Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Magruder, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
Prompt service and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
My wife and I wanted a long-term roof and I think we found it. The product seems very good and are installer Daniel was terrific and a trooper put a lot of hours and a lot of time and made it look real nice when it was completed. I would recommend the company if you're looking for a metal roof.
Ivan Excellent will make it right!!
We needed a roof repair when our neighbors tree dropped a large limb through our roof. Ivan came And accessed The damage, Ordered the sheets we needed. He came back and did the whole Repair himself. So happy to have it fixed along with his recommendations to have the roof cleaned. We appreciate his skills in repairing The roof.
The Interlock associate Ivan, came did an awesome service in correcting the part needed to be corrected, he left us with instructions of what we needed to check and to get in touch with, if needed 😀 Ms. May the associate answering the phone was helpful for us to get prompt service. They are dependable. We received roof service.
The work was efficient and well done. The service, the people and team were great. Beautiful roof.
I highly appreciate the professionalism, workmanship and the quality of materials used. I don't doubt that it will be our forever roof and will not need to worry about replacement during the life of our house. Ross, Tony, Roma were all great throughout the new roof installation process.
We noticed water spots on the ceiling. Ivan came, found a hole likely caused by a branch in the recent wind storm. He repaired the hole on the spot. Thank you Ivan!
Ivan replaced our exhaust vent on the roof that had some leaking issue. We were impressed with his professionalism, courtesy and fixing the problem to our utmost satisfaction. We certainly would recommend him and the company for any roofing issues being it a new roof or repairs.
We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.
Excellent contact and coordination with field representatives and installers/project manager.
We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Magruder
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Magruder, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Magruder.
Will a metal roof handle Magruder's heavy snow load without ice dams?
Yes — aluminum's smooth, interlocking surface sheds snow and ice far better than asphalt. Magruder averages about 398 cm of snow annually, and metal roofing's low friction lets that load slide before it compacts into ice dams. The four-way interlocking panels are warranted to 120 mph wind resistance, which easily handles the shear forces from sliding snow. Adding optional snow guards lets you control the timing. Unlike asphalt, which traps heat and creates dam cycles during the area's 96 freeze-thaw days each year, aluminum's reflective surface (up to 0.55 solar reflectance) stays cooler, reducing the melt-refreeze problem entirely.
Does aluminum roofing crack or split after Magruder's 96 freeze-thaw cycles per year?
No — pure aluminum cannot crack or split. Magruder experiences roughly 96 freeze-thaw days annually and about 535 mm of rain, conditions that destroy wood shakes and clay tiles. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), which expands and contracts smoothly without brittleness. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating is applied to both panel sides for extra durability in wet climates. The Guardian Warranty explicitly covers cracking, splitting, and curling for the life of the original owner, then transfers for 50 years to the next owner — that's the kind of durability you need in a freeze-thaw zone.
Why does aluminum never rust, and why does that matter for my roof?
Aluminum contains no iron — the element that rusts — so oxidation is impossible. Instead, aluminum instantly forms a self-healing oxide layer when exposed to air; if the coating scratches, that protective layer regenerates automatically. Steel roofs need constant vigilance against rust, especially in wet climates like Magruder's 535 mm annual rain. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (applied to both sides) is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, adding a professional barrier. This means your roof won't degrade from moisture, won't stain your gutters or siding with rust streaks, and won't need touch-ups. In a region that sees frequent rain and high humidity, that's decades of worry-free performance.
Is metal roofing too heavy for my existing roof framing?
The opposite — it's extraordinarily light. Interlock's Shingle profile installs at only 0.41 lb/sq ft, and the Mediterranean Tile (which looks like real tile) weighs just 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most existing roofs can support it without structural reinforcement. That means you can install Interlock over your current asphalt shingles, avoiding a costly tear-off and the landfill waste. The ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790, reissued 2025) confirms installation compliance over most existing assemblies. You save money on labor, avoid structural upgrades, and eliminate the environmental cost of ripping off and disposing of old asphalt — all because aluminum weighs almost nothing.
How much does a metal roof actually cost compared to replacing asphalt three times?
