Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Quinault, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
Prompt service and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
My wife and I wanted a long-term roof and I think we found it. The product seems very good and are installer Daniel was terrific and a trooper put a lot of hours and a lot of time and made it look real nice when it was completed. I would recommend the company if you're looking for a metal roof.
Ivan Excellent will make it right!!
We needed a roof repair when our neighbors tree dropped a large limb through our roof. Ivan came And accessed The damage, Ordered the sheets we needed. He came back and did the whole Repair himself. So happy to have it fixed along with his recommendations to have the roof cleaned. We appreciate his skills in repairing The roof.
The Interlock associate Ivan, came did an awesome service in correcting the part needed to be corrected, he left us with instructions of what we needed to check and to get in touch with, if needed 😀 Ms. May the associate answering the phone was helpful for us to get prompt service. They are dependable. We received roof service.
The work was efficient and well done. The service, the people and team were great. Beautiful roof.
I highly appreciate the professionalism, workmanship and the quality of materials used. I don't doubt that it will be our forever roof and will not need to worry about replacement during the life of our house. Ross, Tony, Roma were all great throughout the new roof installation process.
We noticed water spots on the ceiling. Ivan came, found a hole likely caused by a branch in the recent wind storm. He repaired the hole on the spot. Thank you Ivan!
Ivan replaced our exhaust vent on the roof that had some leaking issue. We were impressed with his professionalism, courtesy and fixing the problem to our utmost satisfaction. We certainly would recommend him and the company for any roofing issues being it a new roof or repairs.
We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.
Excellent contact and coordination with field representatives and installers/project manager.
We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Quinault
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Quinault, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Quinault.
Does a metal roof handle Quinault's heavy snow and ice buildup?
Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice far better than asphalt shingles, which trap moisture and freeze. With about 120 cm of snow per year and 42 freeze-thaw days, your roof faces real risk of ice dams and wood rot under traditional shingles. Aluminum's smooth, slippery surface naturally encourages runoff, and the panels' interlocking design prevents wind-driven snow from creeping under seams. Snow guards are available if you want to manage slide patterns. This chemistry—coastal maritime climate plus freeze cycles plus your annual snowfall—makes aluminum's rapid-release properties valuable for long-term roof health.
Will freeze-thaw cycling crack or damage aluminum roofing in my climate?
No. Aluminum expands and contracts slightly with temperature swings, but unlike asphalt (which hardens and becomes brittle) or wood shake (which splits and curls), aluminum's alloy structure simply flexes and returns to shape. Quinault experiences about 42 freeze-thaw days annually, so your roof cycles regularly; that's exactly when traditional materials fail. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum used in Interlock panels (ASTM B209) is engineered for this stress. Its oxide layer self-heals when scratched, so micro-damage doesn't propagate into cracks. Over 27 years of service in coastal and alpine climates, this material has proven itself where freeze-thaw is harshest.
How does a metal roof perform in Quinault's 2,771 mm of annual rain?
Interlock's design handles heavy, sustained rainfall without leaks. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels overlap in a way that water always flows downslope and outward; rain cannot pool or migrate under seams the way it does with asphalt shingles. Your area receives nearly 2,771 mm of rain yearly, making a tight panel system essential. Installation over solid decking with underlayment (standard for Interlock) creates multiple barriers—if water somehow bypassed the panels, it's still stopped underneath. The ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790) confirms performance under North American rainfall codes. Many Quinault homes sit in valleys where winter rains persist; a sealed, interlocking design eliminates the slow-leak problem that plagues asphalt over time.
Why is aluminum roofing better than steel for coastal Washington?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Steel roofing, by contrast, relies on paint or coatings to prevent rust—when those coatings chip (from hail, foot traffic, or coastal salt spray), rust develops and spreads underneath. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish applied to both sides, specifically for salt-air homes. That dual-sided coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214/D2244). Quinault's marine environment means salt-laden wind and high humidity; aluminum's self-healing oxide layer actually strengthens in these conditions, while steel corrodes silently. After 27 years manufacturing in Delta, BC—150 km from the Pacific—Interlock has proven this material in exactly your climate zone.
