| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |

What our customers are saying:
From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!
Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!
To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />
Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!
Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!
Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.
Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.
Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.
My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.
I love my new roof. It looks great and I know the house is in better shape without the heavy deteriorating asphalt shingles. My house is the only one on the block with no snow on the roof, and I can't wait to hear it in the rain
We are delighted with the workmanship and quality of our new roof. It has exceeded our expectations, and we highly recommend an Interlock Roof to anyone looking to replace an old roof.
Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Lone Elm
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Lone Elm, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Lone Elm.
How does a metal roof handle Lone Elm's snow load and ice dams?
Aluminum panels shed snow and ice more efficiently than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface prevents water from re-freezing at the eaves—critical in a region that sees about 101 cm of annual snow and roughly 77 freeze-thaw cycles per year. The four-way interlocking system remains watertight through thermal cycling, and optional snow guards can be installed to manage snow release. Unlike asphalt, which softens and allows ice to adhere, Interlock's aluminum oxide coating maintains its rigidity through repeated freeze-thaw stress, eliminating the decay that shortens asphalt life in climates like yours.
Why won't an aluminum roof rust in Minnesota winters?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes in wet, cold conditions. Instead, aluminum forms a self-healing oxide layer that seals the surface; when scratched or damaged, it automatically reforms. This matters in Wright County, where 557 mm of annual rainfall and frequent freeze-thaw cycles expose roofing to constant moisture and temperature swings. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, applied to both sides of every panel, adds 30 years of additional chalking and fading protection. Steel roofing, by contrast, requires constant paint maintenance to prevent rust formation.
Will my metal roof crack or degrade from Minnesota's freeze-thaw cycling?
No. Aluminum expands and contracts minimally during the roughly 77 annual freeze-thaw days in Lone Elm, and the material never becomes brittle in cold. Unlike asphalt shingles, which become rigid below freezing and crack under thermal stress, or wood shingles, which split as moisture freezes inside the grain, aluminum maintains its flexibility and structural integrity across the full temperature range. The 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 alloy used in Interlock panels (ASTM B209 certified) has been installed from coastal homes to an Antarctic research station, where conditions far exceed Minnesota's winter severity. ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms performance in freeze-thaw climates.
Can my home's frame support a metal roof, or will I need to reinforce it?
No reinforcement needed. Interlock's Cedar Shingle profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft—so light that your existing roof structure will actually experience less load than it does now. The Mediterranean Tile profile, despite looking like heavy clay or concrete tile, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft and is roughly 96% lighter than traditional tile. This means you can install Interlock directly over your existing asphalt roof without tear-off or structural upgrades. In Lone Elm's 557 mm annual rainfall and 101 cm snow load, that low weight is an advantage: less strain on rafters, better drainage performance, and no need for costly foundation or framing work.
Will a metal roof stay put in Minnesota's high winds and gusts?
Yes. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Lone Elm experiences typical daily winds around 19 km/h with gusts reaching about 103 km/h—well within that capacity. The four-way mechanical interlocking system (panel-to-panel and to the deck) distributes wind load across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. This design has proven itself in coastal storm zones and extreme-wind regions. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, fail when nails loosen or shingles blow free; once compromised, they expose underlayment to water infiltration, starting the decay cycle.
What's my protection against hail damage in Lone Elm?
Interlock holds a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and your warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 means the panels pass the most rigorous impact tests and retain their full performance after impact. Some insurers offer premium discounts for Class 4 metal roofs because claims are rare and repair costs are lower than asphalt replacement. In Minnesota's severe weather season, that impact resistance prevents the granule loss, bruising, and punctures that plague asphalt shingles and lead to leaks within 2-3 years. You're also protected by The Guardian lifetime limited warranty, which covers loss of impact resistance over the long term.
Can a metal roof lower my cooling costs in summer?
Yes, especially with energy-efficient colors. Interlock's reflective coatings (up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance on Aged Copper Penny, with thermal emissivity of 0.84) reflect the heat that asphalt absorbs, keeping the attic cooler and reducing air-conditioning demand. At about 3,098 annual sunshine hours in Lone Elm, that reflection adds up over time. The Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms the performance gain over dark asphalt. In a typical summer, this translates to lower utility bills and reduced peak-load strain on your HVAC system. Combined with aluminum's non-corrosive durability over decades, the energy savings help offset the initial investment.
What warranty comes with an Interlock roof, and how long will it really last?
The Guardian warranty is a non-prorated lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's also one-time transferable to the next owner for 50 years from completion, adding significant resale value in Lone Elm's competitive market. No other roofing warranty combines lifetime coverage with a half-century transfer term. Asphalt shingles carry 20-30 year prorated warranties that decline annually; by year 10, you're covering most replacement costs yourself. Interlock's aluminum construction and 30-year Alunar coating warranty ensure the roof will outlast multiple generations of asphalt, making it truly the last roof you'll buy.
How much upkeep does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Virtually none. Aluminum requires no sealant reapplication, no restaining, no granule replacement, and no fear of rot. Asphalt shingles lose granules in rain and wind, exposing the mat to UV decay; wood shingles split, cup, and need restaining every 7-10 years; slate and tile can crack and require specialist repairs. Interlock's solid aluminum construction sheds debris naturally, and the CALGreen-verified low-maintenance design means you inspect gutters in spring and fall—the same routine you'd do anyway. Over 40+ years of Lone Elm's 557 mm annual rainfall and temperature swings, this translates to no emergency repairs, no mid-life restoration costs, and predictable long-term ownership. The 30-year coating warranty ensures color retention without fading or chalking.
How long does installation take, and can you install over my existing roof?
Most residential installations take 2-5 days depending on roof size and complexity. Yes, you can install Interlock directly over your existing asphalt roof in most cases—no tear-off required. This saves money, eliminates landfill waste, and keeps your home watertight throughout the project. The installer (Interlock Metal Roofing, serving the region since 2001) flashes valleys and penetrations to code (ICC-ES ESR-1790), ensuring performance in Lone Elm's 557 mm annual rainfall and 101 cm snow conditions. The lightweight aluminum panels (0.41-0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile) are easier to handle than heavy slate or tile, speeding installation and reducing labor risk. A detailed site inspection confirms your existing structure can support the new roof and identifies any repairs needed beforehand.
