock's aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end-of-life, ending the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle that burdens communities. Every time an asphalt roof is replaced, tons of material go to landfill; aluminum roofs are melted and reused indefinitely without degradation. The lightweight design also means lower transportation energy—crucial when manufactured in Delta, BC and shipped to Brunswick. Because the roof lasts 50+ years and requires minimal maintenance, it avoids the carbon and waste footprint of replacing asphalt every 15-20 years. energy-efficient colors with 0.84 emissivity also reduce heating demand during Burlington's 2816 annual sunshine hours, lowering operational emissions.
Will a metal roof reduce my heating and cooling costs in Vermont?
energy-efficient Interlock colors have thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), meaning they reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, reducing cooling load in summer and reflecting radiant warmth back into living spaces during winter. Though Vermont winters are cold, the reflective finish reduces the temperature differential between roof and interior, lowering heating demand. The panels are Cool Roof Rating Council rated. Over Brunswick's approximately 2816 annual sunshine hours, this efficiency compounds. Paired with the roof's durability—no tear-offs every 15 years—the energy advantage over asphalt extends across the roof's 50-year lifespan.
