Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Fairholm

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Fairholm, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Fairholm.

How does a metal roof handle Fairholm's heavy snow—won't ice dams form?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice better than asphalt because the smooth, interlocking aluminum surface offers less friction for buildup. Fairholm averages about 398 cm of snow annually, and that weight slides off rather than accumulating. Ice dams form when heat melts snow at the eaves, but metal's thermal properties and the ability to add snow guards mean you control how and when snow exits. The four-way interlocking panels keep water out even when ice backs up temporarily. Most ice-dam problems in this climate stem from inadequate ventilation under asphalt; metal eliminates that headache entirely.

Does aluminum hold up through Fairholm's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes, aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw conditions. With roughly 96 freeze-thaw days per year in Fairholm, your roof material needs to expand and contract without cracking or absorbing water. Aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched and cannot rust—meaning moisture entering micro-cracks won't degrade the metal or trap water that expands when frozen. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both panel sides (30-year warranty) protects against salt air and weather cycling. Steel roofs in this climate eventually corrode at cut edges; aluminum simply won't.

Why is an aluminum roof better than steel in a wet climate like Fairholm?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Steel does, and when exposed to Fairholm's 535 mm of annual rainfall plus salt air if you're near the coast, iron oxidizes and leaves permanent stains or structural damage. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) used in Interlock panels forms a transparent oxide layer that actually heals itself when scratched. Steel requires constant paint or coating renewal; aluminum's Alunar finish is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading but doesn't degrade the base material. Once aluminum's finish ages, the metal underneath remains uncompromised—the opposite of steel.

Can a metal roof withstand Fairholm's wind gusts?

Fairholm's typical gusts reach about 102 km/h, and Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec. The interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors in all four directions—no fasteners pulling through, no panels lifting or separating. This matters in a climate where winter storms are frequent and the mean daily-max wind speed is roughly 10 km/h but gusts surprise you. High-wind insurance claims on asphalt roofs are common; the mechanical lock-and-overlap design of metal makes those failures almost impossible.

Does a metal roof need repair after hail?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. In Fairholm, hail is less common than snow, but the Class 4 rating means your roof shrugs off impacts that crack or puncture asphalt, wood shake, or tile. Many insurance companies recognize this durability and offer premium discounts on metal roofs with Class 4 ratings. That's real money back over the roof's life. Unlike asphalt (which chalks and cracks from impact), aluminum's impact resistance doesn't degrade—it remains constant whether the roof was installed 5 years ago or 25.

Is a metal roof light enough to install over my existing shingles in Fairholm?

Yes. The Interlock Slate installs at about 0.41 lb/sq ft, and the Mediterranean Tile profile weighs roughly 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This means no structural reinforcement is needed and the roof installs directly over most existing asphalt or wood-shake roofs. That saves thousands in framing upgrades and labor. Over-roofing eliminates a costly tear-off and dump fees, keeping asphalt out of landfills. Fairholm homes built in the 1970s through 1990s typically have standard framing rated for asphalt; metal installs without asking the structure to bear extra load.

Will a metal roof reduce cooling costs or help in Fairholm's climate?

Fairholm receives roughly 3289 sunshine hours per year and experiences cold winters (mean 8.5°C), so your priority is heat retention in winter and shedding excess heat in summer to reduce air-conditioning run time. energy-efficient Interlock colors have thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55, meaning they reflect heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into living space. This cuts cooling demand on summer days and reduces thermal stress on the roof itself, extending its life. The reflectance also helps winter snow melt more slowly, reducing ice-dam risk during the 96 freeze-thaw cycles Fairholm experiences annually.

What's the real warranty on an Interlock metal roof, and does it transfer?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no time limit. It's one-time transferable to the next owner, who receives 50 years of coverage from the completion date. This means when you sell, the new owner inherits decades of protection. No other roofing material offers that combination. Most homeowners in Fairholm buy a house expecting the roof to last the ownership period; a transferable warranty actually delivers that and adds value for the buyer, making the home more attractive and easier to sell.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or tile?

Aluminum metal roofing requires almost no maintenance. Asphalt shingles need moss or algae cleaning every 2-3 years in Fairholm's wet climate (535 mm rain annually), and individual shingles curl, crack, or blow off. Wood shake absorbs moisture, rots, and requires annual inspection and treatment. Concrete or clay tile cracks in freeze-thaw cycles like Fairholm's 96 annual freeze-thaw days. Interlock aluminum is verified CALGreen-compliant for reduced maintenance—you simply don't have the material problems that plague other roofs. An annual gutter cleaning is all most homeowners do. The non-corrosive aluminum and durable Alunar finish mean no staining, no paint renewal, and no material degradation from weather cycling.

Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Fairholm, and how long have they been around?

Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the Pacific Northwest region since 1997, with deep knowledge of Fairholm's wet winters, heavy snow (about 120 cm annually), and frequent freeze-thaw cycling. They understand the local building code, wind-load requirements, and the climate-specific details that separate a good installation from a problem roof. The company is the local factory-trained installer, meaning they know the ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation report (IBC/IRC compliant) and the four-way interlocking system better than any roofer learning from a manual. Right now they're offering no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation, so this is a good time to get a local professional's assessment.
