What our customers are saying:

★★★★★
Review: February 19, 2020

It's been about 6 weeks since our new roof was completed, and we are thrilled with the result. The whole process from start to finish was seamless and very efficient. As a salesperson myself, I was impressed with the 'no pressure' approach to selling us the roof and the information that was provided to us to make an informed decision on the type of roof for our home. We chose the black slate and it looks very smart and has transformed the look of our home considerably. Since the roof was installed, we have had the usual mixed bag of Washington weather - heavy rain, hail, strong winds, and frost. Our roof has been put to the test and passed with flying colors. Frank observed the installation process and was impressed with the seamless flashing, custom-made on site, and state of the art vent coverings. Our roof looks beautiful and stands out from the others in our neighborhood. We were particularly impressed with the workmanship of Victor and Mark Lomakin, the two men who installed the roof. They were punctual, fast, courteous, respectful, efficient and very professional. Our neighbors also commented on how well they worked. When the roof was complete, they cleared away all debris and even removed the unwanted satellite dish from our roof. It couldn't have gone better. We received all the financial documentation in a timely manner and all of the employees we have dealt with have been very knowledgeable and helpful. Our only criticism is that it would be nice to have an online payment facility for overpayments. Currently the only way to do that is to mail a payment to Canada but we don't have checks so we would have to purchase money orders and mail them as we intend to make over-payments along the way. We would happily recommend Interlock to anyone looking for a new roof. Kind regards Jennifer and Frank Herboldsheimer Ocean Shores, WA

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Ocean City

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Ocean City, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Ocean City.

Can a metal roof handle Ocean City's heavy snow and ice without leaking or sliding off?

Yes — Interlock panels are tested to handle substantial snow loads, and their four-way interlocking design prevents water infiltration even under the freeze-thaw cycles Ocean City experiences about 38 days per year. With roughly 60 cm of snow annually and regular temperature swings, ice dams are a real risk on asphalt, but metal's smooth, slick surface sheds melt quickly. Optional snow guards are available if you want to retain snow for insulation or prevent sliding onto walkways. The lightweight aluminum (about 96% lighter than slate or concrete tile) won't stress your framing under snow load the way traditional materials would.

Why don't aluminum metal roofs rust like steel roofs, and why does that matter in a coastal climate?

Aluminum contains no iron — the element that causes rust. Instead, it naturally forms a thin oxide layer that seals itself, even when scratched. In Ocean City's salt-air environment, this is crucial: steel roofs corrode from salt exposure, but aluminum remains chemically stable. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating applied to both sides — the extra bottom-side protection guards against salt spray and marine air. This dual-coat approach has proven reliable from coastal homes to Antarctica research stations, eliminating the rust-through failures that shorten steel roof lifespans in salt air.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Over 50 years, metal roofing typically costs less than the two or three asphalt replacements you'd need, even factoring in the higher upfront price. Asphalt fails in 15–20 years; each tear-off, disposal, and reinstall compounds labor and waste costs. Interlock's lifetime limited warranty covers the original owner and is one-time transferable to the next owner for 50 years from completion — meaning your home's next buyer inherits decades of protection. With Ocean City's 2305 mm annual rainfall and corrosive salt air, asphalt degradation accelerates; aluminum's self-healing oxide layer and 30-year coating warranty mean you'll never reroof again. Current financing offers no interest until Spring 2027, making the first monthly payment manageable while you save on future replacement cycles.

Do hail storms in this region threaten a metal roof, and can I get insurance breaks?

Hail is a legitimate concern in Grays Harbor County, but Interlock panels earn UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating — the highest available — and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. The solid four-way interlocking aluminum system and rigid deck backing distribute impact force across a wide area, preventing the denting and granule loss that compromise asphalt. Many insurers offer premium discounts (typically 10–20%) for metal roofs rated Class 3 or 4, and some waive or reduce hail deductibles; contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation report to request a quote adjustment. Over a 50-year ownership, those annual savings add up.

What maintenance does a metal roof actually need, and how does it compare to asphalt or tile?

