Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Ilwaco, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Prompt service and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
My wife and I wanted a long-term roof and I think we found it. The product seems very good and are installer Daniel was terrific and a trooper put a lot of hours and a lot of time and made it look real nice when it was completed. I would recommend the company if you're looking for a metal roof.
Ivan Excellent will make it right!!
We needed a roof repair when our neighbors tree dropped a large limb through our roof. Ivan came And accessed The damage, Ordered the sheets we needed. He came back and did the whole Repair himself. So happy to have it fixed along with his recommendations to have the roof cleaned. We appreciate his skills in repairing The roof.
The Interlock associate Ivan, came did an awesome service in correcting the part needed to be corrected, he left us with instructions of what we needed to check and to get in touch with, if needed 😀 Ms. May the associate answering the phone was helpful for us to get prompt service. They are dependable. We received roof service.
The work was efficient and well done. The service, the people and team were great. Beautiful roof.
I highly appreciate the professionalism, workmanship and the quality of materials used. I don't doubt that it will be our forever roof and will not need to worry about replacement during the life of our house. Ross, Tony, Roma were all great throughout the new roof installation process.
We noticed water spots on the ceiling. Ivan came, found a hole likely caused by a branch in the recent wind storm. He repaired the hole on the spot. Thank you Ivan!
Ivan replaced our exhaust vent on the roof that had some leaking issue. We were impressed with his professionalism, courtesy and fixing the problem to our utmost satisfaction. We certainly would recommend him and the company for any roofing issues being it a new roof or repairs.
We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.
Excellent contact and coordination with field representatives and installers/project manager.
We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Ilwaco
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Ilwaco, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Ilwaco.
Why won't my metal roof rust in Ilwaco's salty, wet climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that causes steel to corrode. Instead, aluminum develops a self-healing oxide layer that protects it from salt air and the 2211 mm of annual rainfall Pacific County receives. This is why Interlock panels have been installed successfully from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station since 1998. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, applied to both sides of every panel, adds a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading—extra critical in your region's damp, windy conditions.
How does a metal roof handle the snow and ice we get in Ilwaco?
Aluminum's light weight—the Shake profile installs at just 0.58 lb/sq ft—means it won't stress your structure even with about 52 cm of annual snowfall and the freeze-thaw cycles typical of Pacific County winters. Four-way interlocking panels create a unified surface that sheds snow and ice effectively. Snow guards can be added where desired. The key advantage over asphalt or wood: no water absorption, so repeated freeze-thaw cycles over 11 days per year don't cause the rot, splitting, or curling that plague traditional roofing materials in climates like yours.
Can a metal roof survive Ilwaco's coastal winds and storms?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph when installed to specification—well above the typical 122 km/h gusts Pacific County experiences. The mechanical interlocks prevent individual panels from lifting or separating, and the lightweight aluminum (about 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile) reduces the overall load your structure carries during high-wind events. This design has proven itself in coastal installations for over 25 years, from British Columbia to salt-air exposures similar to your region.
With 2200+ mm of rain a year, how does a metal roof keep water out?
Four-way interlocking panels overlap in a pattern that channels water downward and outward—the same principle that protects ships and aircraft. Water cannot pool or be driven upward under wind pressure because each panel hooks mechanically to its neighbors. Installation over a solid deck with underlayment creates a complete water barrier. Ilwaco receives about 2211 mm of rain annually, and aluminum's non-porous surface means water runs off rather than being absorbed. When installed to the ICC-ES ESR-1790 specification, the system is tested and rated for heavy rainfall without leakage.
Does a metal roof reduce hail damage and insurance costs?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4—the highest impact rating available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. While hail is not a primary concern in Ilwaco's climate (2892 sunshine hours and typical daily-max winds of 19 km/h suggest a relatively stable region), the Class 4 rating may qualify you for insurance discounts and ensures zero risk of impact-related failure. Check with your agent: many insurers offer measurable savings for Class 4 roofing, offsetting installation cost over time.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. The Mediterranean Tile profile, for example, weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs directly over most existing roofs without additional support. Compare that to traditional slate or tile, which would require costly structural upgrades. Interlock's lightweight aluminum (3105-H24 / 3003-H24 ASTM B209 alloy) lets you upgrade from asphalt without engineering work, making the retrofit feasible for older Ilwaco homes where structural modification would be impractical or expensive.
Is a metal roof cheaper than replacing asphalt shingles every 15–20 years?
Over the life of your home, yes. Asphalt shingles typically last 15–20 years and end up in landfills; Interlock's lifetime limited, non-prorated Guardian Warranty covers the original owner for life and transfers once to the next owner (50 years from completion). You install metal once, then stop replacing. Current financing: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation. Factor in the coastal salt-air environment Ilwaco homeowners face—asphalt degrades faster in damp, windy conditions—and metal's durability advantage becomes clear within one roof cycle.
What does Interlock's warranty actually cover and for how long?
The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited for the original owner and non-prorated, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner with a 50-year term from completion—a powerful selling point. With 2211 mm annual rainfall and 11 freeze-thaw days per year, Ilwaco's climate is hard on roofing; Interlock's 30-year coating warranty (Alunar 70% PVDF, tested to ASTM D4214 / D2244 standards) ensures color and performance stability. No other roof type offers this combination of coverage and transferability.
How much upkeep does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Virtually none. Unlike asphalt shingles—which degrade under Ilwaco's 2211 mm of annual rain and require regular inspection—or wood shake (which splits and rots in freeze-thaw cycles)—metal requires no sealing, staining, or replacement of failed sections. CALGreen verification confirms Interlock's reduced-maintenance design. Rinse debris once or twice yearly. The aluminum oxide layer self-heals when scratched, and the Alunar coating resists fading for 30 years in salt-air and wet conditions. This is the practical difference between a fire-and-forget roof and one requiring annual attention.
Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Ilwaco and how long have they been here?
Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. serves the Ilwaco and Pacific County area and has been installing metal roofing across the region since 1997—one year before Interlock Metal Roofing began manufacturing in Delta, BC. They understand coastal Pacific Northwest conditions: salt air, heavy rainfall (2211 mm/year), wind gusts to 122 km/h, and the freeze-thaw cycle (11 days/year) that stresses lesser roofing systems. They're familiar with local building codes, permitting, and the specific structural and weather challenges of homes in your area. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation.
