What our customers are saying:

★★★★★
Review: February 19, 2020

It's been about 6 weeks since our new roof was completed, and we are thrilled with the result. The whole process from start to finish was seamless and very efficient. As a salesperson myself, I was impressed with the 'no pressure' approach to selling us the roof and the information that was provided to us to make an informed decision on the type of roof for our home. We chose the black slate and it looks very smart and has transformed the look of our home considerably. Since the roof was installed, we have had the usual mixed bag of Washington weather - heavy rain, hail, strong winds, and frost. Our roof has been put to the test and passed with flying colors. Frank observed the installation process and was impressed with the seamless flashing, custom-made on site, and state of the art vent coverings. Our roof looks beautiful and stands out from the others in our neighborhood. We were particularly impressed with the workmanship of Victor and Mark Lomakin, the two men who installed the roof. They were punctual, fast, courteous, respectful, efficient and very professional. Our neighbors also commented on how well they worked. When the roof was complete, they cleared away all debris and even removed the unwanted satellite dish from our roof. It couldn't have gone better. We received all the financial documentation in a timely manner and all of the employees we have dealt with have been very knowledgeable and helpful. Our only criticism is that it would be nice to have an online payment facility for overpayments. Currently the only way to do that is to mail a payment to Canada but we don't have checks so we would have to purchase money orders and mail them as we intend to make over-payments along the way. We would happily recommend Interlock to anyone looking for a new roof. Kind regards Jennifer and Frank Herboldsheimer Ocean Shores, WA

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Pacific Beach

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Pacific Beach, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Pacific Beach.

How does a metal roof handle Pacific Beach's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Metal roofs shed snow better than asphalt because aluminum's smooth, interlocking surface prevents ice dams—the real culprit behind winter leaks. Pacific Beach receives about 60 cm of snow annually plus roughly 38 freeze-thaw days, so water trapped under ice becomes your enemy. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels and lightweight design (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) mean no structural damage from snow load, and the aluminum won't crack, curl, or split as freeze-thaw cycles age asphalt. You'll want snow guards if you have a steep slope, but the roof itself stays protected by its oxide layer.

Why doesn't aluminum rust, and why does that matter in a wet Pacific Northwest climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—only iron oxidizes into rust. Instead, aluminum develops a microscopic oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, which is why Interlock panels are coated with Alunar fluorocarbon finish on BOTH sides (extra insurance in salt air and constant moisture). Pacific Beach averages 2305 mm of rain yearly, so water exposure is relentless. Steel roofing requires ongoing maintenance to prevent rust; aluminum just gets better with weathering. That self-healing oxide layer plus the 30-year coating warranty mean you're not fighting corrosion—the material is engineered to ignore it.

Will a metal roof hold up in Grays Harbor's wind and coastal gusts?

Yes. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification, and Pacific Beach's typical wind gusts reach about 106 km/h (roughly 66 mph). The four-way interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors so they move as one unit rather than peeling away individually—the engineering that lets installation crews work offshore and in Antarctic research stations. Because aluminum weighs just 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile, wind force doesn't create the upward pressure that heavier asphalt or tile shingles experience. Even in your highest gust days, the roof stays fastened and functional.

Can a metal roof survive hail, and will homeowners insurance notice?

Interlock holds a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That's overkill for typical Grays Harbor weather, but it means you're protected if a rare hail event crosses the county. Aluminum's non-combustible, impact-resistant properties appeal to insurers because they reduce claim frequency. Some carriers offer premium discounts for metal roofs; contact yours before installation to ask what discount applies. The lightweight design (Shake at 0.58 lb/sq ft) also reduces structural strain, which insurers view favorably when calculating risk.

What roof styles does Interlock offer, and which suits Pacific Beach homes?

Interlock manufactures five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. Each is aluminum with the same non-corrosive properties and four-way interlock. Slate and Cedar Shingle suit traditional Pacific Northwest homes; Shake works for rustic or craftsman aesthetics; Standing Seam appeals to modern or industrial design; Tile complements Craftsman or coastal-influenced architecture. All profiles perform identically in Pacific Beach's 2305 mm annual rain and 106 km/h gusts—the aesthetic difference is purely visual. The profile you choose depends on your home's character, not on weather performance. Pick the look you love; the material handles the climate.

Is aluminum roofing light enough to install over my existing asphalt roof?

Yes, in most cases. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs over existing roofs without structural reinforcement. The Slate and Shingle profiles are even lighter at 0.41–0.58 lb/sq ft. Most Pacific Beach homes built in the last 50 years can support this added weight without upgrades. A professional installer (like Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., serving the region since 1997) will assess your framing and tell you if reinforcement is needed; it rarely is. Installing over asphalt also saves the cost and landfill burden of a full tear-off.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need compared to asphalt or wood?

Interlock requires virtually none. Asphalt shingles need inspections every 3–5 years, repairs as granules shed, and eventual replacement. Wood shakes split and rot in Pacific Beach's 38 annual freeze-thaw cycles and 60 cm of snow. Concrete or clay tiles crack and need resealing. Aluminum won't rot, split, crack, curl, or lose impact resistance—the Guardian Warranty covers all of those failures for the original owner's lifetime. Rain and wind naturally clean the Alunar coating, which is warranted for 30 years against chalking and fading. Your maintenance plan is: clear leaves from the gutters, inspect flashing annually, and enjoy the roof.

What does Interlock's lifetime warranty actually cover, and how long does it last for the next owner?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—meaning no deductible, no reduction over time—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion. That two-tier approach recognizes that aluminum's durability outlasts most mortgages; you're buying the roof that will be there when you sell. Combined with the 30-year coating warranty (ASTM D4214 / D2244 testing), you're protected across three decades of Pacific Beach's 2305 mm annual rainfall and 2789 sunshine hours. Few roofing products offer this depth of coverage.

Is a metal roof expensive upfront, and does it pay for itself?

Metal costs more than asphalt initially, but consider the full roof cycle: asphalt lasts 15–20 years in wet climates like Pacific Beach (2305 mm rain, 38 freeze-thaw days annually), requiring replacement twice in 40 years. Aluminum lasts the lifetime of your home—one installation. Asphalt means tear-off labor, landfill disposal, and re-roofing costs compounded over decades. Metal means a single installation, no maintenance budget, and transferable 50-year warranty for the next owner (boosting resale). Plus, current promotion: zero payments and zero interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. The math tilts toward metal when you count total cost of ownership and factored resale value.

Is aluminum roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt?

Yes. Aluminum is roughly 95% recyclable; when it eventually reaches end-of-life (likely 50+ years from now), it has scrap value and infinite reuse potential. Asphalt shingles are torn off every 15–20 years in Pacific Beach's damp climate and sent to landfill—a cycle repeated twice in 40 years. One Interlock installation replaces two asphalt roofs, eliminating two tear-offs and two landfill deposits. The material is manufactured in Delta, BC and installed on everything from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station, proving durability reduces environmental cost over time. CALGreen verifies the reduced-maintenance benefit. Choosing metal is choosing the roof you install once, not twice.