Over 50 years or more, aluminum costs far less than the asphalt cycle. Asphalt shingles last 15–25 years in Magruder's climate (roughly 535 mm rain, 398 cm snow, 96 freeze-thaw days annually), meaning you'll replace them twice or three times. Each tear-off and reinstall adds labor, disposal, and disruption costs; asphalt also requires regular maintenance and repairs. Interlock carries a lifetime limited (non-prorated) warranty for the original owner and transfers 50 years to the next owner — you install it once. The current promotion offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation. Calculate the total cost of two asphalt replacements plus maintenance against one aluminum roof: aluminum wins decisively and adds resale appeal.
Can a metal roof stand up to hail, and will my insurance company notice?
Yes — Interlock carries the highest hail rating available: UL 2218 Class 4 impact resistance, which means the roof withstands steel ball impacts up to 1.5 inches. The Guardian Warranty explicitly covers perforation from hail, so you're protected regardless of storm severity. Some insurers recognize this durability and offer discounts on premiums because metal roofs rarely file hail claims. Magruder's climate doesn't see extreme hail as standard, but when it does strike, your roof performs where asphalt, wood shake, and tile fail. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and non-combustible aluminum construction; many companies reward that resilience with rate reductions.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need in a rainy climate like Magruder?
Minimal to none. Asphalt shingles need periodic inspections, shingle replacement, gutter cleaning, and moss/algae treatment — especially in wet regions averaging 535 mm rain annually. Metal roofing is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance because there's no granule shedding, no rot risk, no moss growth on slick aluminum, and no tar degradation. Rain washes dirt away naturally; gutters stay cleaner because there's no shingle debris. Snow slides off easily, so ice-dam gutters don't back up vegetation. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating doesn't crack or chalk, so you won't be repainting. In a climate with 398 cm of snow and 96 freeze-thaw cycles annually, eliminating maintenance saves thousands over the roof's life and gives you peace of mind.
How long does it take to install a metal roof, and do I have to tear off my old shingles?
Installation typically takes 1–3 weeks depending on roof size and complexity; no tear-off required in most cases. Interlock panels install directly over your existing asphalt shingles (the ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms this), saving weeks of labor and eliminating disposal costs and landfill waste. Your contractor installs solid decking, underlayment, and the four-way interlocking panels according to spec — the same process that's proven since 1998 across coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served this region since 1997 and knows Magruder's 102 km/h wind gusts and heavy snow load. Minimal disruption, no debris everywhere, and you avoid the asphalt-shingle tear-off that interrupts your home's exterior for days.
Will a metal roof reduce my cooling costs, and does it matter in Magruder?
Yes — Interlock's energy-efficient colors with 0.84 thermal emissivity and up to 0.55 solar reflectance reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, lowering summer cooling demand. Magruder's mean temperature is about 8.5°C, and it averages roughly 3289 sunshine hours annually — enough to benefit from reflective coatings on clear days. That advantage compounds: cooler attics reduce air-conditioner strain, lower peak demand, and extend shingle life by reducing thermal cycling stress. For homeowners adding insulation or a heat pump, a reflective roof maximizes that investment. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms the performance. In a moderate climate like Magruder's, the energy gain may be modest, but paired with the hail resistance, 120 mph wind warranty, and 50-year transferable coverage, it's another reason aluminum outperforms asphalt.
Is aluminum roofing actually recycled, or is it just marketing?
Aluminum is about 95% recyclable at end of life; Interlock panels manufactured since 1998 are designed for infinite reuse. The real environmental win is what you avoid: asphalt shingles tear off and go to landfills by the millions every year — a cycle repeated every 15–25 years. In Magruder, where you'd replace asphalt twice or three times over 50 years, that's three separate tear-offs and three loads to the dump. One metal roof installs over your existing shingles, eliminates two future tear-offs, and when it's finally retired (in 50+ years), it enters the aluminum recycling stream instead of sitting in a landfill. The manufacturing process also uses the durable 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) — a proven material recycled in high volumes. Choose aluminum once; stop the asphalt cycle.