Can Interlock metal roofing withstand Quinault's wind gusts?
Yes—the panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec. Quinault's typical gusts peak around 117 km/h, with occasional extreme events; your roof sits well within the warranty envelope. The four-way interlocking design is what makes this work: each panel grips its neighbors on all four sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof system rather than stressing individual fasteners. A single powerful gust cannot lift or separate a properly installed panel. Unlike asphalt shingles (which can blow off in 80 mph winds), or standing seam metal (which relies on fastener tension), Interlock's mechanical interlock is passive—it holds tighter the harder the wind pushes. In Grays Harbor County's windy climate, that's genuine peace of mind.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock panels are extraordinarily light—the Slate installs at roughly 0.41 lb/sq ft, the Mediterranean Tile at about 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most existing roof framing can support this weight without modification. That lightness is a direct advantage in Quinault, where heavy snow (120 cm annually) plus sustained rainfall (2,771 mm/year) already stress your structure. By choosing metal instead of upgrading to slate or tile—or even adding extra asphalt layers—you actually reduce long-term structural strain. The ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790) confirms installation over most existing roofs without reinforcement, which also means lower labor costs and faster installation.
What is the warranty on Interlock metal roofing, and how long will it actually last?
The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited (non-prorated) for the original owner and covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's also one-time transferable to the next owner for 50 years from completion, which is huge for resale value. Interlock has manufactured aluminum roofing since 1998—over 27 years of real-world data from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations. That track record, combined with aluminum's inability to rust and the panel design, suggests a 50+ year lifespan as normal. Quinault's climate (42 freeze-thaw days, 120 cm snow, 2,771 mm rain) is exactly the kind of cycling that wears roofs down; the fact that Interlock has survived harsher climates for three decades tells you what to expect here.
Does my insurance cover hail damage to a metal roof, or can I get a discount?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 rating often qualifies for homeowner insurance discounts because insurers know hail claims on metal roofs are rare and repair costs are minimal compared to asphalt or tile. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 documentation; many carriers reduce premiums for Class 4 roofs. In Quinault, hail is less frequent than in the plains states, but when it occurs, aluminum's dent-resistance and impact rating protect your investment. Unlike asphalt (which punctures and leaks after hail) or clay tile (which shatters), Interlock's aluminum surface absorbs impact without compromising the roof system. That resilience often translates to lower insurance costs over time.
Is metal roofing more expensive than asphalt, and will it pay for itself?
Yes, the upfront cost is higher, but Interlock is genuinely the last roof you'll buy. Asphalt shingles cost less initially but fail every 15–20 years; in Quinault's harsh climate (freeze-thaw cycles, heavy rain, snow, coastal salt if you're near the Sound), asphalt often lasts only 12–15 years. That's three replacements over 50 years—three tear-offs, three landfill contributions, three full projects. Interlock's 50+ year lifespan, minimal maintenance, lifetime warranty, and energy savings (energy-efficient colors with 0.84 emissivity reduce cooling costs) add up to lower total cost of ownership. Plus, transferable warranty and curb appeal boost resale value. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation. That financing window makes the transition affordable while Quinault's 2,728 sunshine hours and marine climate are working for you.
How long does it take to install a metal roof, and can it go over my existing roof?
Installation typically takes a few days for a standard home, depending on roof size and complexity. Interlock panels install over most existing roofs (asphalt, wood, even low-slope tile) without removal or structural work—a huge time and cost advantage. Your installer (Interlock Metal Roofing PNW Inc., serving the region since 1997) will inspect for structural soundness and ventilation, add underlayment if needed, and begin fastening panels. No tear-off means no debris, no labor hauling waste, no weather delays waiting for roof framing to dry. The process is clean and fast. In Quinault's rainy climate (2,771 mm annually), avoiding a weeks-long roof exposure is valuable—you stay protected throughout installation. The ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790) confirms this installation method meets code. Most homeowners are back to normal within a week, with zero roof leaks and a roof rated for the next 50 years.
