Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Wellesley, Massachusetts
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Expensive but quality was good. My son had the same installation done at his house across the street and they left a mess over there so i say that i got the best crew.
Better communication and respect for my properly. Clean the area and be safe Very disappointed in the staff, problem resolution , schedule time it took 6 months to schedule. Also the manager was rude and not apologetic with problem resolution.
Michael was very personable and easy to work with.
Communication with install crew was difficult. No one spoke fluent English. and when received a call from install supervisor it was difficult to understand him.Other then trying to communicate with the crew, the crew worked late into the evening and did a great job. I understand it not easy to find good workers. The crew was polite and work hard and did great work, but a person who could speak English on the crew would be nice.
I was really disappointed.
I would have liked to have seen a company rep visit the worksite at some point during the job. The roof looks beautiful,i did not hear any difference with heavy rain noise. I thought the metal would be more noisy than the asphalt shingles.I was told by the neighbors it looks just like real slate,i also love the slate look nice!
Yes. It just looks so good and you will never have to replace it. As mentioned above, communication, especially if there is a scope of work change, should be done as soon as possible. I really love my new roof. The cost was more than twice what I would have paid for a high-end "architectural" asphalt roof; but the longevity and look of the new roof is worth it. I know I will never have to think about my roof ever again. I have gotten many complements already from our neighbors, and many think it's a real slate roof (it looks that good).

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Wellesley
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Wellesley.
How does a metal roof handle Wellesley's snow and ice buildup?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface prevents adhesion that causes ice dams. Wellesley receives about 120 cm of snow annually across roughly 93 freeze-thaw cycles, making this durability critical. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels remain dimensionally stable through repeated freezing and thawing—asphalt becomes brittle and cracks under the same stress. You can add snow guards if desired, and the lightweight design (our Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement needed, even with snow load.
Will freeze-thaw cycles in Massachusetts damage an aluminum metal roof?
No; aluminum's physical properties actually improve with thermal cycling. Roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy expands and contracts uniformly without cracking, splitting, or losing integrity—the exact problems that plague asphalt and wood in climates with 93 annual freeze-thaw days like Wellesley's. The oxide layer that forms on aluminum is self-healing; if scratched, it regenerates automatically, so salt spray and moisture from your 1,058 mm of annual rainfall won't trigger corrosion. That's why Interlock roofs function flawlessly from coastal homes to Antarctic research stations.
Can an aluminum metal roof rust in a wet climate like Wellesley?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes in steel. With 1,058 mm of annual rainfall and salt-air proximity, this distinction matters enormously. Instead, aluminum develops a transparent, self-healing oxide layer that actually protects the underlying metal. Interlock panels are coated on both sides with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading per ASTM D4214. Even if the coating is scratched, the aluminum substrate won't rust; it simply regenerates its oxide protection, giving you peace of mind for decades.
Are metal roofs safe in Wellesley's wind storms?
Yes. Wellesley experiences typical wind gusts around 104 km/h, and Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification—significantly higher than your region's peak gusts. The interlocking design creates a unified, rigid system that distributes wind load across the entire roof rather than stressing individual fasteners. This engineering, combined with our lightweight aluminum construction, means the roof stays firmly anchored without the structural strain that heavy materials impose. Your home stays protected during nor'easters and spring storms.
Do I need to reinforce my home's framing for a metal roof?
Structural reinforcement is almost never needed. Our Mediterranean Tile profile—which replicates the visual weight and elegance of clay or concrete tile—weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it about 96% lighter than the real thing. Compare that to the 10+ lb/sq ft of traditional tile, and you see why Interlock installs directly over most existing roofs without framing upgrades. Wellesley homes built for asphalt (which weighs roughly 3–5 lb/sq ft) can absolutely support aluminum. You avoid costly structural work, reduce stress on your home's framing, and still get the architectural detail you want.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Over the roof's lifetime, metal is the last roof you'll buy. Asphalt typically lasts 15–20 years and requires replacement twice in 50 years; Interlock carries a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner and is transferable for 50 years to the next owner. That eliminates two costly tear-offs and landfill fees. Maintenance is negligible versus annual asphalt inspections and repairs. Energy savings from energy-efficient colors (solar reflectance up to 0.55) reduce cooling costs. Current financing offers zero payments and zero interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation, making the true cost per year dramatically lower than repeat asphalt cycles.
Will a metal roof reduce my homeowner insurance premium after hail damage?
Hail resistance is a major insurance consideration. Interlock roofs carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this non-combustible, impact-resistant metal as a premium material and offer discounts on homeowner policies. Combined with our Class A fire rating and wind resistance warranted to 120 mph, you present an insurer with a low-risk asset. While we cannot guarantee specific discounts (those vary by carrier), contacting your agent with Interlock's UL and ICC certifications often leads to meaningful savings, especially valuable in a region where severe weather can strike quickly.
How much maintenance does an aluminum metal roof really need?
Virtually none compared to traditional materials. Asphalt requires annual inspections, granule replacement, and flashing repairs; wood shake splits and rots; tile cracks and leaks. Interlock aluminum simply sheds debris with rain—your 1,058 mm annual rainfall does the cleaning. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against fading and chalking, so it doesn't degrade or require repainting. Gutters may need seasonal clearing, but the roof itself remains maintenance-free. This low-touch durability, verified by CALGreen and ICC-ES ESR-1790, frees your time and budget from the constant repair cycle that asphalt, wood, and tile demand.
Can a metal roof be installed over my existing asphalt shingles?
Yes, in most cases. Interlock's lightweight design (Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft) allows installation directly over a structurally sound existing roof, eliminating tear-off costs and landfill waste. Our local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc., serving the region since 1999, assesses your current roof during a site visit and determines the best approach for your home. If tear-off is needed, aluminum is fully recyclable—about 95% of the material returns to the recycling stream rather than a landfill. Installation typically takes days, not weeks. The solid deck and underlayment beneath the panels ensure the roof performs as quietly as asphalt in Wellesley's frequent rainfall.
Is an aluminum metal roof better for the environment than asphalt?
Dramatically so. Asphalt roofs end their 15–20 year life in landfills, creating waste that never decomposes; Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable and returns to productive use indefinitely. Manufacturing aluminum does require energy, but the material's longevity (lifetime warranty for the original owner, 50-year transferable term for the next) means far fewer roofing cycles over 100 years. You avoid the repeated tear-offs, transportation, and landfill footprint of asphalt replacement. Interlock has manufactured durable roofs since 1998 in Delta, BC, minimizing the environmental cost per year of service. Choosing aluminum breaks the asphalt cycle and aligns your home with responsible resource stewardship.
