Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Upper Salmon Junction

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Upper Salmon Junction, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Upper Salmon Junction.

Will a metal roof handle Upper Salmon Junction's snow and ice buildup?

Metal roofs shed snow effectively due to their smooth, hard surface and low thermal mass—ice that would dam up on asphalt simply slides off. Your area averages about 49 cm of snow annually with 34 freeze-thaw days, creating repeated ice-melt cycles that stress traditional roofing. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to 120 mph wind resistance, which also means they hold fast when snow tries to shift. The lightweight design (Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft) means no structural upgrade needed, even in heavy wet snow years.

How does a metal roof perform in the heavy rain we get here?

The interlocking seams and standing-water design of Interlock panels shed rain faster than asphalt because water runs off immediately rather than soaking into granules. Upper Salmon Junction receives approximately 1578 mm of rain annually—metal's hard surface never absorbs that water the way composite or wood roofs do. Four-way interlocking geometry means each panel bridges and locks its neighbors, eliminating the gaps where water creeps in sideways. When installed to ICC-ES ESR-1790 specification (reissued 2025), the system is rated for full weather protection under IBC/IRC codes.

Why choose aluminum over steel roofing in a wet, windy climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes in steel roofing. Instead, aluminum develops a self-healing oxide layer that protects it from air and moisture. Your region's moisture (1578 mm rain, frequent gusts to 103 km/h) would corrode steel within years; aluminum actually strengthens over time. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24/3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating on both sides—extra insurance against salt and spray if you're near coastal influence. After 27 years of manufacturing since 1998, installations in Antarctic research stations and salt-air homes prove the material's durability.

Does a metal roof stand up to hail, and will my insurance company care?

Interlock's aluminum panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 rating demonstrates resilience that insurers recognize; many homeowners qualify for premium discounts when switching to impact-rated metal. Upper Salmon Junction's typical gusts reach 103 km/h and your annual weather includes freeze-thaw stress, making impact durability worth the investment. Request a quote from your insurer once installation is confirmed; some carriers offer immediate rate reductions for Class 4 metal roofs.

How long does a metal roof last, and what does the warranty really cover?

Interlock offers a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. The warranty transfers once, giving the next homeowner 50 years from completion, which protects your investment and your home's future resale value. With 1578 mm annual rainfall and 34 freeze-thaw cycles per year, asphalt needs replacement every 15-20 years; aluminum simply doesn't degrade under those conditions. The Alunar coating is separately warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214/D2244)—meaning your roof stays both structurally sound and visually consistent for decades.

Can my existing roof structure handle a metal roof, or do I need reinforcement?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Shake profile installs at just 0.58 lb/sq ft, making it about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most homes can support aluminum metal roofing over existing asphalt without any framing upgrades. The light weight also means faster installation and no need for interior support work that adds cost and disruption. Because aluminum is so light, Interlock can install directly over your current roof in most cases, eliminating the labor and landfill expense of a full tear-off—a major advantage in rainy climates where quick installation matters.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to replacing asphalt shingles?

A metal roof is the last roof you'll buy. Asphalt needs replacement every 15-20 years in your wet climate; metal lasts 50+ years with a transferable lifetime warranty that adds resale appeal. Over a 50-year span, you'll replace asphalt 2-3 times, paying tear-off labor and landfill fees each time—metal eliminates that cycle. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation cost. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating (30-year warranty) resists fading under 2757 annual sunshine hours, so your investment stays visually intact for decades without frequent repainting.

What does it take to maintain an aluminum metal roof year-round?

Metal roofs require virtually no maintenance beyond occasional gutter cleaning—they don't rot, split, curl, or shed granules like asphalt, wood shakes, or tile. Upper Salmon Junction's 1578 mm annual rainfall and 34 freeze-thaw cycles would cause constant damage to wood or asphalt, but aluminum sheds water instantly and never absorbs it. You'll never pressure-wash, seal, or replace rotted sections. The aluminum alloy (3105-H24/3003-H24) doesn't corrode, and the Alunar fluorocarbon finish resists mildew in your damp climate. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance demands compared to traditional roofing materials.

Is a metal roof fire-safe, and does that matter for insurance?

Aluminum is non-combustible, and Interlock offers Class A fire classification (the highest rating)—a major advantage if wildfire smoke or ember risk is a concern. Class A rating signals to insurers that your home has superior fire resistance, potentially lowering premiums or improving approval odds in wildfire-prone regions. ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025) confirms the roofing system's fire performance under IBC/IRC building codes. Unlike asphalt (which can soften and spread flame) or wood shakes (which ignite), aluminum roofing simply will not burn, giving you and your insurer peace of mind.