Interlock metal roofs require minimal maintenance — no granule loss to sweep away, no moss treatments, no periodic sealing. With Ocean City's approximately 2789 sunshine hours per year and regular rainfall, asphalt shingles degrade and discolor; metal resists both UV and moisture damage thanks to the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (30-year warranty against chalking and fading). Wood shake attracts rot and insects in the Pacific Northwest's damp climate; aluminum won't rot or split. Traditional tile cracks in freeze-thaw cycles like Ocean City's 38 annual freeze-thaw days. A simple annual gutter inspection and leaf removal — the same duty any roof demands — keeps your metal system performing. The CALGreen-verified reduced-maintenance benefit means fewer service calls and lower lifetime costs.

Is a metal roof safer in a wildfire or structure fire than other roofing types?

Yes — Interlock aluminum panels are non-combustible and available with Class A fire rating, the highest classification. In a fire scenario, aluminum will not ignite, spread flame, or release toxic smoke the way asphalt or wood shake do. Class A rating means the system meets IBC/IRC standards (verified under ICC-ES ESR-1790, reissued 2025) and qualifies for CALGreen compliance in California and similar fire-safety codes in Washington. If wildfire reaches your roof or an internal fire occurs, the metal system provides a critical firebreak. This non-combustible advantage also sometimes qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts in fire-prone areas — check with your agent. In Ocean City's maritime climate, lightning risk is lower than in inland regions, but the inherent fire safety of aluminum is an uncompromised benefit.

Can my home's existing roof structure handle a metal roof, or will I need expensive reinforcement?

Most homes need no structural reinforcement — aluminum's extraordinary lightness is a major advantage. The Slate profile installs at about 0.41 lb/sq ft, the Shake at 0.58, and the Mediterranean Tile (which replicates heavy clay) at only 0.59 lb/sq ft — roughly 96% lighter than the real tile it mimics. This means you can often install directly over your existing asphalt without stripping it, saving time and landfill waste. Your framing was built to carry asphalt (15–17 lb/sq ft) or heavier, so aluminum is a net reduction in load. A qualified installer like Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. will assess your specific structure, but the lightweight design eliminates the costly beam reinforcements that slate, concrete tile, or standing-seam steel might require, keeping your project on budget.

How long does a metal roof installation take, and can you install over my existing roof?

Installation typically takes 5–10 days depending on roof size and complexity, much faster than asphalt replacement because there's no time-consuming tear-off. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels lock together quickly, and a solid deck underlayment is installed beneath for leak protection and insulation. Yes, you can install over an existing asphalt roof in most cases — the new system sits on top, saving demolition labor and avoiding a landfill trip for your old shingles. With Ocean City's roughly 2305 mm annual rainfall, a fast installation minimizes weather exposure. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997 and knows local building codes, permit timing, and seasonal weather windows; they'll coordinate the timeline to avoid the rainiest months and minimize disruption. Current financing offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, letting you schedule installation when it suits your home.

Will a metal roof hold up to Ocean City's coastal winds and gusts?

Absolutely — Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Ocean City's typical daily winds average about 15 km/h with gusts reaching roughly 106 km/h, well within the system's capacity. The four-way interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. This mechanical interlock is far more resilient than asphalt, which lifts and tears in strong gusts, or standing-seam systems that depend on seam strength. In coastal salt-air environments, wind-driven rain is a challenge — the interlocking overlap sheds water sideways and down, preventing uplift-driven infiltration. The warranty covers this wind resistance, giving you peace of mind during the storms that characterize Pacific Northwest winters.

Is metal roofing actually better for the environment than tearing off and replacing asphalt?

Yes — Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable and ends the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle. Every time an asphalt roof reaches end-of-life (typically 15–20 years in Ocean City's damp, salt-air climate), the entire system is stripped, hauled away, and buried. Over your home's lifetime, that's multiple roofs destined for landfill. Aluminum, by contrast, is infinitely recyclable without losing properties; at end-of-life, it re-enters the aluminum supply chain. Interlock panels have been manufactured in Delta, BC since 1998, reducing shipping distances for PNW homeowners. The lightweight design (0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft) means lower transport emissions than concrete or clay tile alternatives. Installing over your existing roof avoids immediate waste. For homeowners who value reducing their environmental footprint, metal roofing delivers both durability and genuine sustainability — no greenwashing.
