Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Riverside

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Riverside, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Riverside.

Does metal roofing handle heavy snow and ice in Riverside winters?

Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking panels shed snow safely and resist ice damming. Riverside receives about 102 cm of snow annually across 65 freeze-thaw days, creating ideal conditions for ice buildup on traditional roofs. Aluminum's smooth surface and expansion characteristics prevent snow from bonding and refreezing. Optional snow guards direct melt toward gutters rather than allowing dangerous slides. The lightweight design—about 96% lighter than slate or concrete tile—means no structural reinforcement is needed, even when snow loads temporarily accumulate.

Why choose aluminum roofing over steel in a wet climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; instead, it develops a self-healing oxide layer when exposed to air or minor scratches. Interlock panels use roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) coated with Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides, which is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. In Riverside's wet climate—averaging 286 mm of rain annually—this dual-sided coating protects against moisture and corrosion from all angles. Steel roofing, by contrast, requires constant rust prevention; aluminum simply does not corrode, making it the permanent choice for this region's damp conditions.

How does freeze-thaw cycling affect a metal roof in Riverside?

Freeze-thaw cycles—Riverside averages about 65 per year—cause traditional materials like asphalt shingles and wood shake to contract and expand, leading to cracking and curling within a decade. Aluminum's inherent flexibility absorbs thermal stress without permanent deformation; it expands and contracts uniformly without splitting or becoming brittle. The Alunar® coating remains flexible across temperature swings from below freezing to summer heat, resisting the chalking and fading that plague asphalt in this cycle-heavy climate. After 25+ years of installations across the Pacific Northwest, Interlock panels show no stress-related failure in freeze-thaw zones.

Can my existing roof structure support metal roofing, or do I need reinforcement?

Most homes need no structural reinforcement because Interlock panels are extraordinarily light. The Cedar Shingle profile installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft, the Mediterranean Tile at 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This means the roof load is typically lighter than the asphalt shingles already on most homes. Interlock installs directly over existing roofing on most structures, saving tear-off costs and waste. Riverside contractors have installed thousands of panels without structural upgrades. A structural engineer can review your home in minutes; in nearly all cases, the answer is yes, install directly.

Is a metal roof a good long-term investment compared to asphalt shingles?

Yes—Interlock is the last roof you buy. Asphalt shingles last 15–20 years and require landfill disposal; over 50 years, you'll replace them three times and pay disposal fees each time. Interlock carries a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rust, rot, splitting, cracking, curling, and impact loss. The Guardian Warranty is one-time transferable, giving your home's next owner 50 years of coverage from completion. Riverside's 286 mm annual rainfall and 102 cm snow accelerate asphalt degradation; aluminum's Alunar® 30-year coating warranty outlasts multiple asphalt cycles. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation.

What's the hail rating on Interlock metal roofing, and does it lower insurance?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 means it resists impacts that destroy asphalt, wood, and most tile. Many insurers offer premium discounts for Class 4-rated roofs because claims are rare; contact your agent with the UL 2218 rating to ask about savings. Riverside's typical wind gusts reach 82 km/h, and while large hail is infrequent, the region's moisture and freeze-thaw cycles create conditions where impact-resistant roofing pays dividends. This durability often qualifies for homeowners insurance benefits.

How much maintenance does a metal roof require compared to asphalt or wood shake?

Metal roofing requires virtually no maintenance. Asphalt shingles crack and curl, requiring inspections every few years and spot repairs; wood shake splits and rots, needing treatment and replacement. Interlock's one-piece interlocking panels eliminate seams where debris traps moisture, and aluminum's non-porous surface sheds algae and lichen without treatment. Riverside's 3413 annual sunshine hours dry the roof quickly after 286 mm of rain, preventing the algae growth that plagues dark asphalt. No coating reapplication, no moss treatment, no fastener replacement needed. The CALGreen-verified design confirms reduced maintenance. Simply rinse debris off gutters—that's it.

Do metal roofs reduce cooling costs in summer?

Yes, especially in energy-efficient colors. Interlock offers profiles with thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council. These colors reflect heat that dark asphalt absorbs, keeping attic and living spaces cooler without extra air-conditioning. Riverside's 3413 annual sunshine hours mean the reflective benefit accumulates every clear day. While winters are cool (mean 11.8°C), spring and fall heat gain is reduced, lowering HVAC runtime and utility bills. Metal's natural conductivity also vents trapped heat from attics, preventing the moisture condensation that degrades insulation in freeze-thaw climates.

Is metal roofing fireproof, or does it offer any fire protection?

Interlock aluminum is non-combustible and available with Class A fire rating (the highest). Because aluminum contains no fuel and does not ignite, burn, or spread flames, it exceeds fire codes in ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025) for IBC/IRC compliance. This matters in Riverside, where wildfire smoke occasionally reaches the region and homeowners increasingly seek fire-resistant materials. Class A roofing also reduces homeowners insurance premiums in many areas. Steel roofing corrodes over time and may fail under extreme heat; aluminum remains structurally sound. If fire safety is a priority—whether for peace of mind or insurance—Interlock's non-combustible aluminum delivers certainty.

How long does installation take, and can it go over my existing roof?

Most Riverside homes complete installation in 2–5 days, depending on roof size and complexity. Interlock installs directly over existing asphalt or wood shingles on most structures—no tear-off required unless structural damage exists. This speeds installation, eliminates disposal costs, and adds an insulation layer. The four-way interlocking design means fewer fasteners and faster sealing than standing seam. Your local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., has served this region since 1997 and handles permitting and inspections. The process is cleaner and quieter than tear-off work, and neighbors experience minimal disruption. A site survey determines exact timeline and any pre-installation prep needed.
