What our customers are saying:
From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!
Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!
To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />
Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!
Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!
Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.
Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.
Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.
My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.
I love my new roof. It looks great and I know the house is in better shape without the heavy deteriorating asphalt shingles. My house is the only one on the block with no snow on the roof, and I can't wait to hear it in the rain
We are delighted with the workmanship and quality of our new roof. It has exceeded our expectations, and we highly recommend an Interlock Roof to anyone looking to replace an old roof.
Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Tufton
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Tufton, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Tufton.
How does a metal roof handle Minnesota snow loads and ice dams?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice efficiently because the smooth, hard surface prevents buildup—unlike asphalt shingles that trap moisture. Tufton receives about 101 cm of snow annually, and the lightweight design (the Shingle profile is just 0.41 lb/sq ft) means your home's structure carries almost no additional burden even when snow accumulates. Metal's thermal properties also help: the Alunar® 70% PVDF coating reflects incoming solar energy rather than absorbing it like asphalt does, reducing the freeze-thaw cycle that creates ice dams. With about 77 freeze-thaw days per year locally, that matters. Optional snow guards are available if you want to manage slide-off in specific zones.
Why won't my metal roof rust like steel roofs do?
Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy, which contains no iron—the element that rusts. Instead, aluminum naturally forms a protective oxide layer that actually self-heals when scratched or damaged. The Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of every panel, creating an extra corrosion barrier especially valuable in freeze-thaw climates like Tufton, where moisture cycles are relentless (about 557 mm rain per year plus 101 cm snow). Even if a panel gets scraped during installation or a branch brushes it, the oxide layer regenerates automatically. This dual protection means your roof won't degrade from rust regardless of Minnesota winters.
Will freeze-thaw cycling in Minnesota damage an aluminum roof?
No. Aluminum actually thrives through freeze-thaw cycles because it doesn't absorb water, crack from ice expansion, or rot like wood or asphalt do. Tufton experiences roughly 77 freeze-thaw days per year—temperature swings that would soften asphalt shingles or splinter wood shakes. Aluminum's crystalline structure is unaffected by repeated freezing and thawing. The Alunar® 70% PVDF coating, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214/D2244 tested), remains flexible through these cycles. Your roof won't curl, crack, or lose its finish. The panels' four-way interlocking system ensures water drains instantly rather than pooling in seams where it could freeze and expand—a common failure mode for other materials in Minnesota.
Can an aluminum metal roof handle Minnesota wind gusts?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are engineered to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph—well above what Tufton typically experiences. Local gusts average around 103 km/h (64 mph), so your roof carries a safety margin of nearly double. The interlocking system means each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than concentrating stress on fasteners. This is verified in ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 (2025). Combined with proper installation over a solid deck and compatible underlayment, the roof won't lift, peel, or separate during spring storms or the occasional severe weather that strikes Wright County. The warranty explicitly covers wind damage up to spec.
What's the hail rating on Interlock metal roofing, and can it lower my insurance?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 means the roof withstands impacts that would destroy asphalt or wood shakes. Many homeowners in hail-prone regions (Minnesota experiences severe spring and summer storms) qualify for insurance discounts on aluminum roofs rated Class 3 or higher. Contact your insurer with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating to ask about premium reductions. The non-combustible aluminum also may lower fire insurance costs in some cases. Over a 50-year lifespan, these discounts can recover a meaningful portion of your roofing investment.
Do I need to reinforce my house structure for a metal roof?
No. Interlock's aluminum panels are extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile, for example, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Your existing roof structure was engineered to carry asphalt shingles (roughly 2–3 lb/sq ft), so aluminum is a fraction of that load. Even homes with older framing easily support it. Because the panels are so light, Interlock often installs directly over your existing roof, eliminating tear-off labor and landfill costs. This works even on homes where structural reinforcement would be prohibitively expensive. Your local Interlock installer, serving the region since 2001, can assess your specific roof during a free estimate and confirm whether overlay installation is viable for your home.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?
Interlock aluminum roofs require virtually no maintenance beyond occasional gutter cleaning and removing debris—far less than asphalt, wood, or tile. Asphalt shingles need regular inspection for granule loss and cupping, wood shakes need treatment against rot and insect damage, and clay tile needs sealing and mortar repair. Aluminum won't rot, split, curl, or lose impact resistance. The Alunar® 70% PVDF finish is proven against chalking and fading over 30 years (ASTM D4214/D2244 certified), so repainting isn't necessary. In Tufton's climate—about 3,098 sunshine hours per year with significant rain and snow—a self-cleaning metal surface means you avoid the costly maintenance cycles that plague traditional materials. This durability is backed by the Guardian lifetime limited warranty for the original owner.
How long does it take to install an Interlock metal roof?
Installation timelines depend on your roof size and whether it's an overlay (over existing shingles) or a tear-off. Most residential roofs in Tufton complete in 2–4 days. Overlays are faster because there's no demolition; your contractor installs underlayment and panels directly over your current roof, provided the deck is sound. Tear-offs take longer but are necessary if your existing roof is compromised. Either way, the four-way interlocking system speeds installation compared to standing seam or traditional materials—panels lock together quickly, and fastening is straightforward. Your local Interlock installer, operating in the region since 2001, will provide a detailed timeline during your consultation. Weather delays are minimal because aluminum can be installed in most conditions (though ice and heavy rain may pause work).
Is an Interlock metal roof worth the higher upfront cost?
Interlock aluminum roofing costs more upfront than asphalt shingles—typically 2–3 times the material price—but the lifetime comparison is dramatically different. Asphalt shingles last 15–20 years and require replacement, tear-off fees, and landfill disposal each cycle; over 50 years you'll install three roofs and pay three sets of labor and disposal costs. Interlock's Guardian warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, transferable to the next owner for 50 years. One roof lasts the life of your home—no replacements, no landfill waste, no maintenance costs. When you calculate labor, disposal, and materials over five decades, aluminum is cheaper. You also recoup part of the cost via potential insurance discounts (hail Class 4 rating, non-combustible fire rating) and resale value. This is genuinely the last roof you'll buy.
Will a metal roof reduce my cooling costs in summer?
Yes, especially if you choose an energy-efficient color. Interlock offers colors with thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), certified by the Cool Roof Rating Council. These colors reflect incoming solar heat rather than absorbing it like dark asphalt shingles do. In Tufton, with about 3,098 sunshine hours annually, that reflection matters during warm months. The reduction varies by roof color, attic ventilation, and insulation, but energy-efficient metal roofs typically lower cooling energy use by 10–25% compared to conventional asphalt. Winter heating isn't negatively affected because the reflective properties don't prevent normal heat loss. Combined with the roof's longevity—no tear-off-every-20-years cycles that waste embodied energy—and ~95% aluminum recyclability, the total lifecycle energy benefit is substantial.
