Review: August 20, 2024 Completion: August 13, 2024

From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!

Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!

To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />

Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!

Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!

Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.

Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.

Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.

Review: January 28, 2016 Completion: December 28, 2015

My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.

Review: May 21, 2012 Completion: June 30, 2007

Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Prairie Center

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Prairie Center, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Prairie Center.

How does a metal roof handle Prairie Center's snow and ice buildup?

Metal roofs shed snow better than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface resists ice adhesion and slides snow off safely when conditions allow. With about 95 cm of snow annually and nearly 79 freeze-thaw days per year in this region, the smooth aluminum panel faces—whether Slate, Cedar Shingle, or Shake—prevent snow from bonding. Four-way interlocking panels also resist uplift during wind gusts reaching 94 km/h. Snow guards can be installed where desired. Unlike asphalt shingles that deteriorate faster under repeated freeze-thaw stress, aluminum's oxide layer self-heals and maintains integrity through endless winter cycles.

Will freeze-thaw cycles damage an aluminum metal roof in Minnesota?

No; aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw climates. With roughly 79 freeze-thaw days annually in Mille Lacs County, repeated expansion and contraction stress traditional materials like wood, concrete tile, and even asphalt. Aluminum roofing-grade 3105-H24 alloy (ASTM B209) expands and contracts uniformly without cracking, splitting, or curling. The Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating, warranted 30 years against fading, stays intact through these cycles. This is why Interlock panels have been installed from coastal homes to an Antarctic research station—extreme thermal cycling is engineered into the design from manufacturing in Delta, BC since 1998.

Can aluminum roofing rust in Minnesota's wet climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; instead, it forms a thin, self-healing oxide layer when exposed to air. In Prairie Center's ~796 mm annual rainfall, this oxide film—the same chemistry as sapphire—instantly reforms if scratched, making corrosion impossible. Steel roofing, by contrast, rusts through and fails. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy with a two-sided Alunar® PVDF coating for additional protection. This dual-layer defense is why the product has performed in salt-air coastal environments—far harsher than Minnesota's inland rainfall—and carries the Guardian warranty's lifetime coverage against rusting.

Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal tile roof?

No reinforcement is needed. The Interlock Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs directly over most existing roofs without structural upgrades. By comparison, concrete tile can weigh 15+ lb/sq ft. This weight savings matters in Prairie Center, where about 95 cm of snow accumulates annually; the lighter load reduces stress on framing and reduces snow-load risk. The Shake profile (~0.58 lb/sq ft) and Slate (~0.41 lb/sq ft) are even lighter. ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms installation over existing materials, and the local installer has completed thousands of retrofits since 2001.

Are metal roofs safe in Minnesota windstorms?

Yes; Interlock's four-way interlocking panels resist wind up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification—far above Prairie Center's typical gusts of 94 km/h and mean daily winds of 19 km/h. The Guardian warranty explicitly covers this wind performance. Four-way interlocking means each panel locks on all four edges to its neighbors, preventing uplift or separation during gusts. This design has kept the roof secure from coastal storms to Antarctic conditions. ICC-ES ESR-1790 confirms wind-resistance engineering under IBC/IRC building codes. Local installer Interlock Metal Roofing has served the region since 2001 and understands Minnesota's wind patterns.

What hail rating does Interlock metal roofing have, and will insurance recognize it?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible aluminum construction and impact resilience often qualify for insurance premium reductions; contact your insurer with the UL rating and ICC-ES ESR-1790 documentation for evaluation. In Minnesota's climate, with about 3128 sunshine hours annually but exposure to severe weather, a Class 4 rating provides maximum protection and loss recovery confidence. Many homeowners see payback within a few years through lower premiums.

How long does Interlock metal roofing last, and what does the warranty cover?

Interlock carries the Guardian warranty: lifetime limited, non-prorated material coverage for the original owner, plus one-time transferability to the next owner for 50 years from completion—meaning your roof is protected indefinitely through a sale. The warranty covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. In Minnesota's freeze-thaw environment with 79 annual cycles and 95 cm of snow, traditional asphalt fails in 15-20 years. Aluminum roofing has demonstrated 25+ year performance with no failures in field installations. Combined with the 30-year PVDF coating warranty, you're buying the last roof you'll install.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or tile?

Metal roofing requires far less maintenance than asphalt or tile. Unlike asphalt, which deteriorates under UV exposure and Minnesota's 3128 annual sunshine hours, Alunar® PVDF-coated aluminum resists fading for 30 years. Unlike clay or slate tile, which crack in freeze-thaw cycles and need individual replacement, aluminum panels won't split or curl. Basic maintenance—clearing gutters twice yearly and rinsing debris after the ~796 mm annual rainfall—is all that's needed. CALGreen-verified as reduced-maintenance. Because the roof never deteriorates like asphalt, you avoid costly repairs during the 79 freeze-thaw days each winter when damage typically occurs.

Can a metal roof reduce cooling costs in Minnesota summers?

Yes. Interlock's energy-efficient colors achieve solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny) and thermal emissivity of 0.84, rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council. This means the roof reflects heat that asphalt absorbs, lowering attic temperatures and cooling demand. In Mille Lacs County, with about 3128 sunshine hours annually and mean temperatures around 8°C, reflective roofing cuts summer AC costs by 5-15% depending on color and orientation. Darker profiles like Slate still offer better reflectance than standard asphalt. The lightweight aluminum (no structural upgrade needed) allows airflow under the panels, further reducing heat retention compared to solid tile or heavy shingles.

How long does it take to install a metal roof, and can it go over my old roof?

Installation typically takes 3-7 days depending on roof size and complexity. Because Interlock panels are extraordinarily lightweight—Slate at ~0.41 lb/sq ft—they install directly over most existing asphalt or wood shingles without tear-off, saving labor and eliminating landfill waste. ICC-ES ESR-1790 confirms over-existing-roof installation. Your local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (serving since 2001), assesses your deck condition and handles permitting and final inspection. The process avoids the disruption of full tear-off and takes advantage of existing ventilation. With about 796 mm of annual rainfall in Prairie Center, avoiding winter installation windows during heavy snow (about 95 cm yearly) means scheduling spring or fall work.
