Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Stringtown

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Stringtown, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Stringtown.

How does a metal roof handle Stringtown's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Metal roofs shed snow efficiently because aluminum's smooth surface and thermal properties prevent ice dams that trap water on asphalt shingles. Stringtown receives about 52 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 11 freeze-thaw days per year—conditions that crack and curl traditional shingles. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels and lightweight design (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) distribute loads evenly without structural strain. The sealed panel joints prevent meltwater infiltration, and you can add snow guards to control slides safely. This matters: freeze-thaw damage is cumulative, but aluminum's oxide layer remains stable through repeated cycles.

With 2200+ mm of annual rain in Stringtown, will a metal roof leak?

No—when installed to spec, Interlock's four-way interlocking panels create a weather barrier far superior to overlapping shingles. Stringtown averages about 2211 mm of rainfall yearly, and metal roofs channel water downward and outward without absorption. The overlapping panel design means water cannot pool or find a path into the home; gutters handle runoff the same way they do on asphalt. The sealed joints and standing-seam option (if chosen) eliminate the weak points where shingles fail. Properly installed metal roofing has an exceptional track record in rainy Pacific climates.

Are metal roofs safe in Stringtown's wind gusts?

Yes—Interlock panels are warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph, and Stringtown's typical gusts reach about 122 km/h (roughly 76 mph). The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors and the substrate, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. High-wind events in the Pacific Northwest rarely exceed the 120 mph warranty threshold, and when they do, the aluminum's flexibility and the panel geometry absorb and redirect force. This design philosophy has proven itself from coastal storms to Antarctic installations. Your insurance company typically recognizes this engineering.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for metal roofing?

Metal roofing eliminates the structural reinforcement cost that slate and clay tile require. The Mediterranean Tile profile weighs roughly 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than traditional tile—so most existing roofs can support it without frame upgrades. Stringtown homes built for asphalt shingles (about 2.5–3 lb/sq ft) gain spare capacity. This advantage compounds: you avoid the $3,000–$8,000 structural work that tile demands, and your home's foundation and framing experience less cumulative stress over decades. Lightweight aluminum roofing is especially valuable in older homes where hidden damage or settling has already compromised structural margin.

Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofing does?

Aluminum contains no iron, so it cannot rust—rust is iron oxide, which requires iron to form. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), and aluminum naturally forms a microscopic oxide layer that seals the surface and self-heals when scratched. Stringtown's damp, temperate climate (mean 11°C, about 2211 mm rain annually) favors corrosion in steel; aluminum thrives in these conditions. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish adds an extra 30-year warranted barrier. Since Interlock has installed roofs in salt-air coastal homes since 1998, you're choosing a material proven in Pacific Northwest moisture.

Will hail damage affect my insurance or my roof?

Interlock panels carry the UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Stringtown's hail risk is moderate, but when it occurs, Class 4 aluminum roofing often qualifies for insurance discounts because it resists damage that would total asphalt shingles. Insurers recognize that metal roofs reduce claims frequency and severity. You'll want to discuss your policy with your agent after installation, as some carriers credit metal roofs on homeowners' premiums. Documentation of the UL rating and ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation supports any claim for a discount.

Can metal roofing actually lower my cooling costs in the Pacific Northwest?

Yes, especially if you choose energy-efficient colors. Stringtown enjoys about 2892 sunshine hours annually, and while summers are mild, reflective metal roofing reduces attic heat gain year-round. energy-efficiency colors achieve thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), meaning they bounce heat away instead of absorbing it like asphalt. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms this effect. Over a 50-year roof life, the cumulative energy savings offset the upfront cost, especially as regional summers warm. Even modest cooling savings add up in a region with extended daylight during growing season months.

What's the actual lifespan of a metal roof, and what's covered?

Interlock offers a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. The warranty is transferable—the next owner receives 50 years of coverage from completion date. In practice, aluminum roofing lasts 50+ years with minimal maintenance, outlasting multiple generations of asphalt shingles. Stringtown's freeze-thaw cycles (about 11 days per year) stress shingles; metal panels remain unaffected. The Alunar coating carries a separate 30-year warrant against chalking and fading. This is your last roof—no tear-off cycles, no repeat investment.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Yes, when you account for total cost over the life of your home. Asphalt shingles cost less initially but need replacement every 15–25 years in Stringtown's damp, freeze-thaw climate; multiple tear-offs, landfill fees, and labor add $8,000–$15,000 in hidden costs. Metal roofing costs more upfront but lasts 50+ years with no replacement cycle, minimal maintenance, potential energy savings, and often qualifies you for insurance and resale premiums. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. Spread over decades, metal roofing is actually the affordable choice. Ask any homeowner who's paid for two asphalt roofs.

Can metal roofing really look like slate, cedar shake, or tile?

Yes—Interlock offers five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. Each replicates the depth, shadow line, and proportions of the original material while delivering aluminum's durability. From the street, a Cedar Shingle or Mediterranean Tile profile provides the aesthetic of traditional materials without the maintenance burden. Slate and Shake profiles suit period homes and craftsman styles. Standing Seam appeals to modern designs. The four-way interlocking system locks panels seamlessly, so you see clean visual lines and authentic texture, not fastener patterns. Your choice of color in the Alunar finish further customizes the look. Stringtown's leafy neighborhoods benefit from roofs that suit their architectural character while lasting generations.
