Review: February 19, 2020

It's been about 6 weeks since our new roof was completed, and we are thrilled with the result. The whole process from start to finish was seamless and very efficient. As a salesperson myself, I was impressed with the 'no pressure' approach to selling us the roof and the information that was provided to us to make an informed decision on the type of roof for our home. We chose the black slate and it looks very smart and has transformed the look of our home considerably. Since the roof was installed, we have had the usual mixed bag of Washington weather - heavy rain, hail, strong winds, and frost. Our roof has been put to the test and passed with flying colors. Frank observed the installation process and was impressed with the seamless flashing, custom-made on site, and state of the art vent coverings. Our roof looks beautiful and stands out from the others in our neighborhood. We were particularly impressed with the workmanship of Victor and Mark Lomakin, the two men who installed the roof. They were punctual, fast, courteous, respectful, efficient and very professional. Our neighbors also commented on how well they worked. When the roof was complete, they cleared away all debris and even removed the unwanted satellite dish from our roof. It couldn't have gone better. We received all the financial documentation in a timely manner and all of the employees we have dealt with have been very knowledgeable and helpful. Our only criticism is that it would be nice to have an online payment facility for overpayments. Currently the only way to do that is to mail a payment to Canada but we don't have checks so we would have to purchase money orders and mail them as we intend to make over-payments along the way. We would happily recommend Interlock to anyone looking for a new roof. Kind regards Jennifer and Frank Herboldsheimer Ocean Shores, WA

Review: March 27, 2024

To whom it may concern I would like to commend you on your roofing products, and your choice employees. I recently had my roof replaced by your firm, I have received multiple compliments as to how nice it looks and enhances the appearance of my home. All your employees have been top notch, honest and genuinely helpful. Ross, your salesman, was great. He did not pressure us, we felt that he had our best interest at heart. He pointed out the options and showed us ways that we could reduce the financial impact. The two installers were Ukrainian. I did not get their names, but they were respectful and very business-like. They took their job very seriously and worked sunup to sundown (10 + hours) for the three days they were here. l did not see them take a break during that time. Lastly, Renee in the office was charged with the task of reminding me of the payment schedule, she did so with a great attitude and friendliness. Our experience was very positive. I would recommend your business to anyone looking for a new roof. Our job was accomplished with minimal interruption to our life. Our home was left pretty much as it was found except, we have a new roof. I do not anticipate any problems for the next 50+ years. [modula id="138011"]

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Westport

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Westport, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Westport.

How does a metal roof handle heavy snow and ice in Westport winters?

Aluminum's light weight and four-way interlocking panels shed snow and ice effectively without the structural strain that slate or concrete tile would create. Westport averages about 60 cm of snow annually, with 38 freeze-thaw cycles per year—conditions that crack and split asphalt shingles and wood shakes. Metal's smooth surface and thermal properties minimize ice-dam formation, and you can add snow guards to any profile if avalanche control is a concern. The Guardian Warranty covers impact damage even from hailstones up to 1.5 inches.

Why don't aluminum roofs rust like steel roofs, especially near salt air?

Aluminum contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and rusts. Instead, its oxide layer self-heals automatically when scratched, providing permanent corrosion immunity. Westport's marine climate and frequent wind gusts up to 106 km/h mean salt spray is a genuine concern. Interlock applies Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating to both sides of every panel, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, giving double protection in salt-air zones. This two-sided coating is rare among metal roofing manufacturers and reflects Interlock's Antarctic installation experience.

Can a metal roof handle Westport's 2300+ mm of annual rainfall without leaks?

Metal roofing's interlocking panels and solid installation shed water far more reliably than asphalt shingles, which deteriorate under constant wet exposure. At roughly 2305 mm of rain per year, Westport sits in one of North America's wettest zones—conditions that accelerate asphalt granule loss and moss growth. Four-way interlocking aluminum panels, installed over solid decking with ice-and-water underlayment, create a nearly impenetrable water barrier. Installation over your existing roof is possible, eliminating costly tear-off and adding another moisture layer beneath.

Will a metal roof stay secure in Westport's coastal wind gusts?

Interlock metal roofs are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Westport's typical gusts reach 106 km/h with seasonal peaks higher—well within the roof's rated envelope. The four-way interlocking panel design locks each sheet to its neighbors, distributing wind load across the entire assembly rather than relying on fasteners alone. This mechanical interlock system, combined with proper fastening to the deck, has proven reliable from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctica, where wind speeds regularly exceed 100 km/h.

Does an aluminum metal roof need expensive structural reinforcement?

No structural reinforcement is needed. The Interlock Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft, making it roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most existing roof structures, even older ones, can support this weight without modification. Because aluminum is so light, Interlock panels often install directly over your current asphalt roof, avoiding a tear-off. Westport receives about 60 cm of snow annually, which creates weight concerns for heavy materials—another reason aluminum's minimal dead load is a practical advantage in this climate.

How much maintenance does an aluminum metal roof really need?

Aluminum roofs require far less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or tile. No granule loss, no algae treatment, no structural cracking from freeze-thaw cycles (Westport averages 38 per year). The self-healing oxide layer protects against corrosion automatically. Occasional gutter cleaning and inspection after extreme weather is standard; the Alunar 70% PVDF finish doesn't chalk or fade for 30 years (ASTM D4214/D2244 rated). Compare this to asphalt's 15–20 year life with regular moss removal, or wood shakes splitting from moisture cycles—and maintenance costs become a significant financial advantage over a roof's lifetime.

Yes, when you calculate the true cost per year over 50+ years. Metal roofing carries a higher installed price than asphalt, but Interlock's Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner—meaning no deductibles for covered repairs. Asphalt shingles last 15–20 years in Westport's wet climate and require replacement, tear-off hauling, and installation every cycle. A metal roof installed today will likely outlive the next two asphalt roofs and still retain value at resale. Current financing offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—terms that shift the math significantly in metal's favor.

over the roof's life, is a metal roof worth the higher upfront cost?

Can I get an insurance discount on a UL Class 4 hail-rated roof?

Interlock metal roofs carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty explicitly covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many homeowners' insurers offer premium discounts for Class 4 impact resistance because claims are rare. You should contact your carrier with the UL 2218 certification to request a quote. Westport's marine climate and elevation mean hail is less frequent than in inland areas, but the Class 4 rating provides peace of mind and potential savings regardless—a rare combination in metal roofing.

How long does metal roof installation take and can you install over my old roof?

Installation timelines vary with roof size and complexity, typically 3–7 days for residential homes. Yes, Interlock panels install over most existing roofs—no tear-off required unless structural damage is present. This approach saves labor, tipping fees, and landfill impact while adding an extra moisture barrier beneath the new panels. Westport's frequent rain (about 2305 mm annually) makes this advantage practical; you avoid extended roof exposure during a tear-off. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997 and can assess your specific structure during a free consultation.

Is aluminum roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Yes. Aluminum is roughly 95% recyclable and retains value as scrap metal at end of life. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, are torn off every 15–20 years and sent to landfills—a cycle repeated endlessly. Over a 50-year period, one metal roof eliminates 2–3 asphalt tear-offs from the waste stream. Interlock has manufactured roofing-grade aluminum (ASTM B209) in Delta, BC since 1998, reducing transportation impact for Pacific Northwest installations. The product is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance (no chemical treatments needed), and energy-efficiency colors with 0.84 emissivity reflect solar heat, lowering cooling demand in sunnier months.
