Review: February 3, 2016

Dear Interlock Industries, We knew that someday we would need a new roof. We had been considering various roofing materials as we have a concern about a plaguing issue of a moss growth problem as a result of fir needle build up. We had to go on the our roof at least one to two times and sometimes more often a month to blow off the roof as the needles would collect everywhere and build up in the roof valleys; plus the additional time necessary to remove the moss. We spent way too much time on the roof. We happened to see the Interlock aluminum roof system and after speaking with staff and our friends and doing some research, we made the decision to have your roof system installed this past fall. We want to let you know that we are happy with the product as well as the style we selected. We had the deep charcoal grey " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate profile installed on our traditional style home. It looks great! Many of the neighbors have commented on how nice it looks. They first thought it would be too commercial looking, but once they saw the end product they were impressed. All the staff from Robin at the Clark County Fair exhibitors’ booth, Mike Rasmussen, Divisional Sales Manager, as well the roof installers were very professional and good in explaining the product, what was involved in the installation, as well as being responsive and open to addressing our questions, comments and concerns. Once the product was ready to be delivered the installation date was confirmed. The installers arrived early on that date and started in on the job. They were diligent on the installation. They did clean up at the end of each day. They were open and encouraged questions and any comments we had. If there was something we noticed that was not quite right they would check and correct. They were as concerned as we were about a quality job done right. The roof does well as the valleys do not collect needles anymore. The only concern/complaint is that the needles do get caught in the interlock sections particularly when it is raining and windy making it difficult to remove them. We have had a lot of rain since the roof was installed so we have not had a chance to really remove the needles. Hopefully once the roof and needles dry out; it will be easier to remove them. But it does appear that we will not have to go on the roof nearly as much as in the past.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Hall

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Hall, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Hall.

Does metal roofing handle heavy snow? What about ice dams in Hall winters?

Metal roofing sheds snow and ice better than asphalt because of its hard, smooth surface and four-way interlocking panel design that prevents water from pooling. Hall gets about 163 cm of snow annually and around 22 freeze-thaw days per year—exactly the conditions that create ice dams on traditional roofs. The lightweight aluminum (Shake profile at just 0.58 lb/sq ft) means no structural concern even with full snow load. Snow guards are available if you want to control how snow slides off. The interlocking seams stay watertight through freeze-thaw cycles because the panels move slightly with temperature changes rather than cracking like asphalt.

Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel metal roofing does?

Aluminum fundamentally cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes when exposed to moisture. Instead, aluminum develops a thin, protective oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, so minor dings and weathering don't create entry points for corrosion. Our panels are 3105-H24 or 3003-H24 roofing-grade aluminum with a two-sided Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, adding 30 years of warranty protection against chalking and fading. Steel roofing requires paint maintenance and eventually fails at scratches. Hall's annual 2163 mm rainfall means constant moisture exposure—aluminum stays intact where steel would need refinishing every 10-15 years. This is why panels installed at Antarctic research stations and coastal salt-air homes outlast painted steel by decades.

How does a metal roof handle Hall's heavy rainfall without leaking?

The four-way interlocking panel design creates overlapping seams that force water downward and outward, never allowing it to sit or penetrate sideways. Hall receives about 2163 mm of rain annually—well above the U.S. average—so the roof must work hard. Each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides; water reaching a seam simply sheds down the profile without entering. Proper installation over solid decking with an underlayment creates the same watertight result as asphalt, but without the asphalt's vulnerability to UV breakdown or the gaps that appear as shingles curl. The interlocking system means no exposed fasteners for rain to chase around, and no raised nails that become leak points. Installation to ESR-1790 spec ensures this performance for the warranty period.

Will a metal roof blow off in Hall's winter windstorms?

The four-way interlocking panels are engineered to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec, and Hall's typical wind gusts reach about 115 km/h—right at the edge of that envelope. The locking design prevents individual panels from lifting; each panel hooks into its neighbors on all sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than concentrating it at fasteners. This is why panels survive the kind of gusts that tear asphalt shingles off in strips. The warranty explicitly covers wind resistance to 120 mph, meaning you have documented assurance rather than guesswork. Fasteners are driven into the deck and fully covered by the interlocking seams, so wind cannot exploit exposed screw heads. Installation by Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., serving the region since 1997, includes proper fastening patterns that maximize this advantage.

Can hail damage a metal roof, and could this lower my insurance?

