Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Qui-nai-elt Village, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
It's been about 6 weeks since our new roof was completed, and we are thrilled with the result. The whole process from start to finish was seamless and very efficient. As a salesperson myself, I was impressed with the 'no pressure' approach to selling us the roof and the information that was provided to us to make an informed decision on the type of roof for our home. We chose the black slate and it looks very smart and has transformed the look of our home considerably. Since the roof was installed, we have had the usual mixed bag of Washington weather - heavy rain, hail, strong winds, and frost. Our roof has been put to the test and passed with flying colors. Frank observed the installation process and was impressed with the seamless flashing, custom-made on site, and state of the art vent coverings. Our roof looks beautiful and stands out from the others in our neighborhood. We were particularly impressed with the workmanship of Victor and Mark Lomakin, the two men who installed the roof. They were punctual, fast, courteous, respectful, efficient and very professional. Our neighbors also commented on how well they worked. When the roof was complete, they cleared away all debris and even removed the unwanted satellite dish from our roof. It couldn't have gone better. We received all the financial documentation in a timely manner and all of the employees we have dealt with have been very knowledgeable and helpful. Our only criticism is that it would be nice to have an online payment facility for overpayments. Currently the only way to do that is to mail a payment to Canada but we don't have checks so we would have to purchase money orders and mail them as we intend to make over-payments along the way. We would happily recommend Interlock to anyone looking for a new roof. Kind regards Jennifer and Frank Herboldsheimer Ocean Shores, WA

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Qui-nai-elt Village
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Qui-nai-elt Village, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Qui-nai-elt Village.
How does metal roofing handle heavy snow in Qui-nai-elt Village?
Interlock aluminum panels shed snow reliably because their smooth, interlocking design prevents the ice dams that trap moisture under asphalt shingles during your region's 42 annual freeze-thaw cycles. At roughly 120 cm of snow per year and gusts reaching 117 km/h, the four-way interlocking system stays secure, and the lightweight profile (Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement is needed—your home handles the load that slate would never survive without costly framing upgrades. Snow guards are available if you prefer gradual melt.
Why does aluminum roofing outlast asphalt in freeze-thaw weather?
Aluminum's oxide layer doesn't crack, split, or curl when exposed to your 42 annual freeze-thaw cycles; it self-heals if scratched. Asphalt becomes brittle in cold and soft in thaw, fragmenting into granules that clog gutters and expose felt underneath. With 2,771 mm of annual rainfall and constant temperature swings, asphalt typically fails within 15–20 years here, while Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy and 30-year Alunar coating warranty keep the roof performing. The Guardian warranty covers cracking and curling—conditions that plague traditional materials.
Does an interlocking metal roof really stop leaks in our rainy climate?
The four-way interlocking panels create a secondary water barrier that standard shingles cannot match; heavy rain runs off instantly rather than pooling under seams. At 2,771 mm of annual rainfall, your roof endures one of the wettest climates in the region, and the interlocking design prevents water from wicking sideways into the substructure. Panels overlap both directions, so water flows down the profile before it has a chance to penetrate the seam. Combined with proper underlayment and flashing, this system is virtually immune to the persistent damp that rots asphalt and wood shake underneath.
Can a metal roof stand up to Qui-nai-elt gusts?
Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h), and your area's typical gusts reach about 117 km/h—you're covered with margin to spare. The four-way interlocking system means each panel locks to its four neighbors, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms this design meets IBC/IRC code for high-wind zones. Once installed per spec, the roof won't lift, flutter, or fail in the seasonal storms that regularly test coastal Washington homes.
Does a metal roof reduce hail damage claims and insurance costs?
Interlock aluminum achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Your homeowner's policy may qualify for a discount because metal roofs are demonstrably harder to damage than asphalt, and some insurers lower premiums 10–20% for verified Class 4 products. Ask your agent to review the UL listing before you buy; many will honor a discount on the spot once they confirm the rating. Over a 50-year roof life, those savings add up.
Will my house need expensive structural work to support a metal roof?
No. Interlock's Shake profile weighs only 0.58 lb/sq ft and the Tile profile about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so light that it installs directly over most existing roofs without reinforcement. Contrast that to slate or clay tile, which often demands upgraded framing because the weight exceeds what older joists can safely bear. In older Qui-nai-elt homes, replacing a roof usually means a complete tear-off and structural inspection before traditional tile goes on; with Interlock aluminum, you skip that cost and install in one season.
Why is aluminum roofing better than steel in a coastal, rainy climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; instead, a self-healing oxide layer forms the moment it's exposed to air and seals any scratches on its own. Steel rusts aggressively in the salt air and high moisture (2,771 mm rain annually) found near the Pacific, requiring expensive coatings and constant vigilance. Interlock coats both sides of its aluminum panels with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading—a redundancy that steel cannot achieve. Over 50 years, aluminum's corrosion immunity saves you from the rust spots and structural decay that compromise steel in damp climates.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?
Virtually none beyond what you'd do for any roof: clear debris, ensure gutters flow, and inspect flashing annually. Unlike asphalt, which sheds granules every rainstorm (clogging gutters and weakening itself), or wood shake, which rots, splits, and needs professional treatment every few years, Interlock aluminum simply sits there. The CALGreen-verified design eliminates the algae growth and mold that plague traditional shingles in humid, 2,728-sunshine-hour climates like yours. No sealing, no patching, no granule cleanup—just a 30-year coating warranty and decades of service.
Is metal roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt?
Yes. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable; when your roof eventually needs replacement (generations from now), the panels go back into the aluminum supply chain. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, are torn off and sent to landfill—typically 10 tons per home per tear-off, and asphalt roofs fail every 15–20 years in Qui-nai-elt's wet climate, multiplying landfill impact over a century. Metal roofs last three to five times longer, eliminating the tear-off cycle entirely. If environmental impact matters to you, aluminum ends the waste stream that asphalt perpetuates.
What does the lifetime warranty actually cover, and is it transferable?
The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. When you sell, the next owner gets 50 years of coverage from completion, making your roof an asset that increases buyer confidence. Most warranties are prorated (full coverage only year one, then declining), so this non-prorated guarantee is unusual. Combined with the 30-year Alunar coating warranty against fading and the UL 2218 Class 4 hail rating, you're buying a roof that outlives most mortgages.
