Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Platinum

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Platinum, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Platinum.

How does a metal roof handle Platinum's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Aluminum's smooth surface sheds snow and ice far better than asphalt, reducing the weight load on your structure. Platinum averages about 398 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 96 freeze-thaw days per year—conditions that cause asphalt to crack and curl. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels (ICC-ES ESR-1790 rated) remain dimensionally stable through these cycles because aluminum doesn't absorb moisture or expand with temperature swings like wood or composition materials. Snow guards are available if you prefer managed snow release.

Why don't Platinum's freeze-thaw cycles damage aluminum roofing?

Freeze-thaw damage occurs when water penetrates a material, freezes, expands, and cracks it. Aluminum is non-porous and naturally sheds water; it cannot absorb moisture that would freeze inside the panel. With 96 annual freeze-thaw days and 535 mm of rain, Platinum homes see relentless moisture cycling. Asphalt, wood, and concrete tile all trap water and degrade over decades. Aluminum's oxide layer—which self-heals when scratched—provides additional protection, ensuring your roof remains intact through Platinum's harshest seasons.

Does aluminum roofing rust or corrode in wet Pacific Northwest climates?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it forms a thin, self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal beneath. Your roof is coated with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon on both sides, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. Platinum receives 535 mm of annual rainfall and frequent moisture; Interlock has shipped this same material to Antarctic research stations and coastal salt-air homes. After 27 years of manufacturing since 1998, the product proves itself in the harshest corrosive environments.

Can my home's structure support metal roofing, or do I need reinforcement?

You almost certainly do not need structural reinforcement. Interlock's Slate profile weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft and the Mediterranean Tile (which replicates heavy ceramic) weighs 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than genuine tile. Most homes can support this weight over existing roofing, eliminating expensive structural work. Compare this to asphalt shingles at 2–3 lb/sq ft or concrete tile at 15+ lb/sq ft. Interlock installs directly over your current roof in most cases, saving time and cost while reducing landfill waste.

Will metal roofing blow off in Platinum's windstorms?

No. Interlock panels interlock four ways and are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed per specification. Platinum's typical gusts reach about 102 km/h (63 mph), well within the rating. The four-way interlocking system—combined with proper fastening—distributes wind load across the entire roof assembly, not individual fasteners. This is why panels survive in coastal and alpine regions with extreme exposure. Your roof stays secure through Platinum's windiest days.

Does metal roofing protect against hail damage better than asphalt?

Yes. Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Aluminum's hardness and elasticity absorb impact better than asphalt, which cracks and loses granules under hail. Unlike asphalt repairs (which never match the original), any dent or impact on aluminum can be addressed cosmetically if needed. Some insurers offer discounts for Class 4 roofs; check with your agent. In Platinum's thunderstorm season, this durability translates to peace of mind.

Will a metal roof reduce cooling costs in summer?

energy-efficient colors reflect rather than absorb solar heat, reducing the cooling load on your home. Interlock's reflective coatings achieve up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance (Aged Copper Penny) and 0.84 emissivity, compared to asphalt's ~0.05 reflectance. Platinum receives about 3,289 sunshine hours annually—enough for measurable cooling savings. Metal roofs also allow air circulation under the panels, further reducing attic temperatures. Over a 50-year lifespan, these energy savings compound significantly.

What's covered under Interlock's warranty?

The Guardian warranty is lifetime limited, non-prorated for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. After transfer, the next owner receives 50 years from completion. Few roofing products offer this protection. Combined with aluminum's inherent durability (no rust, no rot, no weather-induced cracking), you're buying a roof that outlasts the mortgage. Asphalt typically lasts 15–25 years; Interlock is engineered for decades longer, making it the last roof you install.

How much maintenance does a metal roof require versus asphalt or tile?

Metal requires far less maintenance. Unlike asphalt—which loses granules, cracks, and requires frequent repairs—or cedar shake (which splits and rots), aluminum is inert and non-degradable. You'll never need to replace shingles, treat for moss, or seal cracks. Occasional gutter cleaning and inspection after severe weather are sufficient. CALGreen certifies Interlock for reduced maintenance, recognizing the material's durability in rainy climates. Over 50 years, you'll save thousands in labor and repairs compared to traditional roofing.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost in Platinum?

Yes, when you calculate the full lifespan. Asphalt costs less initially but requires replacement every 15–25 years, plus repairs in between. A single re-roof of your home costs $8,000–$15,000+. Interlock, warranted for 50+ years with virtually no maintenance, is a one-time investment. Factor in energy savings (3,289 annual sunshine hours support reflective cooling), potential insurance discounts, and the transferred warranty (which increases resale value), and the lifetime cost-per-year drops below asphalt. Current financing options include no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation, reducing the initial barrier.