Interlock metal roofing is rated UL 2218 Class 4—the highest impact rating available—and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Denting can occur, but perforation (holes that leak) is what matters, and the warranty protects you there. Class 4 rating means the roof has passed impact tests at speeds and energies far beyond typical hail events. Some insurers recognize this durability and offer premium discounts on metal roofs; contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 certification to ask. Unlike asphalt, which deteriorates into cracks and bald spots after hail, aluminum's oxide layer shrugs off impact and continues performing. Your roof won't need replacement after one bad storm. In Hall's climate, this translates to genuine peace of mind and potential long-term savings on premiums.

Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed because aluminum is extraordinarily light. The Mediterranean Tile profile, which visually replicates heavy clay or concrete tile, installs at only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than the real material it resembles. This lightweight design means you can install Interlock over most existing roofs without adding load to framing. Compare that to slate or clay tile (often 15+ lb/sq ft), which requires expensive structural upgrades on older homes. Interlock installs directly over your existing shingles or deck, saving the cost and time of full tear-off and disposal. For Hall homeowners with older homes or those wanting a tile or shake aesthetic without the structural burden, this is game-changing. The aluminum panels meet ICC-ES ESR-1790 building code requirements, so inspectors have no concerns about structural adequacy.

Is a metal roof more expensive than asphalt, and will it save money over time?

Metal costs more upfront but becomes the last roof you buy. Asphalt shingles typically last 15-20 years in Hall's climate of 163 cm snow, 22 freeze-thaw days, and 2163 mm rain—all stressors that accelerate breakdown. Over 50 years, you'll replace asphalt 2-3 times, tear-off, haul to landfill, and pay labor repeatedly. Interlock's Guardian Warranty covers the original owner for life and transfers 50 years to the next owner, so you're not replacing it. The two-sided Alunar 70% PVDF finish is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, meaning no recoating. Aluminum is ~95% recyclable and ends the asphalt cycle entirely. Current financing offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation. When you calculate total cost of ownership across decades, metal wins decisively—one roof, no landfill, full warranty.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Metal requires almost none. Unlike asphalt shingles, which curl, crack, and lose granules from Hall's 22 annual freeze-thaw cycles, aluminum doesn't degrade from thermal cycling. Unlike wood shakes, which rot, split, and invite insects in wet climates like Hall's (2163 mm rainfall), aluminum is non-combustible and CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. You don't need to recoat, reseal, or replace flashing. The two-sided Alunar 70% PVDF finish keeps its color for 30 years with no action on your part. Occasional gutter cleaning is standard for any roof. That's it. Compare that to wood roofing needing regular treatment, asphalt needing moss removal and patching, or clay tile needing regrouting. The simplicity is both practical and economical—no contractor calls, no surprise repairs, no hidden costs. This is partly why metal roofing appeals to busy homeowners and smart investors.

Can I get a metal roof that actually looks like slate, shake, or tile?

Yes. Interlock offers five profile options: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, and Standing Seam. Each is a full aluminum panel that replicates the visual texture and shadow line of the traditional material—Slate mimics natural stone, Cedar Shingle and Shake replicate wood profiles, Mediterranean Tile captures the dimensional look of clay. All are manufactured from the same durable 3105-H24 or 3003-H24 aluminum with two-sided Alunar 70% PVDF coating. The profiles mount identically and deliver identical performance (Class A fire rating, 120 mph wind warranty, UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating). Choose based on the architectural character you want; the durability and maintenance-free life are constant across all designs. Hall homeowners often choose Slate or Cedar Shingle for traditional homes, Tile for Mediterranean or Spanish styles, and Standing Seam for contemporary designs. All colors are available in energy-efficiency-certified options if solar reflectance is a priority.

Does a metal roof improve home value or curb appeal in Hall?

Yes, because the roof is now visible and permanent rather than temporary. A new metal roof immediately signals to buyers that a major system is solved—no inspection surprises, no near-term replacement costs. The five profile options let you match your home's style (Slate and Shake for traditional, Tile for Mediterranean, Standing Seam for modern), so the roof enhances rather than clashes with curb appeal. The Guardian Warranty is transferable: the next owner gets 50 years of coverage from completion, which is a tangible, warranty-backed assurance of durability. Buyers researching homes in Hall—where heavy snow, freeze-thaw cycles, and 2163 mm annual rainfall are standard conditions—recognize that a metal roof was a smart investment, not a luxury. Unlike asphalt, which is invisible and expected, a quality metal roof tells the story that someone cared about the home's longevity. Real estate agents in moisture-heavy climates routinely report that metal roofs accelerate sales and support higher asking prices because they eliminate one of the biggest buying concerns: roof condition.
