Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Oceanside

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Oceanside, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Oceanside.

Why doesn't aluminum metal roofing rust like steel, and does that matter in Oceanside?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes in steel. Instead, aluminum forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal beneath; if scratched, it repairs itself automatically. In Oceanside's coastal salt-air environment and with about 2211 mm of annual rainfall, this is critical: steel roofs corrode from salt spray and moisture, while roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum (ASTM B209) stays structurally intact for decades. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating applied to both panel sides adds a second barrier, especially valuable where salt air accelerates corrosion in traditional materials.

How does a metal roof handle Oceanside's snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Oceanside receives about 52 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 11 freeze-thaw days per year—conditions that crack asphalt shingles and cause ice dams. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are designed to expand and contract without splitting or curling; the smooth, hard surface naturally sheds snow and ice rather than trapping moisture. Metal roofing's light weight (Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means snow doesn't accumulate as heavily as on heavier materials, reducing ice-dam risk. Your structure won't need costly reinforcement, and the panels' structural integrity remains constant through repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

With 2200+ mm of rain yearly, how watertight is a metal roof?

Metal roofing's interlocking design and standing-seam profiles create overlapping barriers that shed rain rather than absorb it—essential in Oceanside, which averages 2211 mm of annual rainfall. The four-way interlocking system means water runs across multiple seal points before reaching the deck. When installed over a solid substrate with proper underlayment (standard practice), the metal panels themselves work like a first-stage gutter system. ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms watertightness under code-compliant installation, and The Guardian warranty covers any perforation or water entry, giving you confidence in heavy-rain seasons.

Can metal roofing handle the wind gusts we get near the coast?

Oceanside experiences typical daily winds around 19 km/h but gusts reaching 122 km/h—well within the 120 mph (193 km/h) wind resistance warranty for Interlock panels installed to specification. The four-way interlocking system mechanically locks each panel to its neighbors and the substrate, resisting uplift and lateral forces that tear asphalt shingles loose. This engineered interlock—not adhesive alone—holds the roof intact during Pacific storms. The warranty explicitly covers wind speeds to 193 km/h, so coastal gusts and seasonal storms won't compromise your roof's integrity or void coverage.

Is a metal roof really hail-resistant, and can it lower my insurance?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and The Guardian warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible aluminum and superior impact resistance make metal roofing attractive to insurers; many offer discounts (typically 5–15% on premiums) because claims for hail damage, wind, and fire are significantly lower than for asphalt. In Oceanside, with 2892 annual sunshine hours and seasonal weather variability, a Class 4-rated roof reduces your long-term insurance costs while eliminating the need for tear-offs after hail events.

Does reflective metal roofing actually lower cooling costs in the Pacific Northwest?

Yes—energy-efficient Interlock profiles with thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny) reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, keeping attics cooler during Oceanside's 2892 sunshine hours annually. While the region's mean temperature of 11°C means cooling isn't Oceanside's primary concern, reflective roofing reduces heat gain in summer months and can lower whole-house HVAC runtime. Cool Roof Rating Council certification means measurable energy performance. The real payoff: a reflective metal roof costs less to maintain than asphalt over 40+ years while delivering modest but real cooling efficiency during warmer seasons.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Metal roofing requires virtually no routine maintenance—no seasonal shingle replacement, no wood-shake treatment against rot or insects, no algae cleaning. Oceanside's 2211 mm annual rainfall and salt air would degrade asphalt and wood rapidly; aluminum resists both. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 / D2244 measured), so color stays true without recoating. Basic inspection every few years for debris is all homeowners need. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance burden. Over a 50-year lifespan, this means years of your time and hundreds of dollars saved versus shingle repairs and wood preservation.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over the life of the roof?

Metal roofing costs more upfront than asphalt but is the last roof you'll buy. Asphalt requires replacement every 15–25 years; Interlock's lifetime limited warranty for the original owner—non-prorated, covering rusting, rotting, cracking, and impact loss—means no tear-off cycles, no landfill costs, no reinstallation fees. A transferable 50-year warranty passes to the next owner, adding resale value. In Oceanside's harsh climate (2211 mm rain, 122 km/h gusts, 11 freeze-thaw days), asphalt fails faster. Current financing (no payments or interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off) reduces the payment shock. Total cost of ownership strongly favors metal over 40+ years.

How long does installation take, and can you install metal roofing over my existing roof?

Installation timelines depend on roof size and complexity, typically 3–7 days for a residential project; local installer Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., serving the region since 1997, can provide exact estimates. A key advantage: Interlock's extraordinary light weight—Tile profile is approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—means most existing roofs don't require structural reinforcement. You can install directly over asphalt or wood shingles, eliminating expensive tear-off and debris hauling. This reduces labor time and landfill impact. Your installer will confirm load capacity and prepare the substrate; most Oceanside homes can proceed without costly framing upgrades.

Is metal roofing actually more environmentally friendly than asphalt shingles?

Metal roofing is approximately 95% recyclable at end-of-life, while asphalt shingles—replaced every 15–25 years—end in landfills, creating a persistent waste stream. Over Oceanside's wet, freeze-thaw climate (52 cm snow, 11 freeze-thaw cycles yearly), asphalt shingles fail faster, accelerating replacement cycles and landfill deposits. Interlock's lifetime non-prorated warranty eliminates the tear-off-and-replace loop entirely: one roof, no replacements, no waste for 50+ years. The aluminum is sourced from roofing-grade alloy (ASTM B209) and coated with Alunar 70% PVDF on both sides for durability. Choosing metal breaks the asphalt disposal cycle and delivers genuine environmental benefit across the roof's lifespan.
